If you can’t work on your own cars don’t buy one that’s 20 plus years old. The leaky battery issue was due to early production side post batteries prone to leak. Those leak prone batteries are no longer in production and the previous owners had them replaced 20 years ago with more dependable side post batteries. 90% of the electronic gremlins impacting a C5 are caused by corroded grounds. @@gotmylkany advice for someone looking to buy a c6 with low mileage? Things i should look out for before purchasing or should i pay someone to come out for an inspection of the car before i go through with buying?
@@mass9213 I'm not as familiar with the C6 as I am the C5 but if you are new to either model it's ALWAYS in your best interest to have someone familiar with these model Corvettes assist you with the inspection. The C6 is more like a C5.5 than it is a redesigned model. My reccomendations as a hobbyist and C5 enthusiast is to drive both models before making a purchase. C5 is a much sexier car in my opinion, the LS1 and LS6 are more reliable than LS2, the C5 has more passenger hip and head room (I'm tall and big) otherwise I would have owned at least 1 C6 and not 3 C5s. The C6 is smaller inside and out, a bit more nimble, makes more power than the LS1 and LS6 (torque being the big advantage LS2 over LS6), but the LS2 ('05 to '07 C6) is a motor I would steer clear of, especially if performance modifications are a likely path for you. Which I personally always mod my sports cars and hot rods... would only opt for a C6 from 2008 to 2013 with an LS3. The LS3 is a fantastic engine and by far better than the LS1 & LS6 for power and just as reliable. But the LS3 powered C6's demand a higher premium and rightfully so.
Nice taste in wheels. I have the same ones on my 03 and mine is a 6 speed manual. Love it! The draw backs with the 97-2000. The ebcm can't be rebuilt and damn near impossible to find used to new. The 2001-04 can be rebuilt
Thank you i was actually planning to buy a 98 vette and i wanted to put somethings for example change the head lights and exhaust this helped a ton if you could make a part 2 of it if you can i would love it also i love your content
Look up LCM5 to fix the column lock. you don't have to take the column/ignition apart to fix this if it occurs. The bump in HP for the 01's and up is from the LS3 manifold (not the exhaust) that became standard equip on the LS1's in Late 01-04 on the standard models.
I have my eyes on c4s for now but I’m planning on getting a cdl super soon and I’ll have more than enough money for a c5 at that point. I never really looked at c5s too much until now but they are insane and I love them
Cool video, and you are on the right path. 97-00 are the years you want to avoid because of the ABS module that cant be fixed. The convertible is actually 1 pound heavier than that stock C5. The best year to get is an 03 or 04, they worked out all the kinks in those years, but 03 wins because the fuel pump isn't in the fuel tank like it is in the 04. They have bypass options for the steering wheel that will address those issues. Also agree with the comments below, Manual transmission is the way to go in these cars. One last thing, your car is sweet. I have a black convertible, and will be blacking everything out like you did on yours (vettelights). Maybe do a video on the LEDs you put in the headlights.
Sorry, you are not updated. Today its even hard to find an +01ABS Control Unit because they are also start to get Rarely. Its just a question of Time. Maybe 5-10 years and the +01ABS Control Unit will also be ""Unfixable"". Beside that ABS Module is always Fixable, for all Corvette Years. We only talk about the Control Unit, wich is not the Module. Module and Control Unit are 2 different Things.
Early 03 models' fuel pumps were not in ther fuel tank. There was a mid-production-year change to the in-tank pumps that carried through the 2004 MY, so that's not an 03 benefit for all instances.
Nice ride! I just picked up a 2004 c5 corvette 2004 commemorative edition 79,000 miles. Love this car, no crazy mods, intake. Doing a lot of cosmetic stuff at the moment. I used to own a 98 and I was the lucky one to get the column lock...that was fun.

I think at the end of the day it's very hard to beat the performance for dollar of this car. I personally think the soft lines of the C5 give it a sleek design that has only gotten better with age, and at 405hp at 3,100 pounds even 20 years later this car is still in the mix with the performance of modern sports cars because they're all heavier now. Where can you get a 3,100 pound V8 sports car now?

