    Where do we start with this one.?
    Four 4x4. Not a shovel in site?
    No one thought to lower tire pressures?
    No one thought to position the recovery vehicles a little higher up the beach?
    A dozen people standing around, by the time someone asked them for a push it was too late.
    I would bet 1 Ozzy with 1 70 series, 1 shovel and 4 beers would have got this out.

    This is why most Australians carry maxtrax. Also, any *REAL* offroader would have a winch. Only way to get that guy out who was first stuck would be with a slow, steady pull from a winch, with a snatch block, and all 3 of those trucks hooked together with their brakes on as anchors for the winching vehicle. This was straight amateur hour!

    Two things that are good to know when you want to play on the beach with your vehicles whether they are 4 by 4 or 2 wheel drive. Used 12 pounds of air pressure for your tires all the way around so being prepared to air up your tires after your day on the beach will be a great benefit. Spraying your distributor and electronics on your motor with water repellent will also keep your motor from falling out and stalling.

    • @traviseastlick5342
      @traviseastlick5342 6 лет назад

      But if everybody knew how to play on the beach, we wouldn't have these great videos like this so keep it rolling. LOL

  • @everettdurst1
    @everettdurst1 7 лет назад +57

    They should have been aired down, but the real problem was they didn't understand the basic fact most 10 year olds learn on the beach. If you're holding still when the wave goes by, you sink. If you move when the wave goes by, you don't. Those idiots appeared to actually stop every time the waves came up, as if it would be best to wait for the water to go away, then get back to it. And the guy with the first stalled rig ran his starting motor for 10 minutes straight. IF he did that in granny low, with the clutch out, every time a wave hit, he'd have been out. You can drive with the starting motor in a manual.

    • @cameronspires4127

    I witnessed something similar to this some 40 years ago on a small, sandy peninsula near Ensenada, Mexico. As kids, my brother and I were fishing from a dock on the mainland side of a small, narrow bay that looked toward the peninsula. We saw a new pickup drive along the peninsula's sand beach at low tide and a bunch of guys got out and went hiking or drinking in the sand dunes. Anyway, they left the truck unattended. My brother and I eventually noticed that the tide was slowly coming in and the waves were inching up higher as time passed. Still no owner of the truck in sight. Finally, the waves started hitting the tires and wheels, and continued to slowly rise. Finally, the owner and his buddies came running at full bore to the truck and the guy started it up. The problem is, the sand was so wet, his tires were spinning. His buddies did all they could over several minutes to free the truck by pushing, but it was no use. The guy kept trying until the water was so high, there was no way that truck was coming out. Worsening the situation is that he parked the truck on the peninsula beach near the mouth of the small inlet, where larger waves were breaking. We watched as the water started hitting the hood and fenders. The truck remained mired in sand throughout the rest of our family's three-day visit; I don't know when it was removed.

      park one truck up the hill hook up to the stuck truck. now put the truck in reverse and let the truck dig itself a hole and litterally become stuck . put the stuck truck in gear and let the starter turn the engine while the other truck uses the winch to pull it. never try to pull straight in line. all 4 tires will have to come unstuck at the same time. pull on an angle so the tires will come unstuck one at a time. now u can pull out the truck on the hill when ever you want because its not going to drown.

      LAVAROCK100 You don't need a dozer. all you have to do its air down your tires, to widen the amount to tire on top of the sand, but when you have low profile tires, like the ass hat in the black truck, you can't air down shit, because there's nothing to air down. It looked like they were all running fully aired tires.

    rather than kill the battery by trying in vain to start a truck, sometimes a better idea is put it in 1st gear low, foot off the clutch and see if the starter motor will budge the wheels, in conjunction with getting a pull, preferably. Toyota's usually have a clutch override button otherwise you might have to gently ride the brake, or otherwise be creative depending on the truck obviously you need a manual transmission for this method. I once ran out of gas in an Isuzu Trooper manual w/ four wheel drive on a test drive about 2000 feet away from a gas station and limped it to the gas station on the starter motor in first low

    I commercial fished for four years living on a beach. People don't realize what happens to sand when it is already loose then the surf gets to it. Quick sand! Same thing happens in glacial river beds, the adhesion the sand particles have to each other is broken when water (or air, check out security airyated sand trap, pretty cool) is introduced, is gone. Ever stand on the beach as the surf hits you, you instantly sink. If the sand was well packed from heavy surf you had some fudge factor, but only some. We watched an entire truck get swallowed on one high tide, just the cab roof was sticking out a few inches afterward. You learn to stay away from the surf when driving. And the suction the sand has once you begin sinking, better have four other rigs high and dry all with winches or a piece of equipment that's 4x4. We always had a large backhoe and a 4x4 medium dump truck on our fish site. The backhoe had a padeye welded on and a heavy hook line just for pulling other vehicles to safety. In the event it couldn't get enough traction in the sand, we would set the outrigers and use the hydraulics on the boom to add extra pull. Saved our butts more times than I can count. Trucks+beach+surf=SUCKS........

    I think a winch from up on higher dryer ground would have been a safer bet. The other trucks could have been used as anchors for the winching truck. Sorry for the loss bro dude.

    If two people pushed a 50 lb force on the top of each tire i would guess from the diameter of the tire that would be equivalent to about 150 ft/lb of torque x 4 = 600 ft lb torque equivalent. Wonder if they could just have hand rolled it out.

    Several points of interest, bloke stuck had his brakes on even when they were trying to tow him,.. no-one had told him to take his foot off the brake. Secondly Toyota make a marinised model, used by James Bond and Maxwell Smart etc, it's was developed for the Japanese Navy and referred as the Anchor submariner model, very successful models, see pictures "Truk Lagoon"

      you dont sound very intelligent, you do know that those trucks are buried in what is almost concrete, rock hard sand once the water has washed over the wheels. Have you ever even driven on sand or even on wet beach sand like this?
      Once you get bogged down its exceptionally difficult to get out, especially since every wave will keep on re-burying your wheels and tires. Nothin to do with the trucks here, this is all about mistakes and learning the hard way

      Usually, yes. Same for my Fords, Mopar, and Dauntless powered Willys. But when you _do_ have to stand on the starter, most "American" brand starters give out pretty quickly (ford, chevy, mopar...) .
      Heh. My 67 F100's last starter holds the record for amp draw at the local Autozone. It would start once on any given day, then roll the motor over about 3 times before the battery was completely drained. I hauled it in for testing, and the damn thing was drawing 340 amps. Definitely a failed unit.

Driving a jeep doesn't make u any smarter or more immune to getting stuck. This could have easily been avoided had experience come into the picture.
