Hi Dave - Just bought a VWA12S on Ebay in the states. It installed it in my 2010 Jetta (Golf) TDI Sportwagen and it works great, thanks in part to your great advice. I want to use Carista but need to decide which OBDII dongle to buy. Do I have to buy one from Carista or will the one Eonon sells work with the app? Love the channel! Thanks!!

The unit is VW specific and comes with everything required in the box to work with VWs

Looks like a good one. Plugging in the cables is what I would wan't to see but I assume it's fairly easy.
The cables only fit in 1 slot, 6pin plug goes in 6 pin slot, 8 to 8 etc

hi dave, thanks to you i successfully installed my vwa12s into my 2012 golf, i am just curious, when i play audio through carplay the quality is pristine, but when i call anyone suddenly the audio becomes muffled and tinny. is there any fix for this?
I brought the G series. Front and rear cameras added. They are great units but slow to play media at start
When you say slow to play media do you mean from SD/usb? I only use Bluetooth for music

Dave. You hooked me up with the Q53Pro. I was able to change the background and startup screen thanks to you.
What are the stand out features that you notice and make it a worthwhile upgrade? Does this unit deliver more speaker power?
If I upgraded from the Q53Pro, could I keep all existing Q53 harness bits and just unplug then plug and play or are some of the connectors specific to the new unit?

The VWA12S is android 12 4g+64g, Oled screen. The Q53pro is quick but this is twice as quick, Bluetooth connects within 1 second of ignition, Q53pro was around 5 seconds. Android auto loads quicker, sound quality is slightly improved

Using the tiny built-in mic on the head unit is terrible and the Eonon-provided mic is better, but still not as good as the OEM mic on my 2013 VW jetta sportwagen. Any tips are appreciated!
You will need to replace factory mic with a factory mic that has 3.5mm jack...see link

Personally I have had no issues with the aftermarket microphone....mine is at top of A piller next to window
@@whatsdavedone104 Thanks for the quick reply. Was hoping to keep using the OEM mic, but it sounds like you basically can't use a powered mic with any aftermarket head unit. I'll play around with the aftermarket mic location and if not satisfied will check out the mic you recommended that can slot into the OEM location near the sunroof controls. Thanks again!

Im wondering why the adaptor for the Factory GPS doesnt come in the KIt? I specifically asked a question to them relating to the connection beforei purchased and was told its plug and play???
Having removed the factory radio the factory mic no longer works due to break in canbus system.
It comes with its own GPS antenna, so yes plug and play, as most VWs don't come with factory GPS, it was an optional extra at factory along with Bluetooth module etc

a question: @ 9:40 you show a connector cable from the DAB+ Stick into the car DAB radio antenna. Was that included or did you buy it seperatly? I bought the same unit and had to buy the cable extra (there was a sticky window antenna included) but unfortunately it's not working. DAB+ was main the reason I bought this unit, cause they switch off FM in Switzerland an some tunnels already lack of more than 1 FM-station...
I have dab radio installed from factory....dab+ us not compatible with android 12...download dab-z from playstore. I prefer layout of dab+ but there is no other option at present unfortunately 😔
@@whatsdavedone104 yep, I had DAB (not +) with my built in VW-unit and it worked back then (before they switched it off in Switzerland...) but it doesn't work with the factory app nor DAB-Z.
dou you have any description for that particular adapter cable? I bought a SMA to FAKRA. it does connect and lock but the signal bars are up and down like a disco light...
Hi Dave, thanks for the videos. I have just purchased the vga12s-6g for my vw Sharan. Di you have the link to the dab adapter cable you purchased to convert the factory fitted dab antenna fakra to sma and what dab unit you are using. I was worried that the fakra connector you are using us blue and from what I can see it should be a black one similar to what is on the back of the original head unit as the colur depicts where the slots are on the connector. Although the one in link comes with aerial you won't need the aerial....its just cheaper to purchase with an aerial than buying separately 🤷♂️ I use dab-z app for dab radio, available from playstore

It seems I can only have either android auto OR WiFi connected at a time.. so when I am using android auto wirelessly via my phones bluetooth, I have to physically go onto the unit and change it to connect to my mobile hotspot if I want to connect the headunit to the Internet. Is there anyway to have WiFi and android auto connected at the same time so I can switch between the 2 seemelessly?

