I love these brakes...But for the life of me I can't get them quiet

Great review !! Good and helpful info to settle the market and not cause the used EMTB market to be flooded!! We can expect some improvements from the current motor manufacturers, but it seems like they will not have to be in a hurry... that power level is a nice to have but not really needed . I'm still 100% Happy with my 2021 Trek Rail with the Bosch motor......80% of the time I'm in "Tour" mode realistically....and only really go into EMTB mode when I need the extra power......plus I like the extra weight and stability when descending....

I didn't watch the whole video, so forgive me if I missed something. Why not test Velocitax? It's definitely better (opinion) than any of these.

For me what is annoying is why the 800 wh batrey is made fatter so it disturbs the aesthetics of the down tube shape, agree with you the primitive display 😡

The high-end Bullit is lighter than the high end Vala - it is, look it up and both have the same wheel sizes. I understand your point about it being an EP 801, but its battery is removable and a bit bigger (and you could carry two). It does ‘look’ chunkier, agreed. So, I’m not convinced by your argument about the Bullit suggesting it’s proportionately an out of date truck (my words, not yours, but it’s what you meant 😉).

I own 2 DJI drones, the fit finish and quality is amazing. DJI with the resources they have will build even better motors in the near future. This is just their entry model.. they will dominate

My HSL has been great! Two other friends have bought them too. I can understand this bike is getting closet to the weight of the HSL and hopefully the motor sound is as quiet as the Fazua and TQ. If that is true, this bike will sell very well. Yes, the display is a disappointment.

I get you feel 85nm is a weakness of the Vala but isn't it worth mentioning this is an intentional design choice by Bosch eBike. Claus Fleischer, CEO of Bosch eBike is quoted as saying "We see the perfect balance of 85nm, 600w because it's the perfect balance of power, riding dynamics, and fun, and efficiency, range, and also wear and tear of your chain, cassette, and tires" about the updated Bosch Line CX. When I watched him say that, it seemed like a jab at DJI Avinox. Without mentioning this, your video comes off as if this were an SC choice or a bad choice of motor when there are other newly announced bikes with the new Bosch Line CX (Trek Rail+, Cube Stereo Hybrid). Also you mention it seems to you SC held off on releasing this bike to clear out inventory. How could they have released the bike sooner than Bosch releasing the updated motor?

The biggest weakness is the price per spec.

you know I watched 2 reviews of it and totally missed the lack of removability of the battery thanks for bringing this very important information to light, this makes sure those bike can never be rentals pretty much I don't know if many SC are but not this one for sure, and true to what you announced in a previous video if I'm not mistaken lots of brands are moving to Bosch

Of all the different types of "Mountain" bikes. Which one would you say does the most things well? In other words, not the BEST at any one thing. But, for the person who can only afford one bike and needs it to go up and down?

Fascinating to see all the things that DJI has learned about drone motors - weight, noise, size, etc... - scaled up for an ebike motor. I'm sure competitors are buying copies and tearing them down right now.

Cube has the new 177 AT with Gen 5 and all sram wireless fox X2 and fox 38 wiyh new Grip X2 for same price and its on my list for January.

Got the wrong shock on it! X2 or coil on Horst link, the Float X isn't the best choice for this suspension type.

Is the bike really heavy for a full power 700Wh Enduro? In the specs on the webside it says it is 22kg. Can you confirm? And is there still the issue with the air leaking suspension? And the Codes are really not sufficient?

The geometry chart shows that the smaller the size, the higher the standover height gets. Doesn't make sense.

Omg THANK YOU for pointing out the battery being insufficient, for example if the buyer is into remote recon. It’s still a range game unless you’re specifically buying an SL rig. I’d love to jump back into emtb but so many manufacturers turn me away with small batts. Great idea to have them just include the range extender.

So many other 4 bar bikes out there, this is not ground breaking and doesn't differentiate them. Their older VPPs have square edge harsh feedback, hence all the new models. Not sure why they didn't just get DJI motors.

