He wasn’t the first person to considered for Al,Ed O’Neill auditioned , they saw Al Bundy and he got the part. Michael Richard ( Seinfeld- Cosmo Kramer )was under consideration,
There are plenty of reasons in the world to be upset or offended about. This is NOT one of them. The running underlay of the series is that Al was a high school football star on the track to success after graduation. Now he's a middle-aged salesman with a family that doesn't respect him. He's part of the butt end of the joke in the end. Most of the larger-than-average women in the full scenes were also what is now called a Karen. Not quite as gritty as Married With Children that 70's Show was hilarious. 😂😅
I saw someone's comment that said, many of the "fat jokes" came from the large comedic actresses on the show. 😄 Who knows a fat joke better? Peace, from the NC colony
Comedy is a universal language (except to those easily offended). Being "across the pond" I've been a huge fan of "brit-coms" from the likes of The Two Ronnies, Are You Being Served, to Faulty Towers (and more). Great stuff on BOTH sides!! Sadly, they just can't make them like those anymore without SOMEBODY being offended!
the large women marching were all the past large women he had spats with. the leader lady was the lady from the pilot and she appeared multiple times, all these ladies were comedians that usually helped with the insult, also women wrote many episodes as well many of the ctazier ones typically. marcy(amanda bearse) directed and i think wrote quite a few episodes which is great because she helped write als insult at her. another thing these clips dont show is al doesnt insult unless he is insulted first.
In real life the actor Ed O'Neill who played Al Bundy is a Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt and for a brief short period he made the cut to be on the Pittsburgh Steelers American football team but got cut not long after. I used to love this show
I believe the lady playing Marcy (getting real breast for Christmas, that woman) she was one of the writers on this show. Some of the jokes were written and or influenced by her.
I do wonder if these writers made a show today if they would have such fast and witty jokes with more modern boundaries for comedy. I think people take things too seriously but I also think Married with Children went after everybody and if in a modern world it would probably have no end of targets. The make fun of everything approach can work.
I've got to admit, I never thought to compare Al Bundy with Basil Fawlty, but you're right, there are a lot of similarities between the two. edit: If you've never seen it, I would recommend watching "Hogan's Heros"
I like your takes on comedy American shows! But, however your takes on what's "woke" or not, leaves something be desired. "Woke' came from black Americans speaking about the injustices people all over the world. It's a human issue, but I like your content overall.
Not my cup of tea. I do not especially like the shows where humor is based on shitty people constantly insulting each other. But it is just me, everybody who enjoy this kind of sitcoms, go ahead.
Married with Children was my favorite sitcom in the 80’s.
and 90's.

The show was written for Roseanne Barr and ( can't think of his name ) the guy that is always screaming
Sam kinison, probably not spelled right

Other comments to check out. I would say Titus and the war at home and the original night Court

2:33 That's Dan Castellanata, the voice of Homer Simpson, among others.

US "The Office". US "All in the Family". "Cheers". "Sanford and Son". "Modern Family". And an absolute must, "Police Squad" (from "Naked Gun")
Thanks!
Many of the fat jokes and many of the large women you saw were the people that wrote the joke.
Shiza Minelli🤣

On COZI now.

Two and a Half Men
You guys had a great TV series called "My Family". IMO, Ben Harper was similar to Al Bundy.
Have you tried Seinfeld? Very funny sitcom.
I bought the first 2 seasons of Seinfeld on dvd from amazon, just haven't watched them yet. Any one remember the sitcom-GROUNDED for LIFE ???
😂😂😂 Al Bundy is becoming a world wide hero. He is basically the champion of the down trodden. He makes everyone feel better.
Another series considered a ripoff of Married with Children was a 90's sitcom "Unhappily Ever After".

No studio has the balls to do it. But if they did it like this they would have the
Number one show on tv

Don't agree this should be rerun but it isn't much different than South Park & Family Guy being shown now.
BTW, the gay guy towards the beginning is none other than Homer Simpson, Dan Castellaneta.
if u watch the credits most of the writers are women.
i am a fat guy laugh away i sure do
There is no such thing as woke.
Try modern family he’s a star in that one too a very different character but hillarious show

Woke is simply being honest about historical racism. Al is poking fun at fat people, not related.
