What we also have is ‘clothes poles’. Previously I had a long piece of wood with a notch at the end to push the clothes line up but now I have metal extendable ones. The line is higher and taut and heavy items don’t weigh down the line. Also allows larger items like sheets to dry quicker because you don’t have to double them over.
@@1806StoneHouse I was going to comment the same. We had props for the clothes line when I was a kid way back in the 50/60s. We lived on a dairy farm so had a lot of room. Our clothes line went around in a sort of triangle. Always make sure you have your line propped up out of the way when not in use so you don't run into it. My brother ran into ours, he was running, and it sat him on his bum pretty hard. From memory he had a line on his neck for a while.
Clothes props can be used to harvest apples and pears without a ladder. Just put the notch around the stalk and twist. If it doesn’t come easily it isn’t ripe enough yet.
Them their clothes lines are a Masterpiece and I am not kidding. Beautifully done. The clothesline is a piece of art. I love it! Best one I have ever seen. Wow!
@@1806StoneHouse That makes perfect sense. I grew up with a clothesline, my kids didn't, so I didn't even think that it was so your kids could assist with laundry (I had to bribe and then threaten to get mine to help with laundry!).

I had removable poles that were inset into pipes slightly below ground; made for easy removal for yard work and for storage during the months when not in use. Living in Arizona I had a different system of retractable lines going from the patio posts to the block wall.
I rarely see a clothesline in Arizona, well, at least in the Valley. Mostly because HOAs don't allow the hanging of laundry in the open, and secondly, you'd die in the summer heat hanging your laundry. I wake up before sunrise to get my lawn duties done because by 10:00 a.m., it's way too HOT. Right now, 7:56 p.m. it's 103° F outside.
Sarah’s sister in Texas can’t hang laundry either. Seems kind of funny because it would dry fast and save a lot of electricity. I can’t imagine that heat though…..wow
Another line for airing blankets and quilts. When there is a wonderful day, sunny warm and breezy. l like to wash lots of things on beds and the linen cupboard.
I lived in a house that had a clothes line on the wrong side of the yard. We dug up the poles, not an easy job, and moved it to the other side. Then the next house the poles were in a great spot, and then a tornado came through the back yard and bent them to the ground.

And when the kids got home from school I had an overwhelming need to go to the recycling center on the other side of town. So we were over there out of danger when they all hit. While I was driving the rain was so bad I started to pull over several times but then it let up and I kept going. Every place I was going to pull in there parking lots to wait out the rain got hit. It was a giant Thank you Jesus day.
I do love the style of these clothes line poles. So much nicer than the metal T bar ones. Had you thought about using the reels where you could stand in one spot, hang something, reel it out, hang another thing etc. Makes for quick hanging and taking off without having to lug the laundry basket. Nice. I think I would have put the clothesline off the back porch though so you stand on the porch to hang the clothes up and pull the clothes back and forth. That way you'd of only needed one tall pole. We have a double clothesline that goes off our back porch and instead of walking out on the grass and along the clothesline to hang the clothes I stand on the porch and move the clothesline on the wheels. But maybe you didn't want the clothesline back there.

That sounds like a great idea! Maybe that would work for hanging clothes on the deck. Retractable and removable is brilliant.

I love to air dry laundry. My youngest had allergies, so I stopped hanging laundry outside, bringing the pollen in was a bummer.

They are handy. A few people had some great suggestions for retractable lines and also poles set into the ground that can be removed.

That's a good idea. Maybe an additional line above the hand rails for the days of not so good weather.

Very posh clothes line, mine is a little more low tech, it's a reel line and I just run it out when needed and it rewinds when not in use,

They are cedar. The kind of wood that is very rot resistant.
