I just got my R9 out of ATF purgatory a month ago and I'm loving it. Its flexibility is exactly what drew me to it, I use it freely on both my AR15 and AR9.
In most instances when I sell a suppressor the combination/formula I follow pretty often is a AB Warthog (7.62) and a YHM R9. It just covers so many bases/platforms as no one really wants to be switching suppressors back and forth if they don't have to. If you simply understand that suppressed doesn't mean no hearing protection you will love all of your suppressors.
Wow! I was considering purchasing the Huxwrx in 7.62 for my 308 and another can to run on my 5.56 AR's, but if I can purchase just one can and cover both calibers, I would be thrilled without having to spend two thousand bucks on two separate cans.
I’ve run hundreds and hundreds of rounds through an MP5k, full auto, and it’s still working fine. Not a single baffle strike, and sounds great. Most recently I’ve been running it on my 8.6blk (subsonic, 12” bbl) and it’s easily hearing safe. Great can for the price. Very versatile.
YHM has been making good suppressors for decades. It was one of the brands i looked at when I was getting my first cans. But i didn't have any local dealers with them then. AAC was my other choice. I wish there had been the multi use ones available then.... it would have saved me quite some $$$$.
4:25 - wouldn't you say the reason you didn't get last round slidelock isn't because of the recoil spring interacting with the silencer.....but because you ejected the mag before the last round? 🤨
Not raining on your parade but no no its not that quiet, I hate it when people say you just hear the bolt smh, ya if your bolt is making a 125+ dB sound then ya, I don't disagree it's much more quiet but it's still loud loud enough to do permanent hearing damage

Which would be a really nice video for some of those big youtubers to do one day. That said, you earned a subscription with this video! Thanks man!
Cheers. Next time I have a shoot house scheduled somewhere I’ll try and get a suppressor review in the mix. We usually run those with muzzle breaks tho 😂
Got the YHM r9 for over a year and it’s awesome for versatility and price to performance ratio. The problem is finding free time and enough ammo to go plinking on a consistent basis !
Those are nice! Way better than my Banish 45 can. Mine was completely unusable right out of the box since it didn't come with the piston that was ordered with it. It's been on back order for 10 months now with Silencer Central.
Thanks for the video. I was born with mild hearing loss and now have severe/profound loss even though I have always worn hearing protection. Some friendly advice, wear hearing protection. It will probably take time for you to notice the damage, but it will happen.
Nice, thanks for this video. My R9 is awaiting approval but it definitely seems like a great value. I grabbed their 5/8-24 mount so I can use it on my .243 hunting rifle and my Marlin 336. I found a barrel with 5/8-24 threads for my 9mm PCC so hopefully I should be able to easily swap between platforms. I'm gonna stick with direct thread for now. Agree with your comments on ear protection - I'm overly protective of my hearing these days and I double up on ear pro even when shooting at outdoor ranges. I have tinnitus most likely caused by playing drums without ear protection (we didn't know better in the 90s when I started) and I want to preserve what's left of my hearing!
Well you’ve got me sold, I think this will be a great first suppressor that I can try on a variety of my collection without having to spend thousands. 🤞🏼
Bare in mind you’ll need to get the various mounts and attachments! It will only come with a 1/2x28 direct thread. Going to do a video on this topic soon.
@@gatcattill - That makes sense. Thanks. Yea, I spent a good long while learning how to setup a trust and documenting all my firearms. Then, my local gun shop tells me the wait time for trusts is far more than individual filings 😒 lol. I think i'm going to pass on the YHM R9 anyway because it lacks a flash suppressor tip. I'll be submitting paperwork tomorrow for a .22 suppressor (Asteroid Precision RimFire). Any suggestions on what I should buy for a 9mm pistol and a 5.56 rifle?
@@__-pl3jg if flash suppression is your main purpose, stay away from titanium cans as they give you a decent amount of spark. Rugged obsidian 9mm is a great option for 9 but won’t do 556, if you want to be more universal rugged offers their Alaskan which is a great offer but higher cost. While I’ll agree that it’s a great option, it’s still more expensive than the r9 ;) although the r9 had a price increase a couple months back it seems. . . About the warranty stuff though, YHM warranty is still excellent. They just won’t honor another vendors mistake. That’s important to understand. And Rex? They are trying to sell their company so if successful where does this leave all their customers?
To be fair, they've had that "for sale" listing for as long as I've known about the company, since around 2018. Most people take it to be a pie-in-the-sky price, not a serious listing. I'm sure that if someone came along and offered the owners of YHM more cash than the company was worth they'd be willing to take the early retirement and bounce too.