You could always ask me anyway. If I have insight or experience on whatever it is I'll share it.
I had a 97' ... in 97'... I loved it...
Beautiful car i am looking at a 04 on Monday fingers crossed.
Looking at a 2004 Z06 CE on Saturday! Cheers
Did u ever ended up buying it?
Nice taste in wheels. I have the same ones on my 03 and mine is a 6 speed manual. Love it! The draw backs with the 97-2000. The ebcm can't be rebuilt and damn near impossible to find used to new. The 2001-04 can be rebuilt
Best review I’ve seen..
Thank you.
Thank you i was actually planning to buy a 98 vette and i wanted to put somethings for example change the head lights and exhaust this helped a ton if you could make a part 2 of it if you can i would love it also i love your content
I am so happy I was able to help, that just made my day
Look up LCM5 to fix the column lock. you don't have to take the column/ignition apart to fix this if it occurs. The bump in HP for the 01's and up is from the LS3 manifold (not the exhaust) that became standard equip on the LS1's in Late 01-04 on the standard models.
LS6 manifold not LS3
Thank you for the information! Always love some constructive criticism
@@BabyJsC5 Seriously great video. Keep up the good work! :)

Hey man awesome video! I have a 01 vette and the reason the headlight doesn’t go down regularly is because of the LEDs if you add a resistor to your headlights it should solve the problem and work normally

To fix the ignition issue there is a plug and play harness.
Love my c5 it's a 2001 had for 2 months fixed heads up display.,abs and body controle module swaybar links all bad only 63k miles .. I like it more than my 69 camaro..
you've got some awesome toys!
Only the zo6 has 405
345 HP until 2001 then 350 HP excluding z06
Plan on getting one this year thanks for the tips 💯 earned a sub

Man, your C5 looks great! I just bought ( last summer) ‘04 Commemorative Edition and YOU HAVE TO CHECK OUT, the Knightdrive Sleepy Eye LED , halo kit . First thing I did to mine … makes the car look sick! Would look great on yours.
I was considering getting the sleepy headlights but I ultimately decided to go with a more traditional look. Where can I see yours!!?
@@BabyJsC5 there’s pictures of mine floating around, but , you can see plenty online , I’ve got 3 square halo’s as running lights, 2 come on for reg. I’ve had mine since 2021 and they absolutely crapped out on me this year. They look sweet, but I could never get them to properly work. I definitely installed them correctly too. Maybe it’s been fixed by now, but you may have dodged a bullet in not getting them.
Watch out for the shifter linkage they will snap on you lol 😂. I’m on my 5th one best way is to use the hand brake every time you use the car!!! Meaning if it’s in park shift into drive then release the handbrake!!!!
The problem with 4 speed that I had on my old c5 was that it would granny shift whenever you floored it sometimes.
Yea I’ve definitely realized that
I just found a good quality c5 for 15 926 should I cop
You only want 01-04 older ones have abs failures.
Yeah the older years had a little less power and a few more issues
it’s not a hard fix and it’s not just corvettes👍

It would be nice to know what to look out for as far as bad mods when shopping for a C5
Stumbled across this video which actually was more helpful than you realize. Cant really decide what year vette i want to swap to. Any opinions or recommendations would be great lol. Love the look of your car! Very clean. Super nice car and great content. Thanks for the video

i found a 1998 corvette with 64k miles for 13.5k is that price fair?
absolutely. You need to remember, if they sit a lot, they might not have been driven that much and that might have caused rusted parts. But all in all, that price is fair

@@dylanrogers8494 I’m watching this vid in these comments wondering the same my man
@@dylanrogers8494 the ls1 is a very reliable engine. only thing you need to look out for is modifications with the high mileage. honestly, if its a good deal, 100k-200k is just fine. obviously lower the better, but these engines are absurdly reliable for sports car standards. 2003 c5 is probably the most reliable, other models have problems with oil consumption and whatever.
@@dylanrogers8494obviously the less miles the better, but probably don't buy one with around 200,000 that's where the engines that aren't well maintained can fail and transmissions degrade. I'd say safe buying limit for miles is probably around 150,000 but even then you should probably get the engine rebuilt.

I personally think that 9.5k for it is very good bargain for 76,000 miles and that for a 98 model, also keep in mind that cars in cheap rates can have some faults, but its just my opinion . If you love this car and have been dreaming of it ,you should totally go for it.
@@Vorcaon i found one thats mint and stock with 6k miles with a manual transmision comes with a glass top thats never been used it sat in a garage for 10+years we redid the fluids yesterday should I buy it for 15k?
@@ronitpunj4299 Hey the price for the glass top car compare to miles on it sounds really good , BUT there are also things that id check before really going for it as its been sitting for a while.
the battery is most likely dead but you already motioned how you redid the fluids and run it down so I assume you already checked it. You've probably already checked the tires on the car too but also do make sure to hear the sound of your engine and brakes as sounds from rusty breaks give of those grindy sounds as I assume that you know what I mean. Id also check some common parts like the fuel pump and air Filter.
the Car Having glass top is also actually quite better than that of none as it gives off a little more space on your car on your interior clearance ,its a bad thing for sunray heat but I've seen people solve this issue by simply tinting it(depends on your country if they allow it)
but be prepared to deal with fuel and ignition issues due to old or gummed-up components.
In the end it still all depends on you I told you everything I can in short . I mean IF you want it whose gonna stop you right?
no bro, plz let me get it
