I will be fine. I am in control. I am okay.” to anyone who is reading this right now, i love you. and so do many others. you have nothing to worry about. take a breath and appreciate the good things about this world. everything is and will be okay. you’ve got this. and i love you.
It doesn't even need that many words does it... We all feel it. That eerie feeling of hopelessness, being lost somewhere, flashing images of fantastic cityplanets, technology advanced, an earth unrecognizable. What was humanity again? What's nature? It's every man for himself. "High Tech, Low Life"

This mix, as far as I can recall was my first introduction to synthwave. When I heard the first track Mike Noise - Low Earth Orbit, I went “This is beautiful, I’ve never heard of this genre before, I want more of it” RUclips recommendations heard my prayers and gave me Aphasia Records Pulse Power by Dynatron, MALO March of Progress, HOME Resonance, Electronic Gems Voyage Beyond, Astral Throb’s synthwave mixes, New Retro Wave channel which all pulled me into the genre hook, line, and sinker. This mix single-handedly led me down a musical journey of finding out phenomenal synthwave artists such as Dynatron, HOME, Voyage, Emil Rottmayer, Power Glove, Nightstop, Com Truise, Droid Bishop, Mitch Murder, Unfound, Speed Machine, Dawnrazer, Volkor X, Mega Drive, Kavinsky, Lazerhawk, Scandroid, Irving Force, FM-84, The Midnight, Kalax, Timecop 1983, Miami Nights 1984, WICE, Wolf and Raven, Yota, NINA, Dana Jean Phoenix, GUNSHIP, Magic Sword, Euan Ellis, Dance With The Dead, We Are Magonia, GosT, Shredder 1984, Dan Terminus, King Stephen and of course the legendary juggernauts of synth; Perturbator and Carpenter Brut. It also led to my discovery of other media such as the movie Drive and the video game Hotline Miami. RUclips recently recommended me this mix again and revisiting it took me on a trip down memory lane and it fills me with so much nostalgia with how fascinated I was with my discovery of synthwave and wanting more. Back when times seemed more simple, those were the days. Thank you Odysseus for this mix, I think it had a domino effect on me not just in my musical tastes, I used to be a metalhead still am, but as a person as well. I don’t know where I would be if I didn’t discover this genre of music, nostalgia aside there’s something about it that just fills your head with all sorts of stories - it’s quite magical. Now I want to make a video game and an animated show that revolves heavily around synthwave and the stories it weaved in my head, it’s a little too ambitious I know. In summary, this mix very gud and synthwave activates neurons leading to inspiration.
I remember opening this about 5 years ago, something perfect to listen to as I did my C# assignments in college. Here I am now, finally training for my new IT job as a software developer at the company I spent 2 years simply in data entry. Whoever you are out there, dont give up. You'll get there eventually.
How to make synthwave: 1. Find a cool synthesiser that sounds like one from '80s. 2. Add lot of delay and reverb to the synthesiser. 3. Add some low kicks and small snares. 4. Add something like 808 or little distorted bass. 5. Add glide synth witch fits with your 808/LDB. 6. Add some noise and, if you want, tambourines. 7. Make some catchy and chill melody. 8. Synth everything into one big track. 9. Copy + paste eveything few times. 10. Change some parts so your track isn't the same at every minute (for example delete bass for a minute and add something else). CONGRATULATIONS! You made your own synthwave! Now enjoy rest of your day drinking coffee, tea or whatever you want.
That's sounds a lot like making music. Except I could do the same with an AI prompt....Or....solder up a few oscillators, filters, and spring reverb like lookmumnocomputer did and try doing the same at a live show...now that's cool.
@@ianian4162 A lot of people think cyberpunk is just an aesthetic or a certain kind of technology. Really it’s a critique on capitalism and corporate rule over our lives
@@EggEnjoyer It can be, but not necessarily. Cyberpunk, like any post-modern genre, is a mixed bag o f numerous themes, aesthetics, and atmospheres. It can be whatever you want it to be. If I take an aestheticist take, then that's just my interpretation. To say nothing of "post" - Cyberpunk, which is even more nebulous. No need to gatekeep. Besides, I wasn't making some sort of grand, genre-defining claim - I merely quoted one of the primary figures of literary movement.
@@ianian4162 I’m not gate keeping, that simply what the genre is. The dude who made the genre is still alive. It’s a well defined genre. If it doesn’t me those credentials than it isn’t cyberpunk, I mean this goes for al genres. All genres have credentials to meet. You can’t have a romance novel with no feelings of love or passion. You can’t really have a cyberpunk story without the presence of class inequality and runaway capitalism. This is what delegates cyberpunk from other sci-fi. Body modification is not inherently cyberpunk, cyberpunk doesn’t own body modification or retro future designs. It only ones one thing and that is the critique of capitalism through a sci-fi lens. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cyberpunk I just feel a lot of people miss this messaging that’s in all of the cyberpunk media that they consume.
I don’t listen to music while doing these things. It’s way to distracting. My mind start to wonder and I’m in a half-dream state. It’s not productive at all, unless I want to be creative.
is there any street with blue and pink neon lights? if there is one day in the night ill have to walk in that street and listening to this masterpiece while it's raining
As it happens, I got an ad for this video, that answers this particular question. I wonder if the neural network of youtube picked it because of your question and others mention of neon city lights. So I think you want to go to Busan, South Korea. Maybe I'll get the money for that. Eventually.