@@benjaminpurcell1438 no doubts on that - but the fact they are listing it has been a "discomfort" to some folks on purchasing from them, much like the YHM third party warranty stuff has been a discomfort for others.

YHM got a bad wrap with folks two separate times. It's the cut off point where yhm is comfortable warranting the product. As you go down Im barrel length you end up with a lot more unburnt powder for.tbe suppressor to handle. As a result manufactures will set a hard limit on what is and is not acceptable in terms of pressure and heat generation. At 7.5 you'll probably be fine especially with subsonic ammo but supers I wouldn't recommend as if it fails it's on you (subs too but very slim chance)
Gawd, I miss the piney forests of the SE. Caint tell where you are, but looks like GA, SC or NC? Great review on the cans. The content sounds... relatively quiet.
If you have a lot of firearms and you already invested in a different brand of muzzle devices like griffin or q or whatever being able to change the base to use that QD system is a very nice thing.
If you can swing it - Alaskan 360 from rugged would give you a full package deal with no barrel restrictions and an unconditional lifetime warranty. It’ll cover you from 556 shorty up to 338 lapua and you can use it on 9mm with a booster.
@@mattb7406 30 cal means no 9mm. 9 is 36mm. Plus you’ll still need to check 556 restrictions on it! Since you’re wanting to do a 10.5” AR going with a dedicated can just for it later on is warranted.
Facepalm 🤦♂️. At 4:27 you didn't get slide lock because you had already ejected the magazine. Has nothing to do with your suppressor in that instance.
For some things you don’t need ear pro: 9mm subsonic, 22lr, 300 Blk subsonic, many bolt guns single fire only. When you’re not doing heavy fire rates others are ok for single impulse exposure. I do it so I can give genuine feedback about the shot report and keep my number of shots limited.

Have you anyone else had any experience with both the R9 and the Odin works enduro? I love the fact that the enduro has a titanium body and you can customize the baffle length but i don't want to spend 200 more (cause i need a DT mount in 5/8x24 for my 350 legend which ups the cost of the R9) if the benefits are minimal at best. Also brand longevity. I don't want to buy a suppressor from a company who may not be here in ten years. I don't have that worry about YHM.
No experience with Odin works enduro - but yes YHM meets your needs it does sound like and a dt 5/8x24 will only add about 45 bucks to the cost if you shop around or 65 if you get the YHM branded
Doesn’t show compatibility for 300wm. For bolt guns my go to and favorite cans have been the AB Raptor series with reflex. Get the longest and biggest reflex you can for your setup and you’ll smile every shot. Full review on this coming soon.
im new to suppressors. say im looking at a yhm suppressor but have a pinned a weld surefire muzzle brake. can i buy an adapter? where abouts can i get info like that?
You can! But it’s expensive. B&T just released their universal hub for surefire but it’s around $500! You can have a fabrication shop turn a surefire warden into a hub that works, but that will cost you a good bit as well (200-300 for the warden and another 250 for the fabrication work). It’s a hard sell
This is the boat im in right now. Trying to figure out what to do with this pin and welded sf muzzle brake. Im sure a bunch of us would appreciate a quick as to what our options are and if you have any examples to show. Thabks brother for the response. Im leaning towards b&t. @gatcattill
@@Hiddencomment007 yep you can just get a surefire compatible bt can for cheaper but alternatively you can find a muzzle device that is equal length and get a smith to replace the pin and welded for a different device pin and welded that is better compatibility with your desired can. Db ranges that are effective for the needs for gun shots are expensive :( usually why I do it without ear pro for testing to at least give better indication. This is at a private range secluded in over 200 acres
GREAT VIDEO OF THE YHM R9 IN USE, NICE ARSENAL, MY FAVORITE WAS THE AR15 223 WITH THE CARRY HANDLE, ONLY THING IS, I LIKE THE SOUND OF FIRING ANY OF MY GUNS WITHOUT ANY SOUND SUPPRESSED. 💥
I think that folks blew that out of proportion to be fair to YHM. They did a cya since they were seeing bad mounts destroying cans and that’s not their fault. As long as you send the mount in and they rule it out as the culprit your warranty is still going to be OK. It’s only voided if the mount was deemed the reason.
