I recently gave a speech at Washington University in St. Louis followed by Q&A with students. This student took me to task over Florida’s Parental Rights in Education Bill (aka “Don’t Say Gay” Bill) and his perception of right-wing bigotry and misinformation. How did I do? Let me know in the comments!

The fact that a reasonable person has to tell woke people that bringing sex topics in front of kids and that pedophilia is wrong, is horrifying.
I do agree with you but pedofphilia and bringing sex related topics to kids are on a whole other level
I have an easy solution
@@SimplyStrength043 What if I told you there are books in elementary libraries that share stories of fathers having sex with their daughters and the sister being gelous she isn't getting the attention. Would that be considered pedophile related reading material?
@@SimplyStrength043 why did you contradict what op said, only to agree with them?
@@Arthurian. what did I contradict
I’m a lesbian childcare educator . Never felt the need to teach 3 year olds about sexuality, bring in pride flags , confuse them . Another teacher I worked with was also lesbian and had a wife . She just talked about her wife normally the way she would with a husband . The fact that we need a BILL for common sense now is shocking . I laughed when all the wokies completely misinterpreted a very simple bill.
(Edit: after reading comments I wanted to state . telling me anything rude about me being gay. Telling me to repent my sins. Blaming me for the downfall of society. Not cool. Let’s not be extreme on either end please. And yes I’m a childcare educator who is gay. Seems to be confusion about that. I never said Lesbian children lol)
Misinterpreted? They deliberately mislabeled it.
90% of viewers and subscribers in this comment section think you can and should just magically stop being a lesbian through prayers and get married with a man for the sake of civilization and society and the natural law. You’re not welcome here, go back to BuzzFeed
Unfortunately. When we legislated for gay people to have every right of married people. The promiscuous, debauched hedonist sort of people could not be left out without being discriminated against. We let Pandora out of the box

He’s not talking with or listening to conservatives , he’s listening to what liberals SAY about conservatives. That’s one of the biggest problems today.
true
Exactly!!!!
💯
It's a key difference between the movements. Progressives will misrepresent the talking points of conservatives in order to convince others. Conservatives will just let progressives speak and highlight the absurdity.
@@ocarinaplaya Depends who you're listening to. It's coming from both sides. Although, I largely agree. There is more of it from the progressive side.
He didn’t even know the name of the bill or anything that was actually in the bill and was actually trying to educate her. I’m flabbergasted that we actually entertain this level of moronic behavior.
Later that day he was diagnosed with heterophobia woke cancer.😂
I think entertaining it is the most important thing you can do. It's tedious, but if you don't put in the work to hear, digest, and discuss with them patiently, they're not going to grow or learn. If we just write them off as idiots or disregard them, they'll do the same to us. No body wins, everyone loses.
You can’t really expect a student to know the name of the bill. It is like expecting a person who is attending maths class to know every nitty detail about something. I don’t think he was trying to educate her. He definitely had his own views shaped by the media. But I think it was cool that he decided to attend a republican q and a, and have a healthy discussion.
He’s a lefty. Does that answer it?
Right! But he says he doesn't like the other side spreading lies as he does it.
This young man was a perfect example of people who instead of listening are thinking about their next question. He didn't hear anything she said.He was stuck on his own agenda in his head and instead of actively listening was actively thinking.
Great way to put it! You are correct.