(0:05 with music) I entered the bar, an attack of neon strobe lights assaulted my eyes. Smugglers, criminals, androids, and people from all Reaches of night City came here to the Nova club to watch the dancers, drugs, or having a good time. I sat at one of the tables closest to stage. Enjoying the show, I looked around to see who else was having the time of their life. I saw a woman with hair as crazy and as colorful as the city skyline. Tattoos of neon design ran up and down her arms. I saw to my left and man with a synthetic arm and piercings all over his face nodding his head to the club music while tinkering with his robotic limb, and people as usual high on Blue Glass. The music died down and things got quiet. I became confused wondering what happens next. The song resumed, as the beat dropped, the ceiling opened up and dancers floated down swinging on levitating poles flaying their colorful ribbons while descending to the stage. The club went into an uproar of satisfaction and entertained screaming. I soon found myself doing the same and I became part of the clubbing experience. you know for a while you forget that night city is the most dangerous city in the world but still, everyone wants to live here i know why now. This was the feeling of the century. can't wait for cyberpunk 2077 baby.
I like how every one of your mixes you publish just manages to hit every note just right, They never feel empty or like they are missing a piece. keep doing what you are doing dude, its good shit!
I like to imagine listening to this music in a potential future, a future where technology has expanded our knowledge and understanding, where we are all connected but so far away from eachother. Much like Cyberpunk, big cities, large buildings, grandiose dreams, and expanding habitats.. I try to escape the clutch we´re all trapped in.. I remember my past, when I had a future.. Riding on my lightcycle or my cybertruck through the night, immersed by the landscape, far away from modern cities, connecting with nature and past agriculture, to the the last settlements true to human nature..
Dude I connected with this so hard. You found a way to put into words what I have always felt about futuristic music like this. Hopefully, one day we’ll live long enough to be in a world that has been engulfed in technology.
i can smell the rotten flesh of those who didn't make it while feeling the radiation burning my face and hearing the screams of the desperate souls trying to do anything to continue their legacy.
I never get tired of synth/vaporwave, it's truly magical music for me. It makes me homesick for a place I've never been and can't even name, long for memories I never even made and nostalgic for a time I never lived. Now if that ain't magic, I don't know what is.
This is the playlist that got me hooked on Synthwave and the one I keep coming back to. Thank you for putting it together and to all the featured artists.
This isn't old music it's now a days music. SynthPop always existed, but this? This is SynthWAVE. A different approach (it's relaxing) and more modern. Synthwave is litteraly a product of the 21rst century music that was inspired from 20th century sci-fi movies.
not you acting all high and mighty over a genre that came from music that is made to purposifully sound bad... gross vapowave came from slowing down already existing songs, the whole idea that it is the thing thats a dead trend, it's supposed to be eerie and liminal. synthwave is the merry marriage of that with cyberpunk, which depicts an industrial uber dystopia. none of that is, say, musically complex. just saying, being the person that says "every song genre is bad but the one i listen to" is gross, and it makes you look stupid. it makes you look like an old man that no one talks to because youre just so arrogant.
I discovered your mixes with this video and I loved it. I have to admit this one is my favorite. When I stay late at work, or want to chill playing video games at night, this is just perfect. I work at La Défense in Paris, and when you leave late at night, there is all these lights outside, giant buildings, a smell of future .. this mix is just perfect. Thank you.
This was a great mix, but for those wondering about the second song "swell", it's not on RUclips for 2 reasons. 1. The artist is house plants, not SHAP3S and 2. he is only on SoundCloud. I was super confused about it too, but I finally found it on SoundCloud
(i was listening to 38:00 so maybe that track fits to this text) Listening to this I think about how we view the world as a thing that we understand. We look at a city for example and say "That's NYC. Central Park is there and that's the Chrysler Building. But imagine waking up 300 years in the future in a place you don't know. A place entirely alien to you, and where everything is novel, unrecognisable. Nowadays we count on knowing where we are and how to deal with that. Hearing these wavy synth tunes I imagine walking out the hospital doors, and not being greeted by my childish imaginations of a utopian world of technology and luxury, but rather by all the faults you know humanity to suffer from. And yet it is all on a much grander scale. You're lost in this megalopolis. A world of people hastily walking down the streets, cold and ignorant to your plea for directions. You don't even get a cold stare. A city of a world and a world of a city. As the sun sets and the sky turns blood red, unlike the dark orange you've known for your entire life thus far, not fear but a feeling of blissful helplessness sets in. How has the world come to be this way? But you ask this not because you think it to be bad, but rather you wonder and ponder about the 300 years that have passed... I won't elaborate this further because really what I want to give unto you is this... feeling. I ask you not to read this as any ordinary text but rather put yourself in this situation and really stop now and again, listening to the music in the background and vividly imagining this and what it means for you personally. I'm going to enjoy these dreams...
change is just becoming so fast left us stressed and afraid struggling to have our own place and forgetting to have a room for others. I don't know if this is a bad thing or not but I am sure it is not what I am looking for.
I was designing a city for a game that I'm going to make at some point when I finally decide to learn c#. I was listening to this while making it and realized it didn't have a name. It's supposed to be a cyberpunk-ish utopia. I realized the name CyberCity fit with the theme I was going for. So now there's a city named after my favorite of your videos. Edit: I think I'm going to make c# my goal for next summer. I'll learn how to 3d model gradually over the school year.
anyways listening to this at night in the dark projects my spirit hundreds of years into the future to a teenager lying under a glass ceiling looking for the stars hidden in the indigo haze of the city lights while skycars fly past overhead

