I don't think high handicap golfers would ever be able to tell if a club is fake unless they're able to compare with the real deal. Some years back I purchased a used set of TM Burner Plus irons for only $A60. I had no idea if they were fakes or not but I hit them reasonably well so was happy with my decision. They had numbers stamped into the hosel but i could never match these up to anything on the TM website. I still have them and take them out for a round regularly.
Great vlog Gary I'm from Australia and love your content. 😊
Cheers Bob
Incredible how cheap they can make a
Golf club if they want too.
Gaz would be really interesting if proper shafts were put in the fake clubs. It’s really good to see vlogs like this as most golfers wouldn’t know the difference. As consumers we have become tackle tarts and believe the hype from manufacturers. Most clubs now are well over priced in my opinion.
I know it’s what everybody wants to see, i will put them head to head with real, re shafted and not re shafted. It’ll just be a few weeks, but I promise!
Yeah exactly my thoughts, they are just casted anyway so that's what I said just change the shafts
I watched some American guy change the shafts and compared them with the real same results, so it just proves the point fake iron heads are just casted, just sort the lofts out bobs your uncle
@@garymartingolfthanks gaz that’s what we need
Gaz, I have a mate who has a fake set of M6 steel shafted irons from Wish. I have used them a couple of times and here are my thoughts. 1. I can't tell they're fakes, but I've never looked at a genuine set of M6 irons. 2. When I hit it out of the middle it feels good and goes a very similar distance to my own normal irons. 3. I don't swing it fast enough or consistently enough for the fake irons to really impact my game, if it goes miles right it's me. When I see James Robinson or Rick Shiels review forgiving clubs it means nothing to me, I want to see a high-handicapper like me review them so I can see it through similar eyes to mine.
Wow, great feedback. Thats insane. I really do need to do more videos with high handicap golfers, it’s great to have two different perspectives. Neither of us are wrong, all we can do is be honest 👌🏼
Well done to Rob for doing this , must be daunting for a high HC player. As a fellow high HC I'm not sure I could put myself up for such scrutiny. I did think you went a bit early with the reveal Gaz but you couldn't wait 😁
4:44 that's crazy!.!.!. 😂😂😂
Whippy 😅
i hit some fake taylormade p770s with steel shafts. i hit 7 iron real and fake on trackman and the fake club was carrying 4 yards further on average with 600 to 800 rpm more spin and a lower launch angle. tested 4 iron and p wedge all same results lower launch higher spin further carry on the fakes. oh and we checked loft and lie before i tried them on range
Hi Gary Rob needs a club fitting with Sam. It would be interesting to see what Sam tells him.
That would be interesting, although, I do think Rob needs abit of work on his swing first in my opinion.
Funny to see he does the same as me. Practise swing nice back and forward, real swing way over the top. I do the same and don't know how to fix it.
When he can get upto where I teach, I’m going to try and help him. Hopefully you might be able to pick up a few tips 👌🏼
@@garymartingolf I hope so :).
Great to see Rob back on your channel 👏👏great fella.
Great video. Hilarious he was sitting on the headcover and didn’t realize it.
I know lol 😂
Another great show Garry, I'm with the majority, would like to see Sam put some proper Shafts in them and then let Rob have another go, especially with the pitching wedge, and again nice one Rob for getting out there, keep them coming mate.
I definitely can’t ignore the comments, this will be done, I’ll take these irons and a real demo 7 iron on my next visit
I guess you get what you pay for
He played better with the fakes than the Caleys and unless you told him he would never have known. I going on Ali express now to buy myself a set. Cheers
He definitely wouldn’t have guessed! Haha, the next vlog is even more crazy! Let’s just say, they’ve surprised us!
Great content Gaz… 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
You should let Rob keep that 4 Iron though. Line, distance & flight were A1; no joke 😎
He can actually, I’ll ask him if he wants it.
Didn't you mention that the iron heads were ok? So perhaps change the shafts if it saves 100s of pounds what's the problem
Yes. Readying by the comments, an iron reshaft video is coming 👍🏼
Id like to see them reshafted.. reshaft the 7 iron and do a head to head with the real deal.. that's what we want to see.
I promise I will do this, It’ll be in my next batch of videos I don’t at golf repairs 4 you.
@@garymartingolf I'm going to subscribe if you have the nuts to do this.
@@darinjenkins7954 oh course I do. The unfortunate thing is, I’m visiting sam 1 hour south tomorrow, and the p770 demo is 1 hour north, so it’s going to have to be my next visit. You’ve got my word though, love the idea!
@@garymartingolf Sam is a good demo but let's see some numbers, some data. You have access to that technology.. we want to know as golfers how much we're paying for just the branding. Cheers
It must be because the shaft is better for a slower swing speed.
Yes, I think the shafts actually suited him 😄
In 1984 i purchased Wilson clubs, Driver, 3 and 5 Wood £115 irons with dynamic gold S500 shafts £195, total £310, i have the receipt. Today equivalent Wilson clubs are Woods £600 irons £597 Total £1197, so 3 times as much. How much inflation in 40 years? Clubs against wages are cheaper now, it’s interesting that irons are considerably cheaper, but woods are less so. James Robinson makes a living telling you clubs are expensive, they just aren’t, and today we have direct to consumer brands providing great value, also main brands sell last years models cheap as chips. Think before you make statements
Being someone who’s played golf all my life and, being as invested in the sport as we’re, I do agree, but I guess when we’re talking to a wide audience, it’s quite easy to talk about the cost of equipment to play golf in comparison to other sports, as a big portion of the audience are social, beginner and less frequent golfers who aren’t prepared to invest like we’re into the highest performing products.
