Thanks for the excellent analysis. Sounds like the SX is as noisy as the Gen 4 CX. I have a Gen 3 CX and it is quiet compared to my buddy's Gen 4. Who wants to ride accompanied by 'angry bees'?
Having test ridden an SX motor myself, I hated the high cadence to unlock the power, as you said it feels unnatural. I’ve heard that changing to a smaller chain ring can fix this. Theres also less low end grunt. I’m now considering the Ep801 RS v2 with the option to unlock full fat power. Or just go full fat on an SL build.
Hello, great video , So do you recommend this bike from someone that has never owned an e-bike, to transition from a trail bike to this? 😅. I am 52 and having some issues with my hip would this motor have enough power to help me on the climb?
I see the Trek exe was tested at 70 rpm. The slowest cadence in the test. The TQ also needs to spin to get more power. Id like to see a retest at 90 rpm.
Good question. Since I start/stop at the same spots on the trail, I believe that's a GPS error. GPS polls every few seconds to determine where it is on the bike computer is on the map. So the exact point the GPS records the location can vary at the start stop. The good news is the stopwatch, which is the key measure is more exact and not affected by the GPS.
I'll definitely add this to our existing shootouts with the Nebo and Relay. The Rocky Mountain ebikes, I haven't used in a while. They seem really rare here in the West Coast. That huge, proprietary (but powerful) motor really locks them in to a niche.
Which e-bike that you’ve tested has the least motor drag after you exceed the 20 mph assist limit? I’m on a Bosch CX and it feels like a 200lb bike over the 19.88 mph limit. Thanks, love your reviews.
Thanks for doing the sound test Francis. Now I really think I wont go for the Mondraker Dune cause the Bosch sx motor clunks/rattles on the chunky descents
@@EMTBReview I’m talking to another guy on the Bosch group and he’s going to be testing the o-chain to see if the extra float on the chainring will help eliminate the clunk
Interesting, my husband and I both have the Bosch SX motor and we don’t hear any rattle. We’ve come from the Shimano 1st edition Ep8 RS and it definitely had a rattle.
How is the Ari Nebo Peak 1 minute faster on the climb with the same FAZUA as the Heckler Sl and the Relay. Did FAZUA change the power with a newer software version?
I believe they did. This is the very latest iteration of the Fazua and it feels stronger and measured stronger. I know that they've been updating firmware like crazy the last couple years fixing bugs and fine tuning.
I’m sticking with my big block, base model Levo. It kicks a$$ and only cost me $3500
10:52 That's an interesting gesture when you say you need an extender. 😲
Love your content, thanks for these tests! 👍
I have a dechatlon e expl 520 with a Yamaha 50nm motor ,i love that has power at low cadence.

Seems like the fast tire combination and lightweight build is what allowed the SX to pull ahead of the F60s.
Very interesting data, thank you.

High cadence requirement on a mountain bike to get good power output is a terrible idea.
The data you collect to compare bikes is impressive! When will you be testing the Giant Trance X Advanced E+ Elite?

Great point! I shall do that.
Great stuff. Why are all the total ascent values different if it’s the same test?

great stuff FC. wish you could do a shootout between this , the nebo and the relay.
have you also tested the RM power plays ?

Looking forward to see what the new Orbea Rise can do!
They were gonna send me one but there are some delays...
@@EMTBReview very curious to see difference with previous orbea
great review

The Shimano EP8 and the Levo SL seem to have the least drag past 20mph motor shut-off
Trek Fuel exe
@@EMTBReview Thank you!
Ep8 or 801?@@EMTBReview
@@EMTBReview How does Giant's Yamaha motor compare in drag to those 2?
I read about the latch problems, did this have the revised latch design?
Do you think it has been solved sufficiently?
make a test on steep singletrail- please.
Did I miss how much battery it used climbing the 500 foot test?
When are we seeing the giant full power light weight model?
It's only the Neuron:ONFly that has the SX motor.

Yeah, some folks said it was quieter than the big Bosch CX. But in my testing, sounds exactly the same.

@@jenniferC7317 which bikes do you have with the Bosch sx? It could resonate more on different frames. Yours carbon or aluminum?
@@K1ngJame5-mtb we have the Norco Fluid VLT C2. The front triangle is carbon, rear aluminum. You’re right that could make a difference.

How is Bosch rattle compared to new Shimano EP801?
similar according to the dude
As a higher cadence peddler... This is the motor that seems like it would suit me well... The polygon version is what I'm most interested in.
Good price but with that noise I’ll pass. We need a Fazua next gen, paired with an LFP battery…and on a Pivot
And, for thrice the price you can have it.
Ride 60s just starting to get good, won't be updates for a while i bet
You didnt talk much how it rides? To me thats more important than all the data.
If it comes with extender default, that would be awesome bike. In the meantime not interested
That would be a cool option. But i can see how not everyone will want ot pay $500 more.
high cadence, cardiovascular work, low cadence muscular work....
That high cadance isn't very comfortable
Way more attractive if it was way more quiet.
Agreed, if its so visible and loud it needs to bring a proposition like the new rise with big power.
Not a great bike. Having ridden a friend’s, I’m really unimpressed. Looks nice, but no thanks
Fair enough! The motor is a little strange. It doesn’t have a lot of torque. And there’s less of it on pedal cadence under rpm