@@sailure1 That's because they're always trying to get the "gotcha question"! However, Jordan Peterson they're NOT!!!
Yes, you can tell by the content of his speech that he never intended to search for unbiased truth or have an open mind. Very typical of leftist-indoctrinated students. This is similar to the behavior of students during Mao's Cultural Revolution period in communist Chinese history. It's like talking to a robot.
And this trait is not one found exclusively in younger people but one often displayed in adversarial news media interviews.
That dude didn't care for anything she had to say because it didn't fit his narrative. She was patient, intelligent & precise.
That's be cause he wasn't trying to hear but to try to trap her and have his "gotcha" moment.
He was barely even listening - his job that day was to just keep 'what about this. what about that' - over and over with the same strawman. And he of course ignores the reality of the bill he was LYING about...
Ugh it was so frustrating listening this guy! Amala was very patient with him.
here in the uk, we used and probabaly still do of course, called homos, poufs irons, swithcers, nancy boys and so on, the poufs sort of stole the word gay, so normal people cant say i had a gay time, you will get looked at funny, now after all these years of wanting to be called, they dont like it. actually most normal people here who aint woke still call them poufs faries nany boys etc,
That's because he's a pedophile
Amala, that was absolutely great. You are very good at articulating the facts without totally drowning your opposite debater.
She is so young yet so matured and smart. She explained it very well.
This kid is difficult to listen to. He is saying nothing. Amala has amazing patience.
(SIMP ALERT) Yes, she has a lot of amazing things...
Exactly what i thought.
They rarely do say anything.
In addition to having nothing of substance to say, he has a really annoying voice. It's like a voice from a muppet monster character
I wish people without a real interest in these topics would stop having opinions ie. People without kids having an opinion on what should be taught to other people's kids, like it actually has no bearing on their existence except for something to do when they are bored. I wish these people had more hobbies other than just being a skin colour or being a sexuality, its really quite uninteresting
Girl, I love your professionalism. You didn't get bitchy, you didn't hit back, you just laid out facts.
And so what if she did. To keep having to repeat this over and over is ridiculous.
@@eigna8914 in today's day and age we have to continuously repeat facts, such as a person with a penis can I get pregnant.

She didn't give facts though. Her "picture book with two daddies in it" example is most definitely prohibited in certain grades in the HB1557 bill.
He is unbearable, he is given proper reasonable answers and he NEVER replies her dialogues, is like he can't listen, he just constantly answers from a victim standpoint 😅
You go, Amala! So proud of your transformation!
Amala: "Here are the facts..."

That's when you switch tactics and appeal to their emotion, these people don't think logically, they think emotionally and you have to refrain the argument to emotion.
"I FEEL that to say that the bill in the Florida is the 'Don't Say Gay' Bill is deeply homophobic because you're conflating the term 'groomer' with the LGBT community and therefore lobbing unnecessary hatred for the community by framing them as child groomers."
So your telling me in Florida the Bible is banned because if you believe her facts they don't talk about sex with a woman and a man and if you read the Bible you know its full of sex with children, prostitutes and parents with their kids gross but yeah lets keep the Bible in schools
What she’s saying is not registering in his head 😂
We are so far back in the world 🌎 of education. This young man is proof.😢
His questions were painfully devoid of intelligence
I lean left politically, but I have soooo much respect and admiration for this powerful young woman.
She blows him out of the water and he refuses to acknowledge she bested him in the debate. He's a tool!
We can’t expect anything else from, is just their nature.
He's halfway there. He says he is confused, because he is indoctrinated and hasn't come to 'his' point of view through reasoning it out. Something doesn't add up, and he knows it. But he doesn't know what it is.
He is then confronted with facts and reasoning, can't respond, and has to say SOMETHING. All he can say is 'I disagree', but can't continue with a 'because......'. Because he's got nothing, and has just realised in front of a bunch of people, so he has to depart.
It's a winning or losing mindest for him. Not a discussion
What debate? It was one person answering with sense and reasoning the other an utterly ignorant person composing ridiculous claims.
How can you best someone in a debate, its a debate
"Republicans lie" - then proceeds to lie the entire time he's speaking.
The funniest part was when he was talking about republicans and election denial. Is he so young he didn’t live through the Trump presidency where EVERY major Democrat politician called the Trump presidency illegitimate? Or Stacey Abrams never conceding that she lost to Kemp? It’s really mental gymnastics.
Whilst the Democrats constantly lie and get caught doing so. Bet he burries his head when it comes to that.

In other words, being a typical leftist. He's repeating everything he's heard from CNN, MSDNC, etc....
@@Elfrunner It makes sense to an extent, in practical terms, not mental - if one party's official partyline involves promoting sexual deviancy and the disintegration of civilized society, it stands to reason no civilized person can support any member of that party, who is absolutely required to toe the partyline.