Yet they will spend more in a years Sky tv subscription
@@garymartingolf they don’t have to spend large sums of money, when i purchased my Wilsons in the 1984, new players purchased beginner sets, or second hand from the local pro. Also Petron were on the horizon. Beginners are now spoilt for choice, direct to consumer, last years models often less than 6 months from launch, various resell sites, the only downside is the local pro shop is in decline, so getting good advice is difficult. But if beginners watch RUclips they will believe the tirade of statements that golf is too expensive, this is counter intuitive as it puts them off, reality is you can buy a reasonable starter set for £250-£500. What is getting expensive is green fees and membership, having sat as treasurer of a members club, i understand how expensive managing a course is, costs have exploded, also re-wilding and or building houses on municipal courses is reducing affordable golf, there are less driving ranges as developers buy the sites. We don’t want to return to the dark days of golf for the privileged few, my first set were from a jumble sale, pretend hickory, steels covered in hickory looking plastic, paid 50p, my weeks wages as a butchers Saturday lad, junior membership in 1969 was £7 per year, shed loads to me, we had under 30 junior members, but very soon our town had three municipal golf courses and a pitch and putt, only one of these still exist.
@@Pud56 watching this space, it’s an interesting point. I do like it.
Fakes are easy to spot once you hit them. If you get fakes that play and feel the same as the genuines, and you got them cheap... play them.
You might think that, but a lot of high handicappers can’t tell if they’re fake, as they don’t have a pattern of shots. I’ve seen so many fake sm10 vokeys on Facebook this year it’s scary! Not going for fake prices though.
I would like to see Rob go and see Sam and try graphite shafts so he can really see which ones suit him best, I would also like to see some quality shafts in those iron heads to see how the heads perform with better shafts
Temu has a set of fake Black P790s and they look fantastic, for $270, but I assume they're garbage, very interested to see what happens when you put quality shafts in them!
It is surprising to me how sophisticated the fake golf club industry seems to be. It seems like so much trouble to make a fake product - that they could easily make a legitimate product of some kind. I hate all kinds of thievery though - I wish all of these fake club makers could be tracked and stopped. I recently got a great deal on a used set of PXG Gen 3 0311XP's. I think they are fantastic. Then . . . it dawned on me they just might be fake. Did some checking and I think they're legit, but had me worried for a bit.
Shaft flex is the biggest mistake I have found with golfers in my 65yrs on this planet, and many decades of fitting golfers for proper clubs for their abilities. A decent shaft to match the swing speed makes HUGE differences.
I completely agree. Size of cavity and shaft. Most commonly, people use heads too small and shafts too stiff 😅
@@garymartingolf Nothing in golf is new, idea wise. We have known what MOI was for a VERY long time. For average duffers, move the MOI as far back as possible. For irons, wider soles and cavity back heads, they perform the best. Add mass to the toe and heel of all clubs to make them forgiving. Why are fairway woods and hybrids coming on strong now? Go back in time and look at a niblick and a mashie and a brassie. They were trying to figure out MOI. Today, we have different materials and machines to make the equipment at the foundries better, yes.
Well done gaz 😊
Thanks Roy
Those are some of the worst shafts I have ever seen. Definitely better going to Golf Clubs for Cash, stay away from Temu and the like.
Lots of requests to reshaft them. Defeats the object of buying cheap if you do that.
Lol, shows the power of marketing - crap, er, average golfers have no business using anything but the cheapest sets - and using the savings for lessons...
Did they offer those with steel shafts? Should be cheaper and more consistent. 🤷♀️
They so yes. Cheaper.
Gary, it is very sad that someone would go through the trouble of making these.
People will not know.
I want them to know.
@@garymartingolf I agree. Very unsettling.
Sad? It’s more annoying making fakes and poor quality kit as knock offs but selling as though genuine. I would guess profit margin is way higher for these fake clubs.
While I like a bargain as much as anyone the pro I get lessons from his shop with an online presence sells at the same prices as the big web only sites in the UK. So there is no reason not to work with and buy from him.
i would like to see good shafts in them as well, i said that on james,s ,
How about trying the fakes with good shafts
100% going to be done after readying all the comments 🫶🏼
If the powers that be telling you that this years new driver will get extra yardage, we believe the hype. Same story about fakes your average golf can’t tell the difference 😢
This is a horrific piss take, classic when he hits the 4i far better than a real club
We don’t hide anything, he hit some great shots! I just can’t recommend them based on my own experience, however, take from the video what you see 😄
Would you give P770’s to a high handicapper.
No, but we’re limited on resources ☹️
Wonder if a woman golfer would know they are fake?
If you’re local, you’re welcome to get involved, but that title could rustle a few feathers 😃😅
Good follow up vlog, as new and higher handicaper's will get caught out with fakes like these 🏌️