Oh wow no disrespect! But I would think the new most innovative bike on the market right now coming out soon to the US to purchase the DJI Amflow I would think kicks this Santa Cruz bikes butt up and down, at 42 LBS with 600 watt battery and triple the power of the specialized turbo levo SL at the same weight!! And starting off at 6,000 dollars, why would you want to pay $10,000 for something less effective at a higher weight and less power? Something to think about Folks.

Everything you say here is spot on and intuitive(SC better listen to you!). I ride a 2008 Nomad 26'r and FINALLY, this ebike is starting to bring attention to me...finally! The motor-rider interface is where all development must be and this is the beginning of that philosophy. 6 million dollar man... "We have the technology"

Hmmm. Well I really like my Heckler but that aside, I am glad SC has option for booster battery but based on the specs on their site, the new bikes are not really lighter than the Heckler--especially having a 600 Wh capacity. I wish they had a removable battery because I know my garage gets super cold in the winters here in Boulder. A Vala with a 600 Wh battery would be okay with me if I could switch it out. I want to do the 100 Mile white rim in a day on an ebike. So I am a rare customer. Anyway. my other rant is that rear gearing is stupid. I am experimenting with a 38 tooth chairing outside the specs of SC because I seem to only use the hardest 4 gears on the cassette. Having a 50 tooth cog is ridiculous even on 20% grades on an ebike. I did an ride lately that was 14 miles with only 600 ft of climbing. Rode with no power until I hit the short climbs. I used 5% battery which means I could get 280 miles on a charge. But the downside was that it basically made up for the bike's extra weight. I thought I jumped in late to ebikes but seems I jumped in when it has rapid change.

Hang on there my friend. You are reporting strengths and weaknesses on the "best new Santa Cruz electric mountain bike....", with a brand new motor release, and you haven't put your hands on one. I'll hang on to my world-tested Levo Gen 3 with more power, more battery, an adjustable head tube angle, and three generations of refinement, compared to the Vala. Most e-mtb reviews agree that five pounds doesn't matter on the trail on a full power e-mtb. Honestly I'm more interested in the Gen 4 Levo with the new Brose motor on the way.

I own the Heckler 9 and that thing is amazing. Tough to have buyer’s remorse when every ride puts a smile on my face.

$10K for 'decent' emtb still sounds a bit rich to me and $12K for a high end? That's the same price as a works KTM.

Feels like Santa Cruz has almost caught up to the Gen 3 Levo, which has been around for four riding seasons. Props for the new Bosch motor, but that doesn’t make up for the lack of display, or smaller battery.

Pretty happy with my 2024 Bullit which, yes, I got on sale.

Con #6, No choice for a 29er with a flip chip. It seems SC is catching up rather than hitting a home run.

I offered them entry level and medium level bikes that my ex left behind. Both less than 200 miles. But they bought Custom Made Titanium bikes w little resale chances…. Fancy people.

Ever since I tested a MX bike Horst Leitner fitted his suspension concept to I have been a firm fan of that style suspension, so that is a big plus for me. The 600Wh battery is a definite minus. Looking at the Gen 5 release, the 600Wh & 800Wh were the same length due to a spacer fitting on the 600. I expect Santa Cruz has dispensed with this so as a older guy and also a big unit, the battery is too small. Not too concerned about the 85Nm as most of my rides are 30% Eco and 70% Tour. Only use Emtb if there are tight switchbacks on a steep climb and never use Turbo. Lack of display isn't a biggie as there is a display that goes with this system oryou can connect to a Garmin or phone. On a ride I am usually only concerned about how much battery is left and occasionally what mode I am in. Non removable battery is probably the thing which possibly could be a PITA as I usually remove battery when on the shop stand or if I am travelling with someone else and have to use a towbar rack. Definitely going to check local pricing in a few months.

Do you think you could over stroke the shock to 65mm on the larger sizes and not have clearance issues?