So great to see a young lady who is so grounded and who can rationally discuss important topics with common sense and facts to back up claims ❤

I'm a 67 year old lawyer. Ms. Ekpunobi, you have an excellent ability to debate and remain focused on an issue without getting sidetracked by emotionally-based attacks. Yep
I could not have held my emotions back like she did with this guy who was an obvious leftist
Are you saying Candace Owens isn't effective?
Agree this was objective and respectful. I believe it’s not responsible for educators to imply to kids in school that same sex relationships carry no consequences with regard to starting a family. Kids DO associate parents with producing children and during pride month I’ve seen kids getting confused because they have assumed that two men or two women can make a baby on their own because that is their understanding of what parents do.

Amala is an example of a high functioning woman to me.
I totally agree with you about what schools should be teaching vs what should be left to the parents. I think the problem has come about in large part because many parents don't want to have these hard or uncomfortable conversations with their kids and it is easier to just leave it to the schools.
I really don’t understand why this guy is having such a hard time understanding where you’re coming from! It’s like trying to tell him that a square doesn’t fit into a circular hole and him telling you otherwise with the truest conviction!

When I was doing private guitar lessons and some of my pupils were taking GCSE music I wanted to get the curriculum just for the music class so I could make sure that I covered everything and what I time we had to get that, the parents went in then I made an opponent to see the music teacher, then the parents had to go in, they really didn't want to give it to us. I got it in the end and was a bit shocked they had changed words we use in music to this standardized teaching language but nothing that radical I could see why they were afraid to give it us. I suppose it set a precedent to get it from other classes.
Such an intelligent speaker... you earned my subscribe 100%
It seriously astonishes me how so many people don’t understand the majority of parents frustration with inappropriate education. This is what happens when a whole generation goes through a society that lacks shame.
I do think a lot of parents would be upset about a book that simply shows two dads or two moms, and I don't blame them, but definitely the truly infuriating thing is the blatant teaching of sexuality. If it was just situations where some book had an innocuous picture that happens to show same sex parents, but the book had nothing to do with the relationship, then there wouldn't be such an uproar as there is now. There would be some parents who would talk to the school board, some parents who would just tell their kids to not read those books, and some parents who might pull their kids out of that school and move on.
"Ok, but like," repeat after every statement she makes. Not listening to her answers, just picking one part he can go "ok, but like."
As a parent, she is right. I don't care what kind of sexual relationship a school wants to try to explain to MY kid, don't do it!
What else is he supposed to do? It's psychologically really difficult for people to admit their wrong, especially when they feel like they just don't know all of the information. People are heavily invested in their worldviews and beliefs. You cannot fairly expect people to convert on the spot. You might get them thinking afterwards though.
@ElmerAwesome very true. The difficulty is that a lot of people with this mindset don't want to change. They expect change on the other side. Hopefully he will rethink some of his "ideas." I honestly think that anyone who doesn't have a child, shouldn't have the opportunity to make decisions for parents. I know that won't happen, but when I was a young adult I had vastly different thoughts than when I actually had children. It changes you (well, it should).
Ok i guess but like you know that by saying that ... like you know makes you sound a bigot i guess like...
Ok but like..
@@ElmerAwesome I don't think they were expecting immediate conversion… Just for him to actually listen to the view. It was pretty clear he wasn't really listening from how he addressed the differing views. At best, he was only half listening. It sounded more like he was just regurgitating points from leftist media.
I feel like the fact that there are many of the LGBT community who actually support the new law… Should give people who oppose the law pause. at the very least, it should stop them and make them think… "Here I am opposing the bill, but the very people I am defending seem to support it… Why is that?"
You shouldn't debate anything with a child..they have no basis on which to debate...no life experience...no knowledge as compared to adults...thats why they are in school ....because they don't kno shit
So Amala as a black woman how do feel about Desantis' department of education saying slavery was good for Black people?
I don't think they said that buddy
AMALA THANK YOU FOR YOUR WORK........
Amala brought out the #Facts!!! 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽 Exactly why I left the #Dem party. They can NEVER support their arguments with facts.
Same here! I used to be a screaming liberal up till about 10 years ago. it was slowly eroding when St.Obummer was in office. When Trump was elected in 2016, I was one of the few gays who didn't cry that night.
Actually there are facts all the time. They argue everything is the other way because they feel like it. There is the fact. :)
Same, I left because they have collective brain damage.
@@Kornknealious I made the turn watching the 2016 election process take place. Listening to the lies the media kept purporting to be true, when the actual video disproves them. Spoke very eloquently and concise. Loved it.
I love how articulate that young man was trying to be. He thought he was outsmarting her and he was behind the entire time. He had no argument
He was just trying to start some shit with her. But he lost.
Yup lol had no argument
Trying to be articulate, exactly. Can’t string a sentence together without like this, like that, like the other.
What are you talking about? I thought it was great, that he was having an intelligent conversation and hopefully learned something. To put him down, is sad. BTW, Amala didn’t even answer the election question. Instead, she answered a different question from the one asked, because she couldn’t answer the original one.
@@dscheaffer well to be fair his one question was turned into 3-4 different questions when she asked for 1 example, which is fine I’m sure he had a lot on his mind. But both of them forgot that question afterwards because she asked after answering one of the questions what the other parts were again. And I wouldn’t say unintelligent but just a bit stubborn and maybe close-minded? Because of when she would try answering the first part, he would just try to interrupt her a bit or just disagree and just throw out everything she just said. Plus I’m sure they have a time limit as the person having questions so they were kinda like “times up” lolz. He definitely wasn’t extremely rude but I’m sure he felt everything he heard or believed is turning on its head a bit or maybe just tilting so I wouldn’t blame him if he got a bit defensive. A lot of things have nuances tho, so it’s easy to just say things are black or white which she says maybe republicans feel that way but isn’t 100% sure since she hasn’t done the research for that specifically (which is admirable, I prefer people say when they don’t know rather than spew bs). But in the end I do agree she did miss a question but they both kinda skipped over it
Amala is killin' it
I can watch Amala talk about important things all day

