Timing chains don't actually stretch although the term is a shorthand for chain wear. The pins wear along with the sprockets they mesh with resulting in excess clearance and changing the effective pitch diameter of the sprocket resulting in a slack chain. It's usually caused by lack of lubrication or dirty oil. Personally I recommend running synthetic oil in your daily drivers as it lubricates better than conventional oil.
Hi Mark If you use 2 large sockets and put them inside the chain stretch them fully apart on a level surface and measure the distance from the outer of 1 socket to outer of second socket do the same on new chain and compare dimensions down to the half millimeter see if theres any differance
That's quite involved, makes you wonder if it would be easier to take the engine out and replace a few other items whilst you are at it, especially the water pump for example
Excellent progress today Mark, is it ready yet !!! I know exactly where you are coming from, but as you say happy wife happy life, just tell her she will have to use public transport for a few days 🚌 catch up on the next one matey 😀😀👍👍
Hi, don't you think as you are tearing so much of the engine down to do the chain , it would be worth while preventing any issues with the water pump down the line and change it while you are there , just think you go to all this trouble to do the chain and 500 miles later the water pump fails and you have to do it all again, only 5 mins into the video you may have already changed your mind and decided to do it lol side casing plenty of degreaser and the jet wash will bring that up like new
Awesome video of showing your rump in time lapse.

Thanks mate yeah definitely happy wife happy life 🤣🤣
see how much the old chain deflects sideways, you will be surprised.
Don't worry about the length not being different
Thanks mate yeah I will do some tests I just thought I was going to see some clear difference 👍👍

Iv seen somewhere the tensioner fails on them and the chain rattles about
It is quite likely the tensioners as someone suggested, either way her in doors as spoken and wants her car back have a good Pancake Tuesday buddy
Hi mate yeah probably the tensioner 👍👍
its probably the tensioners allowing the chains to slap about, seen it before
Thanks mate appreciate it 👍👍
Could be chain tensioners or vvti gear
Hi what music do you use for your channel please?
Hi mate the music was made for me I own it 👍👍
Can't understand why you didn't replace the water pump ?
Chains don't stretch it's a fallacy they wear
