      Hi Chris, I agree, Eduard really improves with each release, and this one is no exception!

    I just built this kit and i used the old crow markings as well. Here is what I've discovered about eduard decals, I use a pencil eraser to loosen them a little and the just peel off with my finger nail. This only works on the large decals though and they still tend tear sometimes. I have also discovered that treating the decals as a y other decals and gloss coat underneath then use decal solution then a flat top coat they work just fine. You really don't need to peel the carrier film off if you don't want to.

  • @craigcampbell242
    @craigcampbell242 Год назад

    I love Eduard's new decals. The best method I have found for peeling the carrier film is to apply them with plenty of micro set and sol as you would any normal decal. Let them dry at least 24 hours, then use a piece of masking tape, perhaps slightly de-tacked and place it over one edge and then lift to get the film started. Once it starts to come up use tweezers to finish the job. I have done this on several kits now and have had no issues with lifting the decal and it even works on small stencils. The decals then look painted on and it greatly improves the look of the finished build

    Brett with a P51 kit, who would have seen that coming! 😄
    I built the standard release P51D and enjoyed every second of it, I even got on with the new decals! The way i got them to work for me was nice warm water to release from carrier paper, sit them down on a healthy puddle of Micro Set and then cotton bud the excess out as normal. Then a very generous dose of Micro Sol and a gentle dab and role with a damp cotton bud. Then leave alone until it has smothed itself out and another dose of Micro Sol, leave for 24 hours min. This seemed to really hunker/melt the decal into the gloss varnish (GX100). After that I used a cocktail stick to lift up one corner of the carrier film and tweezers to pull it back over the decal as flat to the surface as possible. This worked for me on all the decals big to tiny.
    I think the secret is to get the decal to slightly melt in to the gloss/paint layer.
    Drop me a msg/vid chat if you fancy some more detail bud 🤙

    Sorry to say, I'm not the biggest Eduard fan. Yes, I know they are highly detailed but I also think they tend to be over-engineered, too many parts, too detailed and a little over priced as well. I respect them but I prefer Tamiya and Hasegawa, who found a happy medium of detail and simplicity.

    • @HammerheadModelMaking
      @HammerheadModelMaking  Год назад +1

      No need to be sorry, to each their own! I don't think you're wrong though, Eduard can tend to over-engineer sometimes. Although, I do find their prices reasonable, I would say comparable to modern Tamiya.
