That was a train tunnel (B&O). My mom (who passed away) lived in Westport and train maps from the 1940s show the line. That area was crime ridden in the 1970s (probably before that), I cannot imagine how bad that area is now. You are one crazy dude. Thank you.

That abandoned theater is the the Mayfair Theatre. That place is old as dirt, it used to be a bathing house back in 1880. It's sad that such a nice looking building like that has been abandoned for around 40 years.

actually the “steamatorium” was under the theater’s stage. the first indoor pool
in Baltimore was down there. i actually got to see it before it was buried. if you look on youtube, there’s a video of some guys who went down there. it’s fascinating.

The building has quite the history I'm glad that Zalhco will be redeveloping it

@@DanBellFilmIt it was actually called The Natatorium it was an indoor swimming pool and James Kernan had it converted into a music hall in the 1890s called The Howard Auditorium Music Hall until 1903 when it became part of his Million Dollar Triple Enterprise which consisted of three buildings in one combination (The Auditorium The Maryland and The Hotel Kernan), all of which contained rooms Barber shops pool tables a rathskeller underground bar an art gallery room and other fine entertainment. In 1941 The Auditorium became The Mayfair The Maryland was torn down in 1951 for a parking lot and The Hotel Kernan became The Congress Hotel.

For some reason I love abandoned theatres the most. This one was scary! I just whish you had crossed the street and turned around to show us the facade a little better or what's left of it. - The Proper People's double decker theatre in Los Angeles is amazing and the one where you met with them and walked in through one of the theatre doors over a huuuge pile of rubble. Aaaah, Vaudeville theatres. They have such a morbid charm to them. All the joy people experienced there and the hard work done by the performers and then most of them turned into adult movie theatres in the 70s and then closed for good in the 90s or so.

The shutters over the projection openings are because film in this theatre's original era was ridiculously flammable. In case of a fire, projection rooms had shutters which dropped over the openings, and the projectionist could shut a heavy door. The room contained a sink and toilet so that the projectionist didn't have to leave while a film was running. The big switches are indeed dimmers for the lights.

I can’t remember exactly where it was, but it was south of Baltimore, on one of the expressways going to DC, maybe 295, don’t remember. But when heading southbound, from Baltimore, it was on the right hand side, fairly close to the road, and you could only see it by looking back over your shoulder, to see the south end of the tunnel. I think there were doors on it. I’ve tried looking on Google Maps since then, but can’t find it. Don’t think it was too far south of Baltimore.
