- Captain Ken motored Aquarius to Trinidad, and started repairs on Aquarius. We buy another Amel Super Maramu 2000 and in the process of removing the masts to replace those missing on Aquarius.
Our Circumnavigation Party will be May 10th and 11th in US Virgin Islands, and we will attend the VIBE show in St Thomas May 9th to May 12th.

Epic solution. New masts are a 12 month lead time in UK ......I guess that's the same everywhere. You've struck lucky finding an identical yacht , tatty , a bit neglected that you can salvage the masts from. Good luck with the refitting.
Tragic that someone let a Super Maramu rot into a junkpile, but glad you found a set of masts. Hopefully all that cabin fixturing can find a home, too. Looks in really good shape.

Amazing you found that vessel, and amazing still, literally Friendship II was walked past be SailLife in this episode (Sail Life - Tips and tricks to Trinidad (as a cruiser)). But it wasn't for sale at the time, perhaps because you had just purchased it?? Either way, excellent find and idea to swap (move) masts onto your vessel.
Perhaps it's what Mads has in mind for his next project, it would be a brilliant choice and I'm sure he would love remasting her. The problem with the orignal masts is that the components are no longer readily available, and even some of the suppliers no longer exist. I'm sure Selden would put together an really nice upgrade and perhaps add more robust features, but all that furling gear is invaluable.
Good luck. Aquarius is probably one of the best maintained boats in the water.
NO! The Amel 54 that I did a tour of in Turkey! That is the best Amel on the water, hands down!

Fantastic you've found new Masks . Friendship 2 looks it great shape from the outside after the wash down. So you are taking the two masks off off friendship 2 and putting them on Aquarius which is great. THen going to sale Friendship 2 think you said you were going to try and find masks for her as well or sale with out masks) Good to see you back in good humored form. Hope the Admiral's doing fine. And will be here when you have another video. Goodluck with the mask refit and your reunion in May.
We will try to sell FriendshipII and see what someone would like to pay. I think with 6 months of work, the boat could look like new. But, need to find another set of masts to complete FriendshipII.

Who ever designed the rig did it so that if you loose the main mast the mesan will go also... oh why oh why. I woul add support to the mesan so that it can stay up with running stays etc. without the mainmast.

It is fantastic that you found a second Super Maramu to fix yours. I have been looking for an Amel Super Maramu that is more of a project boat. Could you tell me more about her condition? When you moved her over to the other yard, did you have a chance to notice if she was taking on water or any other major issues besides not going to have masks?

There is only one sea water intake on an Amel. Yes, I did check it!

Nice! -- QUESTION -- After the repairs, or boat swap, will there be an Amel SM just sitting there without a set of masts? Not sure what new masts cost but could someone "acquire" the left over SM and buy a set of masts and get out there? I guess what I am asking is this: is this a great opportunity to get into sailing and what would it cost to get that SM (without the masts)?
I'm sure you explored all avenues to remast. Did you have any aftermarket mast manufacturers quote you?
Yes, $120K euro from Selden. Would have been over my budget.

No, I put the main to the side to do pullups..
Why not take the rig off the other boat and install it on Friendship since Friendship is already set up how you like it? Then fix up the donor boat and sell it on?
Lot of work that needs to be done on FriendshipII, would take at least 3 to 6 months.

Living on the hard is difficult in the best of times, but when the boat is in pieces... It is really uncomfortable. I think Admiral Z deserves some R&R. She was the perfect Admiral during the ten days motoring to Martinique with two mast laying on the deck. I really want her to have time to relax! Ken
Can you really say you have circumnavigated the worldi f you took a short cut through Suez?
According to my friend, who is an Admiral, Yes you can! But, most of my friends that joined the Navy, never attained the level of Admiral, and they said " Absolutely NOT "! I would side with Admiral, just on rank alone. Plus, I hear they can be pretty cranky I you happen to disagree with them.

Personally, I think this is the most confusing video you have made. Not sure why you bought another Amel while you are restoring Aquarius. With three Amels having been dismasted, why would you still want another? Wish you well in your adventures!