Glad you found the answer....no unfortunately WiFi hotspot turns off with android auto running, it's the same with all units running android auto. Not sure why but it's something to do with android auto. Android auto is a completely separate function to the rest of the unit.
Question on phono connection for subwoofers. On the products page for these it shows one phono for sub out? presume I just use the rear outs?
I'm not 100% sure as I'm not running a sub 🤔

In youw video you were wondering why those 4G antennas are needed, as there is also a WIFI antenna and Bluetooth antennna on the cables.
Did you find out why the extra antennas are needed?
The extra antenna are only required if the unit is using a sim card in slot rather than WiFi hotspot

No battery issues after installation, it works with the car canbus system, unlike some cheaper units that don't 👍
I am going to install this in my Seat Altea XL, which original had the RNS 315 radio. The Seat has a usb port and audio port in the mid console (under the arm rest). Is it possible to connect these to the radio?
I also have those ports in my golf unfortunately they do not connect to the unit
Just got this unit installed in my Jetta. Got from Amazon which included back up and all of that. Just watched your install on back up cameras. Looks like eonon now will make me tap into reverse light. Does that sound right?
The reverse camera just needs a 12v supply, doesn't need to go to reverse bulb. I use the 12v socket in the boot. If you don't have a 12v socket in the boot you can use the blue ant wire on back of the head unit.....see video

I have just got mine and Eonon have included a 12 supply at the back of the headunit. I just twisted the wires together and put the rubber boot they provided to keep them together and act as insulation

Hi. Ive bought the Eonon 13 series and can’t get to make wheel buttons , heating etc working on tablet… I have a golf 6 2012 and came only with cd unit and a little display for parking, climate etc… any suggestion how to set al up or do I need something extra to buy? Thanks
Check all your wires are plugged in correctly, steering wheel should work straight out the box....heating only works with electric controls....sound like maybe your canbus box on the unit isn't plugged in correctly. I will be uploading a VWA13 video tomorrow

Hi Dave , I was watching your videos about eonon and VWA12S Head units and finally bought it but my only problem is the internal MIC, there is echo on the other side of the call, they always mention that they hear echo in the call. Is there any thing controlling the mic settings? Thanks for your videos and ur full reviews. Appreciate
Eonon will shortly be releasing an FOTA update to all A12S owner, part of the update is "improvement to mic sound quality" along with split screen option, adding android auto to steering wheel buttons (it only has carplay as an option at present) and ability to move reverse camera lines.....I have along with others ran a beta test for this update.
When the update is released to all you will get a prompt on screen, when WiFi connection is made, to download and install the update

Everything required comes in the box, providing you get the VW specific unit....there are extras like dash cam, DAB booster that don't come in the box but everything for a basic head unit install is there 👌

@jameswilby9381 personally I would recommend the VWA12S6G over the VWA13....it's a far smoother experience. The 2G VWA13 is is very slow and laggy, only really likes 1 app open at a time, not a fun experience 🙈 purchase directly from Eonon as you get 2 years warranty and life time support. No, VWA12S has extra wires for sim card and and 1 extra rca....you could probably use the Q53pro harness if not using a sim card or front camera for parking aid

I connect the red one with 12v for backup camera with my red wire cominbgg from the camera but I got no image on the camera do you have any solution to this
This is how I wied my reverse camera. If you don't want to rewire your camera try moving from 12v+ to the blue "amp" wire

No battery drain, shuts down fully so no battery drain

Genuine oem parking sensors front and back you are looking around £800 fitted and coded to car
Only genuine oem sensors will work with the screen

I use a Samsung phone, on Samsung you can set routines and modes. My routines and modes is set so that when Bluetooth is connected it will turn on my hotspot of phone.
You can also change the "sleep mode" of the unit so it doesn't reboot at every ignition turn on. On the VWA12S6g the max "sleep mode" time is 1 hour....unlike the Q53pro which is 24 hours.
Any idea how to calibrate google maps? And how exactly does the factory compass on the MFI tie into the radio? Is that where the fakra connector to gps antenna connection comes in?
You don't need to calibrate Google maps, once gps antenna is connected to the unit it will pick up your location.
@@whatsdavedone104 my GPS signal works but it says low accuracy and needs calibration. I'm currently using the EONON antenna. The fakra adapter will be here tomorrow and I'll see if that helps.
Have you checked Google playstore for updates, might be a Google maps update waiting 🤷♂️
@@whatsdavedone104 yes everything is up to date. Click your location dot on Google maps and it will show what your location accuracy is.
Fakra adapter did not correct the MFI compass issue. It's pretty annoying. Almost to the point of pulling the head unit back out and sticking the stock one back in there.
If I could find a way to deactivate it in the display then I'd be ok with that

Do you know how to turn off the auto volume when driving? Volume goes up automatically and turns down automatically when slowing down. Please let me know.