100% they worked with me when I was preparing to film this and were supposed to make me a custom fit for my mark23 and vir ii, Howver they stopped communicating, ran off with customers money and just proved to be a quick money grab and dash. Avoid
This video was filmed with my old mic setup (still a great setup) but not normalized to show reduction. Notice the lack of ear pro for most shots. The r9 preforms admirably for what it is on all calibers covered. 556 was the main pain though when it comes to loudness.

@@MilesLong556x69 perhaps but can always make more money but can you always buy a t3?! T4 will be out if you wait 😂
I'm new to suppressors. What is the purpose of the Griffin adapter if the R9 can just screw on the barrel? Thanks
If you have a lot of firearms and you already invested in a different brand of muzzle devices like griffin or q or whatever being able to change the base to use that QD system is a very nice thing.
looking to get First CAN for future 308 and 300sub and 9mm pistol, but my 556 are 11.5" what universal do you recommend for that scenerio?
If you can swing it - Alaskan 360 from rugged would give you a full package deal with no barrel restrictions and an unconditional lifetime warranty. It’ll cover you from 556 shorty up to 338 lapua and you can use it on 9mm with a booster.
@@gatcattill thank you!! i should have mentioned 'budget', sorry. Looks like the 'YHM RESONATOR K -30 CAL' hard to beat
I just got mine out of jail two weeks ago. Solely for my sub gun.
Best on sub guns. Just use subsonic ammo
I'm looking out buying this for my strip bog as well, already installed the short barrel on it
Great review! I feel like this would work great on my 20" Marlin 30-30
Could! Wasn’t able to try that caliber. May do a short review of the obsidian 45 soon on 45-70
@@gatcattill I have the silencerco hybrid 46 on my new Marlin 45/70 😍. I'll be looking forward to that review!
Would this work on a keymo nox device?
Serious question, why are you not wearing ears? You can still damage your ears even with suppression or am I wrong?
For some things you don’t need ear pro: 9mm subsonic, 22lr, 300 Blk subsonic, many bolt guns single fire only. When you’re not doing heavy fire rates others are ok for single impulse exposure. I do it so I can give genuine feedback about the shot report and keep my number of shots limited.

For someone putting together a "home defense" 300BLK & wanting to go with a shorter barrel what would be your can recommendation if dedicated to simply that firearm itself? Thank you! Great video 👍
If you haven’t started your build yet, and 9” is short. Enough, get the new integral from YHM that has a pin and welded resonator 30 on it. This way you can sbr without actually sbr-ing.
@@gatcattill I simply have one more lower here to "use" up & then plan to be done as I have 4 AR's from 8-18" which with everything else here in the safes is enough. I will check that out👍 Thank you!
A 12 gauge, pump shotgun!
@@chrissewell1608 Nope........looking to add a can & be somewhat quiet to not blow anyone's ears out.
Checkout the Omega 9k that's what I have on my 300blk small and light, rated for supers and hearing safe with subs
Sounds real good. I like it.
Great can
Is this can rated for 300 win mag? If not, what would you recommend? I also have a 300 blkout pistol with a 10.5" barrel.
YHM has some long by muzzle devices for their Kurtz system
So can u shoot .22lr through this can?
You can but wouldn’t recommend since the can is not user serviceable. Few rounds won’t hurt
Dude great video! It would have been killer if you had a db meter! Question... looks like a park... where are you shooting?!?! 👍
Db ranges that are effective for the needs for gun shots are expensive :( usually why I do it without ear pro for testing to at least give better indication. This is at a private range secluded in over 200 acres
Great video. I'll subscribe.
Appreciate you sticking around!
I have the r9 an I shoot all day no problems from my 556 or 300blk
Yep it’s a tank!
My destination is the R9 is like the Wolfman in short configuration am I about right on point or no
Wolf man is better sounding in the slightest way, but not worth the additional coin and length.
@@gatcattillplus you can't shoot 308 out of the wolfman.
GREAT VIDEO OF THE YHM R9 IN USE,
NICE ARSENAL, MY FAVORITE WAS THE AR15 223 WITH THE CARRY HANDLE, ONLY THING IS, I LIKE THE SOUND OF FIRING ANY OF MY GUNS WITHOUT ANY SOUND SUPPRESSED. 💥
Your caps lock is on
@@Tony_Seed I KNOW. 💥💥💥
@@ernestgarcia755 how do you hear your guns report without damaging your hearing??
Awesome video on the R9, keep it up and do some more suppressor vids.
What would happen if you put it on a 7" 300BLK barrell?
Probably nothing but they won’t warranty it if it does.
did you have dB ratings w and wo?
I do not - dB ratings are very hard to capture accurately
Why does no one reviewing suppressors not use decibel meters?
