Good to know I'm not the only one who loves cleaning. 😄
I'm 60 and grew up with 8 siblings. We all had a specific chore to do and started at an early age. So I've been cleaning for 50 plus years! I have 5 children, (adults now). And used to clean houses for a living. I never liked chemicals. I've been cleaning, mold removing and disinfecting with vinegar, bleach (I know it's a chemical), lemons, oranges and isopropyl alcohol for years. Saves a lot of money on commercial cleaning products.

Since granite countertops have a sealant on them; to keep them shiny and stain-resistant, you want to avoid using anything too acidic or basic on the granite. Frequent use of vinegar, Windex or bleach will dull the granite and weaken the sealant and finally removes the sealant. Instead, use a little soap and water to clean your granite or use a granite cleaner made specifically for granite. This recommendation, on how to care for your granite, comes from a granite website.
The faucet clean idea is spot on!

I've used vinegar to clean for years. I do that with my kitchen and bathroom sinks as well Jo H. Also after the paper towels are soaked and wrapped if in a few hours they dry up or before going to bed. I pour more vinegar on or use a spray bottle to apply more making sure it's good and soaked.
One other thing I do with vinegar soaked paper towels is tuck them up under the toilet bowl rim (that hard to reach area)? Thankfully we have 2 bathrooms so I can leave them on for hours, overnight, or do 2 treatments in a row depending how early I get started. The vinegar dissolves all that crud and I use a wire brush to finish the job. Flush, flush... 😉

That Dawn degreaser is amazeballs. I use white vinegar all the time. It's a great water softener for the laundry; I put white vinegar in the rinse cycle when I wash towels to help get the soap out and make them more fluffy. I also use it to clean my microwave; I put a MW-safe bowl of white vinegar inside, zap it to get it hot and steamy, let it sit in there for a while, then wipe everything down. Works great; I follow up with warm soapy water if the surface still feels tacky.

You can use vinegar in a bag on your shower head too. I have a hand shower in my bathroom. It needs a descaling, so I use paper toweling soaked in white vinegar and paste it all over the faucet, etc. Leave it overnight and clean off the next morning. Worked very well for me.
Another tip ... to clean your inside drains ... pour bicarbonate of soda (baking soda where you are) down the drain followed by white vinegar. Allow to bubble and then pour an entire kettle of boiled water down the drain - opens up nicely. I do this in my laundry, kitchen, shower and bathroom.

I’ve been using vinegar to clean, descale and rinse laundry in for years. There is regular 5% vinegar, and 6% cleaning vinegar. Be aware, both are highly acidic and not good for granite. Over time it will dull your granite and weaken the sealant. Be careful leaving the vinegar bag on your faucets as well. The vinegar will eat thru the clear coat on your faucets and cause discoloration. You need to use it in moderation in your coffee maker, dishwasher and washing machine as well, as it can damage rubber seals and hoses and cause leaks.

    • @switt3203
      @switt3203 2 года назад +3

@@Guinnivere Depending on the size of your family you may need to do it every 4 months but it’s just the two of us so we do it about ever six months. My husband said for every 1 pound box of baking soda you use one gallon of white vinegar, but when you do the last box of BS use an extra gallon of vinegar to help flush the BS down. So for the shower drain he does 4 boxes of BS/5 gallons of vinegar and for the bathroom sink he does 2/3. You need to put one box of BS then one gallon of vinegar and repeat until you use all that is needed. Then let it set for about 30 min and then pour slowly a large soup pot of boiling water down the drain, then let the hot water from the faucet run for about 5 min for the final flush. Just a side note if you have a hair clog vinegar does not dissolve hair so you would need a snake then you could do the vinegar/BS mix. You can also use generic products to help cut costs. I hope this makes sense.

Hi Renee. I do use white vinegar on my pull down faucets (and other places), but I have a little trick for you that's easier than the baggie. Pour about a 1/4 cup into a small bowl or mug that your faucet head will fit in. Then pull your faucet head down, clip it at the origin with a strong clip to keep it from popping back up, and let it sit in the cup of vinegar for the desired length of time. If your faucet head won't come down all the way just sit the cup on something a little higher in your sink. So much easier than the baggie, imo. Love all your videos! Happy New Year!

I’m off to Menards on New Years Day in a snow storm to get the Dawn degreaser. I love to clean and have looked for a powerful degreaser for a while. I’m hooked on dawn power wash for my stove. I’m hoping to use the degreaser above my stove on my wood cabinets then follow up with wood polish. I’ve tried using Murphys wood soap and water in a spray bottle with lemon essential oils but it needs something stronger. I knew about the vinegar in a bag for my shower head but it never occurred to me to use on my faucets. Genius!

Hi Renee, I love to clean. It's soothing to me. I've been using dawn too since the oil spills used them on the birds. I've used Vinager for tea / coffee pots and for hard water mineral deposits in Texas we have hard water.
Another great tip...did you know when cutting onions & garlic that if you run your hands and fingers over the stainless steel faucet it immediately takes the smell completely off your skin! It's unbelievable. When it became a real thing they started making stainless steel shape soap to keep in kitchen. Sold at the speciality Kitchen stores. That was 12 years ago. I never see them anymore but if you don't have one you will wonder how you ever existed without one. But your kitchen faucet if stainless steel it will work perfectly. Happy New Years Eve today and Happy New Year.

