    "my upper body literally does nothing and everything all at once" is also a perfect description about the importance of core and lat engagement in roller derby motion and contact as well

      Do u have any exercises for this core thing?

      may i ask how do you “engage” the core? i keep hearing this phrase but i’m not entirely sure about what it means and how to do it

      @@alexa___2243 I am so sorry! I didn't see this question. Are you looking for strengthening exercises or for learning how to engage and manage it?

      @@jane_edits13. "The core" is a bit vague. But basically it is all of the muscles that help stabilize and move your torso and hips. Usually considered somewhere around the lower 2/3rds of your torso. Something to understand is that almost every muscle has an "antagonist" muscle, something that opposes its motion. When you are trying to move quickly, you usually want that antagonist to be disengaged, but for control and stability you need support from both sides.
      So with this in mind, "engaging the core" generally means some kind of activation of muscles supporting the pelvis (kegeling up, good for pelvic floor health anyway) and then all of the muscles around the torso as well. Generally it isn't a 100% activation, your goal isn't struggling, it is to support the motion.
      This is something that is a little hard to describe in text, but basically I like to have people make a semi-tight tummy, then hold that as they swivel their torso around. Slowly and under control move your shoulders in relation to your hips, front back sideways all over the place. Then do the same thing while twisting your shoulders or hips. Then move your hips while trying to keep your shoulders in the same place.
      As you do it, feel what muscles have to turn on in order to keep the movements smooth and slow, what does it feel like to turn those on. Then try to engage them without moving your torso, hold your hips and upper body strong but not rigid. Then try to do the same thing, but slightly bend one knee and touch the ground with your other toe in front, in back, to the sides, lift that mobile knee up.
      All of these things require your torso to support the motion, and having at least partial engagement of muscle pairs in your torso can help you have a strong counterbalance and get good power transfer through your body.
      Hopefully this helps! The best thing I can say is try to learn what it feels like, and work backwards from there

    But is there a way to spin without your foot skin catching on the floor or does it just depend on the floor/foot?
    Asking as someone who only dances casually

    • @robloxadventures5495
      @robloxadventures5495 Год назад +2

      Yes it depends on the floor but most dancers use a certian shoe that is special to turning called lyrical shoes! We dont use them at our studio but other people use them!