I put it on loop to complete homework and it's just the right amount of upbeat and chill to get work done. Thank you Odysseus for this great compilation!
I used to listen to this mix almost every day 6 months back, but then I took a break for a while. Coming back and listening to this again floods me with nostalgia.

there might be multiple reasons a person clicks on this video.
some want a soothing track to lull them to sleep. to those people: leave the comments and get the rest you deserve. sleep well.
some are lonely or are feeling very sad. to those people: all pain ends eventually. the good will come soon enough. you can do this.
some may be studying. to those people: leave the comments, I wish you good luck, you’re going to do amazing.
some can’t stand the silence and the thoughts and tears that accompany the silence. to those people: take a deep breath in. now exhale. now say, “I’m fine. I will be fine. I am in control. I am okay.”
to anyone who is reading this right now, i love you. and so do many others. you have nothing to worry about. take a breath and appreciate the good things about this world. everything is and will be okay. you’ve got this. and i love you.

Cold. Optimistic. Tranquility. Advanced.
Perfecto
'Cold ' really suits here
I see this as an absolute victory

Welcome to the fun!!!!
How to make synthwave:
Except no

Can confirm, this is literally what you do.
That's sounds a lot like making music. Except I could do the same with an AI prompt....Or....solder up a few oscillators, filters, and spring reverb like lookmumnocomputer did and try doing the same at a live show...now that's cool.
"Cyberpunk is now. It's just not evenly distributed."

Statements like this make me realize that people don’t understand what cyberpunk is or what it fundamentally stands for as a genre
@@EggEnjoyer well then, would you care to enlighten me?

I love this comment section. All of us hope for the same thing

Rap wouldn’t even be that bad if it wasn’t swearing simulator
not you acting all high and mighty over a genre that came from music that is made to purposifully sound bad... gross
vapowave came from slowing down already existing songs, the whole idea that it is the thing thats a dead trend, it's supposed to be eerie and liminal. synthwave is the merry marriage of that with cyberpunk, which depicts an industrial uber dystopia. none of that is, say, musically complex.
just saying, being the person that says "every song genre is bad but the one i listen to" is gross, and it makes you look stupid. it makes you look like an old man that no one talks to because youre just so arrogant.

Kai Hinterfeck Make CyberMonk great again
