That was very instructive. You showed each step well, especially with the tightener. Thanks. I'm hoping to put one up this Spring.

thanks for taking the time to comment, glad it helped
Nicely done, I really just needed to know how to use the tightened, my line has been up to 20plus years and got accidentally cut with some tree trimming- couldn’t remember how to make that little gadget work! I kept trying to push it in instead of pulling out. A little wD40 and your video later and my new line is up and ready to use! Thanks!
Awesome, thanks for the comment.
Nice. I'm making one like it.
Great video thank you!!

The very similar tightener I purchased states on the label that they are not recommended for vinyl covered wire clothesline probably as the hard surface is not effectively grabbed by the tightener mechanism.
Using a cotton braided line with no issues, line is still tight and easy to retighten if it needs it
Good video easy to understand
Thank you
Thank you!

Fantastic

How to rethread a clothline pulley that I cannot get at?
Thanks for the quick tutorial! It's ironic to use modern technology (computer/RUclips) to set up a centuries old technology!
lol indeed
Synchronicity!
Good video.
thank you.
This is great but how do you do it without the tightener?
Thanks (!!) ...

I have a similar set up. How the he k do you stop the clothes (on bottom wire) flipping over and getting stuck wrapped around the top wire rope? I've tried spacers, weighting bottom of clothes with clips etc. This happens more often with pillow cases, towels, large sheets etc. The wind here on west Australia tends to change direction a lot over the day.
I purchased one of these clothes line tighteners after watching your video (from the link) and when I thread the (standard cotton) clothes line as you showed the ball bearing do not grip the cord. I also see ball bearings outside the inner ring. I'm guessing its defective so I requested another - hopefully that solves the problem as there is no way this gadget will tighten much less hold a line. So far the exchange is no problem.
yes, try another one, if should just grip the clothes line and keep it from moving. Ofcourse make you bought actual clothes line.
@@daP.A Thank you for the response! I did buy a standard clothes line 3/16" x 100' cotton. The replacement tightener is already on the way.
Thank you for sharing & teaching. It would have been helpful if you showed how to tie the knot. I am a women not familiar with such things but all the same you helped me to do MY clothes line, God bless you!
Check out the library, or RUclips!
You asked where I was located. I'm on Prince Edward Island in Atlantic Canada. We got hit pretty hard by Fiona. But my clothesline is up !! Just a little squeaky...I'll have to oil the pulley.
Glad your ok, thanks for getting back to me.
Great video. Is it possible to take the rope down? I’d like to take down when we have visitors in the garden or children? Would I just feed through the rope tightener?
The rope tighter is more of a permanent thing. But you can remove it just untie it from the tighter loop. I would go with a static line using a hook and turnbuckle on either side. Much easier, just hook it on and off.
Look into those retractable lines you can buy at hardware stores. In my old house - when I was married and my children were still at home - I had three.
They were nice to be able to “disappear when the wash was done and people were visiting.
🥰
How do I fix a pulley clothesline that won't move? I can't seem to find the problem. Thank you!
Look at, see if something is stuck in it, if rust spray a lubricant
Wait wait wait what if I have everything but the clothesline tightener? can you explain to me how to do it like if it was way back before that little thing had been invented?
You can just make a squat knot, or look up other knots, but that rope will continue to stretch a little bit all the time.
It’s worth ordering one, if you can’t find one at a store nearby.
@@moremerry57 ok makes sense. Thanks 🙏
Here is the thing. I want one end to be in a tree that I can't climb. I can throw a weighted line through a fork in it. But I have to be able to get the pully wheel up into the tree without going up into the tree.
Ladder??
This might be a case where a bit of money is well spent: if you haven’t got a good neighbor you trust to do this for you, hire someone just to attach the piece WELL up in the tree.
It’s less than an hour’s work, and you should never have to fuss w/that again. 😉
My tightener will not stay
A 25 lb line tightener isn't very much with wet laundry!
go 50 lbs
First 0:02 0:38
25 lbs? That's not very many pairs of wet jeans!
get stronger cord, but its fine for the avg person, plus I mainly use it in the summer time when there's less jeans.
That’s was my concerns too; although most of my “jeans” have grown up and moved away. 😉
Good to know you can get ones for heavier loads.