Vinegar is a great cleaner for the toilet tank, been using it for months now and it has been the best for the hard water stain and smell in the tank with hardly any scrubbing. At the beginning i had to do it daily overnight until i saw the result i wanted, then, its simple maintenance of 1 cup/once or twice a week. I will look out for that degreaser here in NY. Thanks so much for this video. Great day to you.

I didn't know vinegar could clean away the scale and lime like that. I guess my our mom's and grandmother's knew all along what the best cleaners were. Cheap, effective & safe! How do you beat that?
I recently discovered the cleaning power of baking soda this holiday season. I have a double oven and the tray that separates the top from the bottom oven is constantly covered in a grease residue that won't come clean. And my glass oven door windows are always caked in a gunk that just won't come off. Baking soda does the trick!
Baking soda and vinegar also helped save one of my favorite cast iron enameled pots this holiday. I burnt a toffee batch and had a horrible burn mark on the bottom of my pot that just wouldn't budge. So I put some baking soda and vinegar with a bit of water and let it simmer on the stove for a bit. Took a few rounds of doing that but it came clean! I saved my pan.
I'm not as excited about cleaning as you are though. Doesn't get me going quite as much.
    Happy New Year!

I've been using vinegar as a cleaner for years! I will mention that I'm quite a bit older than you so I've had more years to figure it out! (I'm 72)- . You can put your filters in a trash bag with the degreaser and some water and let them sit (outside) for a while, also. Not much scrubbing at all when you take them out. I rinse off with the garden hose.
I have a Reader's Digest - Our Best Advice - (little 47 pg book from 2005,) 188 Ingenious Uses for Vinegar. You wouldn't believe the tips it has in it!
I also soak my fruits and veggies in vinegar water when I bring them home from the grocery, cleans and keeps them fresher.
one more Dawn tip.....I keep a small bottle in my laundry cabinet, for extra greasy stains. I also have a small bottle in my travel kit.
Thanks for the video! (run a vinegar soaked rag along the pull-out-hose that is in your faucet, too!)

I use white vinegar or lemon juice 🍋 (smells nicer) with bicarbonate of soda. You will see instant reaction between the the acid and bicarbonate, it cleans hard limescale quicker than the natural acid alone. I also use a purpose built bag called a 'Limey', saves using so much plastic on each clean. If you try it, you can use the bicarbonate from baking cupboard to see if you like the result, then purchase in bulk (I bought 5kg tub and decant to smaller tub for cleaning cupboard)......whoaaaaa, I'm getting old, if I'm using social to talk cleaning 😄🤣.....loved Maxxie & Pollux playing on your bed 💛💛

Vinegar is acid so that will desolve the lime stone build up. Be careful if you have marble counters because vinegar will desolve that as well. I leave my fausets soaking in vinegar over night and then no scrubbing is neaded :) Maybe the filters in your hood need cleaning or get exchanged? That might be why you get grease on top of your hood . The manual for our hood says to detach the stainless steel filters and wash them in our dishwasher every 3-4 months so that's what we do. Thanks for your inspirational videos and good luck!

Vinegar works to keep your toilet bowls spotless too. 👍😊👏 Yikes! That’s not good with holes in your bedspread. 😳🙁 My dog Rusty digs too…but not enough to do any damage. Thanks for sharing this video with us. 👍🇨🇦😊

The Dawn degreaser does a great job. I use Fantastik…& it does the same job. 👍😊👏

@@juliemackenzie1978 Fantastic doesn't work for me on the kitchen hood. I've tried many times and it just won't cut the grease.

@@WelcomeToMyCurls I think stainless steel appliances might react differently to the grease factor. I have white appliances (mainly because my kitchen is small, walls are white too…anything to give the illusion it is bigger. 😜👍)..it may make a difference in the coating the white appliances have on it. Easier to get the grease off of them. I have never had an issue with getting the grease off.

I love Dawn Degreaser and have used Dawn for for years. I will now do what you are doing. Thanks for this video.

Yes!!! Been using vinegar for years....sorry. You could also use baking soda instead of the Dawn for the scrubbing part....works great!!! As for the hood fan vents I just put them in the dishwasher every 4 months or so. You could spray them with the degreaser then put them in the dishwasher....so you don't have to deal with "flecks" flying in your face as you scrub them. I don't spray them and they come out perfect just from the dishwasher.

What I do is put car wax on my range hood and the side of my fridge that is right next to the stove and the dust and grime will not stick to it. No more scrubbing! Also works well for ceiling fan blades!

Yes! When I was a kid (I’m 65 now!), they made a product called Jubilee which was billed as “appliance wax”. It made things just slide right off when wiped down with a damp cloth. And finishes were all white and were prone to yellowing way back then - the Jubilee stopped that. And it smelled heavenly! They changed the formula and it didn’t work as well and appliances were made in pretty colors and with much improved finishes so it fell out of favor. I think you can still buy it, but unless they changed back to the old formula, probably not worth it. Except for the smell…😉