@@whatsdavedone104i am not a fan of it. It gets way to loud. It can’t be adjusted. There has to be a way to do it. On my OEM radio there was and adjustment.

Esp and abs....probably a bad wheel speed sensor or abs pick up ring....you would need to get the car scanned to find which corner is at fault

Go into factory settings, 126, and then turn AMP to on
The amp was already on. I did turn it off and on again but didnt work

Is it the Eonon Q53se? The SE only has 2g of ram the Q53pro has 3g....out of the 2 I would go for the Q53pro....as it will run quicker.

I installed this unit a few weeks back, have changed the canbus settings to vw (on my mk6) but no steering buttons work, aircon etc..

Why did you change the canbus settings? Should have ready for mk6? Is it showing reverse screen? 🤔

Reverse does work yes, but no buttons, climate etc
Go into factory settings, 126, then tap other, 9th down on list "steering wheel key assign"....is it set to "Can Key"? This is what it should be set to, not SWC Key.
@@whatsdavedone104 I updated the unir earlier, still nothing. Just took the unit out, unplugged everything, had a look, plugged it all back in and now it all works! Buttons, doors open aircon etc!

Torn between this and the 10.1 inch head unit
I just got mine installed a few days ago was working well until this morning the screen went blank turn on the car power and nothing happens. The power light home button are all on but the screen is just blank do anyone here have any solution
Press and hold the RST button, in left corner, for 10 seconds or until the 5 lights start flash, release and wait for the unit to boot back up.
Once it's booted back up, connect the unit to WiFi, tap settings, down to bottom of list, system, check for updates 😀

i just installed mine 12 golf and 2 issues so far 1. the factory compass is all over the place don't relay need it but the flashing on the dash is annoying. 2. the android car play is funky. i have to uninstall and reinstall every time i want to use it. some one save me.
With regards to android auto, I am having the same issue, works fine wired but won't connect wireless 😢 I have highlighted the issue with Eonon and they are looking into it.
Factory compass is all over the place because Factory gps antenna isn't connected to the headunit, you can purchase a fakra adapter to connect it to the units gps port
Eonon have sent me a link for a patch of android auto, not had a chance to try it yet. Need to be put onto a USB stick then transferred to the unit

It has to be usb, it can't be done over the air....I didn't have computer or USB, went to a mates house for them to do it for me 👍

I just got my today. 2011 Passat, and a canbus is not working. Not show anything, the buttons on the steeringwheel not working. AC not show nothing. Anyone have the same issue?
Something isn't plugged in correctly 🤔 check all connectors that run from the canbus decoder to the unit.
@@whatsdavedone104 i check everything. Im not plug in the extra AMP RCA, i need one usb. I just try now to change the canbus options. I try all VW. And nothing.. GPS, wifi speakers everything working, but the canbus not.

To me sound quality is better than factory due to built-in 15 band EQ so you can set it to your preference....DSP chip is also upgraded from the Q53PRO so sound is just slightly better than the Q53pro

Another question.
I have had issues getting a wifi connection for data from my phone as a hot spot.
I have been able to get that connection now by turning wifi off but it doesn't seem to support a wifi and bluetooth connection similtaniously??
Is this the case for you?
How do I get data and Phone resources similtaniously without having to physically switch between the two functions.

When you open Android auto it automatically turns off WiFi....its the same on all android units running android auto. Yes I to have to physically turn WiFi back on after closing Android auto.
I can not find factory settings in my head unit but it is vwa12 any clues why?
I onlybjave experience with the VWA12S, which is set up differently to A12....but it should be under the settings icon somewhere 🤔

@vaida898 app should be pre installed and labeled "CarPlay" .....swipe home screen to left and that should display all apps that are pre installed
@vaida898 sorry its different on A12, left hand side of home screen , middle icon 4 squares, tap that and it open "app draw"

No issue just won't be able to have dab....the dab booster and fakra adapter are cheap enough

Something won't be plugged in correctly....check wires to canbus box.
What car type and year have you installed it in? If it's a 2016 onwards Scirocco or Caddy you will need an MQB-PQ adapter