They are extremely expensive for ones that can read gun impulse
@@gatcattill Ok, thanks
How would it be on 6mm creedmore? Point of impact shift?
Probably similar to 308 which is fine for hunting. Poi is always a thing when shooting suppressed, just have to deal with it and leave the can on
What's a suppressor? I looked at my form 4s and didn't see it anywhere
Mr semantics
You are correct. It's called a silencer.
I think that can did real good
It’s a solid performer. Not the best out there, but it’s beat by small margins for a lot higher cost or size
very informative and couldn't agree more.
Appreciate the feedback!
Wonder how this would do on a Ruger SFAR?
Pretty OK. Wouldn’t run it for a range day without ears but hunting yeah no big deal.
Riding Matt always, or only this video? Just curious...
Yhm? They don’t like me.
Except for the sbr 300 blackout… that sounded like an actual suppressed gun.
300 subsonic is always going to preform well
can u use phantom QD mount to t3 too.....
Can use all kinds of
@@gatcattill alright ,,,thanlk you.....
How long was your wait brother?
110 days on this can.
But right now average wait times are wild. Seeing 20-30 days and 250 and 400
could you run this on a .22lr as well?
Can but you are not able to clean it easy so I would use it minimally
What holster are you using?
Hush holster 10/10 do not recommend. Company has gone awol
Could i use that can on my 9mm 1911 and my mk18
9mm will need a booster assembly for the pistol.
Not rated for mk18 - 16” min for 556
the truth in this video the explication is super clearly
Thanks! I think
What state do you live in . I want to own those
Texas is the land of the free
As long as you don’t need to warranty it your probably good
I think that folks blew that out of proportion to be fair to YHM. They did a cya since they were seeing bad mounts destroying cans and that’s not their fault. As long as you send the mount in and they rule it out as the culprit your warranty is still going to be OK. It’s only voided if the mount was deemed the reason.
Why not just use a decibel meter and post the results when you shot vs subjecting yourself to the sound ???
To get one that works for gun fire readings is incredibly expensive
Will it work okay on .22lr also?
Yeah, but since it’s not user serviceable you’ll want to keep its 22 use to a minimum.
@@gatcattill I see. Thanks!
Just watching this guy makes me nervous about other shooters

@@gatcattill his jittery, involuntary body movement
Everyone still needs to be wearing ear pro with a suppressor/ silincer.
Not with 22lr. Not with 300 subs. Not with 9mm subsonic. . . Not for single rounds while hunting suppressed.
You didn’t get last round hold back in the beginning because you ejected the magazine before firing the last round.
Correct lol
Great suppressors
💯 love my r9
Good video hardcore
Can you run 350 Legend threw it
Yep with a 16" barrel restriction.
Would this handle 300 win mag
Yes. I believe it has a 20” or 24” min barrel restriction though.
Can it shoot 45 acp
No. They do have a 45 option tho.
Can you help Illinois?
I’m just a man :(
hope its not like the Rex?
Good info
Cheers
Bro on the Walther you didn't get last round hold open because you removed the mag and fired a round...lmao might wanna check the feed silly goose
lol it happens. Get scatter brain when filming long videos like this 😂
Hush holsters is a huge pain to deal with, lousy customer service and communication. Love my R9 though, great little can.
100% they worked with me when I was preparing to film this and were supposed to make me a custom fit for my mark23 and vir ii, Howver they stopped communicating, ran off with customers money and just proved to be a quick money grab and dash. Avoid
@@gatcattill I called them and emailed them numerous times about holsters and they never replied.
you dropped the mag and still had 1 round in the chamber.. that's why it didn't last round stop your slide.. no mag to catch on.
Yep. Your mind gets confused when you’ve been filming all day in the Texas heat
You won’t get last round hold open without a mag inserted
Yep brain fart from the heat
Aug piston IS ADJUSTABLE! did you know?
Yep… and I have the appropriate suppressor plug
You don't have enough stuff strapped to you.
On it.
Every shot sounded loud… Like shooting a 22lr… Hopefully thats just a echo from the camera, but that didn’t sound great for all suppressors involved…
This video was filmed with my old mic setup (still a great setup) but not normalized to show reduction. Notice the lack of ear pro for most shots. The r9 preforms admirably for what it is on all calibers covered. 556 was the main pain though when it comes to loudness.
Im going to see if itll run with a .45acp. If so, Im in.
Definitely won’t. Hole too skill. But they do make a 45 variant. However won’t preform as well on smaller calibers.
