Never was that into Mariah. Not the voice or the music beyond the earlier stuff. Of the vocal trinity(Whitney, Celine, Mariah), she is the weakest singer: she has the worst technique of them and the smallest voice. Her whistle notes are pretty crap as well. Most of the time they sound like weak, unsupported squeals. This is coming from a trained classical singer who knows what a whistle note is supposed to sound like. She had a 5-year voice basically where she sounded decent. Anything after 1995 is just meh. Whitney started her career in ‘84 and sounded amazing up until ‘94 - ‘95, then she got too involved with drugs and ruined her voice. Otherwise, she would’ve probably continued singing well. Céline is brilliant even today, at 53. Her voice has obviously darkened and changed, but she has the best technique out of the 3.

Of the vocal trinity(Whitney, Celine, Mariah), she is the weakest singer: she has the worst technique of them and the smallest voice.
Her whistle notes are pretty crap as well. Most of the time they sound like weak, unsupported squeals. This is coming from a trained classical singer who knows what a whistle note is supposed to sound like.
She had a 5-year voice basically where she sounded decent. Anything after 1995 is just meh. Whitney started her career in ‘84 and sounded amazing up until ‘94 - ‘95, then she got too involved with drugs and ruined her voice. Otherwise, she would’ve probably continued singing well.
Céline is brilliant even today, at 53. Her voice has obviously darkened and changed, but she has the best technique out of the 3.

@@christinaaguileralegend Beyonce is an entertainer, but she’s also one of the vocalists of the pop industry, MUCH above Christina who is a fiasco on a technical analisys. P!nk amd Kelly have better techniques than her and can do more with their voices, even not cracking all the time as Christina often did (that’s why she was called “the creator of Crack Register” some years ago). Whitney said Christina’s performance of Run To You was the best besides her own, not that Christina was just behind her overall. Even that performance was strained and made easier to sing because Christina’s ability couldn’t handle that song (even Whitney had issues doing it live when it was released and never gave it justice). Etta Tribute was horrible with all the strain and unhealthy raspiness Christina showed. Christina is called The Voice of A Generation because this was the name of a PHILANTHROPIC award she received for her social work, meaning she was the one speaking for the generation on those matters, not because of her voice.

Chaka should at least put some respect in Mariah's name, she was definitely a game changer for many singers today, and writing and producing her own music already puts her above most vocalists, she's also so respectful of the Divas that came before her including Aretha and Whitney who loved her btw. If there's anyone deserving to be on that list is Mariah.

Mariah is my number 1. Sometimes it is not about techniques, but the vocal timbre. Mariah has a powerful and angelic tone.
All I know is that Aretha DESERVES her spot at No.1! I have Whitney tied with her at the Top though with Mariah coming in second after them! A lot of y’all have not heard prime Aretha and just go off her vocals damaged from chain smoking from the late 70s till her old age! Some of her recordings from the 60s even have her singing while sick…you need to search up Aretha’s Columbia albums, especially Unforgettable (A tribute to Dinah Washington) then you’ll see why she’s the Queen. Whitney is INSANE TOO!!! Just an unparalleled Gift from the most high…surreal voice! The 7th wonder of the world! Mariah’s voice…let me not even start! Her angelic belts are unmatched!!!! Extremely skilled vocalist with the best developed whistle register of all time! Chaka is incredible too but I have her slightly below the three women stated above!✨
No I think some of them are just going off her vocal after 1994 or so when she started incorporating the falsetto in her singing.......Aretha still had many amazing vocals from 1980-1994 .

@@christhomas5761 Aretha had GREAT vocals after 1994, in my opinion! Check out her 1998 Grammy performance of her filling in for Luciano Pavarotti and singing Nessun Dorma; Aretha on the Rolanda show singing "It Hurts Like Hell." And Aretha's 1998 recording of "In the Morning!"

Whoever at Rolling Stone decided this list is tone-deaf. For Celine to not even make the top 200 is insane! When we are talking about the greatest SINGERS of all time there are certainly a few who should not be on that list. I would love to know what criteria were used to create the list. We're not talking about who sold the most records, or had the highest-grossing live concerts - we're talking SINGING, vocalizing. SMH