You understand the definition of the word in this context right?
Amala is not conservative. She's an athiest and just like the man who She's diologing with , she has no problem with a gay relationship. Just the blatant sexual graphics taught to minors. What she can't see is you can't have one without the other. Without Christ the view is skewed, blurred. Wrong.

As a Floridian mother I really appreciate you helping to clear the air and tell the truth about the Parental Rights in Education bill. When my child was in elementary school (not long ago), I found out they were doing daily or weekly surveys on whether the kids were feeling like girls or boys! Excuse me but my son is 8 and he FEELS like playing Minecraft, that's what he feels like every day lol. At that age they don't have a complete understanding of what's a safe interaction or topic, or what grooming is. Having a stranger, yes teachers are barely more than strangers, talking to my children about how they should feel about a sexual situation or identity, or explaining scenarios without my knowledge is horrifying! How many educators have been arrested, just in the last 5 years for inappropriate relationships with their students? Values, morals, and sexuality issues are my job not the teachers. They should stick to the hard skills and let parents handle the soft skills.
You can say the same thing about the Catholic Church but you don’t see the outcry about that
@@CarolCityCane305 bad timing dude. By like a few centuries.
I bet u find a few more historically predatory educational institutions containing pedophiles but can we focus on the current version? An outcry against what Catholic Church did at its worst doesn't make any sense. An outcry against what schools are doing NOW does.
This shit is bad enough to unite most people standing on both sides and centre.
Only people against "sex education" for minors are far-leftists. U one of them? Are you for sexual education for minors? If not then you're just creating unnecessary distraction.
People in middle ages didn't call out on church, are you calling out the system? Or are u just distracting those who are calling out?

