I don't know why everyone keeps comparing Perplexity to ChatGPT. Perplexity is a Google killer, not a ChatGPT killer. As a chatbot, Perplexity sucks, but that's not its purpose. Its purpose is to make searching the internet vastly more simple, and bypass the hallucination factor by providing links to the sources that it pulled the data from, so that you can verify yourself whether the response was accurate.

GPT 4 version of Perplexity Ai is bad?

Hi Corbin, Another great review! Perplexity has both custom instructions and AI Prompts under Collections (similar to custom GPTs). Pros: (compared to ChatGPT) better user interface (both web version and mobile app), 5 AI models (including GPT4, Claude2, and Gemini Pro), multiple points of focus (including writing-only, Wolfram Alpha, RUclips, and Reddit), it's accurate, has a realtime internet connection and sites the sources. Cons: Some of the functionality is only available on the web version for now, like uploading files, other than images, voice (read out loud), the custom AI Prompts are only up to 1500 characters, no actions (API), and there is no store yet. I'm paying for both right now, but if Perplexity were to add the missing functionally, then to me, it'd be the clear winner (it's already replaced Google search entirely, because the search results don't have any ads). I know this was your first video on the matter, so can you also do a more in-depth one soon? Thanks in advance!

I’ve found Perplexity to be great with: research with cited sources, the copilot/follow-up question feature, speed, and the ability to switch AI engines. IMO - it’s not a replacement for ChatGPT. I received a PRO membership because of being first 100k to preorder Rabbit device. I believe Perplexity will be running the device. Corbin - great videos. Thanks

❤in collections there is custom instructions which is called ai prompt if you checkout in it.
which is great but i agree its a subjective/objective choice for people working in this kinda departments for them else always chatgpt is the winner

I was about to mention it also: collections, while not being as flexible as custom GPTs, have similar functionality. I've built following use case: when I post a link or a copy of a tweet into my collection, it analyzes the input and creates a summary with elements and tone I have defined within the AI prompt instructions of the collection.
The advantages are: it can browse the web and it provides me with original sources. Also, I like the follow-up questions and the fact, that if you copy the content, it gives you back a well formated text incl. source list. Try to paste it into Notion or Word.

I've just copied and pasted my a bit complicated prompt (half JSON, half regular text), asking for many things including writing to me in Middle Dutch or New Early German. On GPT-3.5 or GPT-4 it works like a charm, giving me each time amazing answers, what makes learning languages an unbelievable experience. The response from Perplexity starts with: "I understand your request." but the following with short explanation why it can not be done at all.

I noticed more and more the RUclips AI people are talking this up. I want to love it... I've tried it and it just seems to get confused more often than not. Follow-up questions are virtually useless because it seems to forget any kind of context from the first question or questions. I don't know. Am I missing something? Does the emperor have no clothes?

Interesting, I will test it out and see if I come to the same conclusion. Understanding the previous context of the chat is very important for these kinds of models.

The problem I have with your presentation is that you focused too much on image generation and poo-pooing the Discovery and recommended features. They may. be annoying, but if you just ignore them, Perplexity is very powerful. You didn't delve into the focus feature much or what it offers, nor did you compare this Perplexity to ChatGPT4 when it comes to using the same prompts and comparing output. Also, Perplexity offers the choice of breakingdown down your topic into areas. For image creation, I use Midjourney anyways, so I'm not concerned about the image generation feature.

Perplexity is a replacement for Google search and Bing....

I don't think you have research Perplexity for this video very well at all, it is very powerful, you could also probably use it for coding via the Focus - Writing option. The Collections is also very powerful, almost like custom GPT's, where you could really hone in on a "System Prompt" and get it to do exact formats etc.

gpt works better for many things, but using them together is epic. but i cant justify paying for both. So i pay for chatgpt, and just using the base model for perplexity to use as a search engine works nicely. if i need more depth in a topic i go to gpt

Just to echo what some of the others have said. Custom instructions are in collections - and in the profile. TBH "collections" confuses me. Is it a way of grouping chats - or a type of custom GPT? I am not sure if the collections customer instructions combine or replace the profile prompt. Discovery strikes me as an odd add-on too. However, the main functionality of Perplexity as a search tool is great - it is my go-to.

Hi Corbin. I like your videos but an AI language model is so much more than a coding aid. I use it to help tutor stem sciences. It can be a companion to help us broaden our world. It's so much fun. An interesting question would be something like, "Can you explain how it may be the entropy gained from the sun even more than the energy that has driven the evolution of life on Earth." Ask these about anything you want to learn. It a great first start for diving into things we want to grok.

So where will the answers come from for this app when the source sites fail from lack of ad dollars. No one is going to pay to advertise on a site where 80% of the hits are by bots. Also how many people are going to actually check the accuracy of the information, especially if the answer sits well with them?