As a bisexual, I support the don't say gay bill.
So you think it's appropriate to force teacher to out their students to the parents, if the students come out as gay? Also, isn't this contrary to the concept of small government?
Oh you’re just mad that gay people pretend you don’t exist.
@@technoloverish So you think it's appropriate for teachers to keep secrets of students from their own parents?
@@technoloverish anytime an adult is actively keeping secrets from a parent about their child, I question the intentions of that adult.
@@yatsuto6088
Yes, if that secret isn't something that is harmful to the student. Just being gay is not harmful. Also, some parents would no react well to that news, so school is the only place where they can be themselves
In the fifth grade the only type of "sex ed" I got was about periods. Even then, the teachers sent the parents an email telling them what the conversation was going to be about (literally just how to use a pad and the discomfort that can come with puberty), and told them that if they wanted their child to opt out to send a reply saying so. It baffles me how some schools and teachers think they can teach children about things like this without consent from the parents. Where's the respect?
I'm clearly much older than you. We didn't have email until I was in college. And for sex ed the shaman just pointed out of the cave at the sheep fucking.
There is no respect for parents anymore, and that's a lot of the big deal that a lot of people are having, much like myself, because I plan on being a parent eventually, hopefully in the near future, and I'm not going to have my kid(s) go to a school that does that, where they push a narrative more so than I actually teach the kid what the hell they're supposed to learn
@@thesonofmalice1999 hillary clinton said it bluntly: "i believe the primary role of the state is to teach, train and raise children. the parents role is secondary." -Hllary Clinton, "It takes a village" what a POS
I Don't know how old you are, but that period video (vhs) played for the girls at my school in 1996. All the boys were in the science class. Our Science teacher asked us to deliver books to our English teacher, me and another boy, an arm load each. Guess where the period video was playing being watched by 75 girls... most awkward moment of my life.
The "don't say gay bill" was specifically worded for children 11 and under. We are talking about public kindergarten schools and 1st through 4th grade public schools. If you go to Disney World, they give discounts for children 12 and under. We are talking about an age group where parents "should" get a call from the school if the child "had an accident" (pooped or peed their pants.) Some public schools have "changing rooms" for trans kids who "feel more comfortable wearing different clothing than when their parents last saw them.
The law asserts that 4th graders and below be taught colors, numbers, how to fasten buttons, zippers and other fasteners, tie shoe laces, addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, the alphabet, reading and writing, geometric shapes, earth science, history and how to tell time from an analog clock.
Important basics information. Critical gender theory does not make that list of basics according to the "don't say gay law". Alternatively, the law could have easily been called the "don't say straight" law. As it prohibits sex and gender in any form from being taught.
When you list out the things children are taught at that age level, and bring up crap like a book with 2 dad's, the Democrats are being disingenuous liars.
They are legitimately introducing subject matter that no child NEEDS to be subjected to at that age. Many of the books that teach children about "gender" have graphic pictures and language most people consider porn.
Democrats would argue that a 5 year old kid needs to know what is going on in Fifty Shades of Gray... Not simply for straight couples, but for gays, lesbians, transgenders and multiple partners...
Because diversity, equity, and inclusion is "our strength".
Also banned from public school libraries is the Bible. Which actually does bring up polygamy and cheating situations, but clearly not as graphic. And nobody is allowed to bring up the bible in public schools for kids of ANY age. Nor do they discuss themes or characters from the bible.
Just some context to consider when listening to the arguments of this young man in the video.
But don't take my words for it. Go read the law for yourself. It is posted online. It is written in plain spoken English. It is less than 2 pages long.
Most random people on the street were able to read it, understand it, and agree with it, as it pertains to children from 4 to 11.
Additional context. Just this week stories of hundreds of public school teachers arrested and charged with sexual molestation and assault of minors. Happened in Chicago. A city with Liberal Democrat policies from the school board on up to the mayor. Probably thousands of children victims. And people will ask, "where were the parents?"
Exactly. Probably the parents were at home or work sending tweets mocking the "don't say gay"law and the "parent right to know" what is being taught in school. Sure, maybe their kids were raped by school teachers, but at least nobody can call them racist or homophobic. They voted Democrat.
You are so smart and so eloquent. You’re very patient as well.
Amala should've pressed him for a response by saying, "do you have a response to what I said?" or "I'd like to hear your disagreement with what I said" instead of totally letting him off the hook.

Yeah and the fact that he literally just repeated his questions like they weren't answered already. If you're going to present your side, listen to the other.
Years ago my Public school that had a religious period. Those with different religions sat out the class. I wish she had reminded him that if the left wanted the right to teach sex, conservatives could then teach their preferred religion...I would have loved to see him rationalize that one.
We had sex education in the six grade in health class. We just needed permission from our parents.
