I hate to call anyone couple goals but they make me miss having insane creative chemistry working with other artists in school. I would love to have a dynamic like this with a romantic partner 🥺
Not everyone can cook with their spouse… it’s a matter of skill and personality most of the time. But I love it, and the El-Wayllys really work so well together that it’s a joy to see. It’s like watching people read one another’s minds 😍
With the way that Sohla and Ham plan, you can tell that they are truly “subject matter experts” not only in how they cook but also in sourcing what they cook, to the last detail. Like when they asked for black vs. white truffles and such specificity when it came to the button mushrooms. Amazing. A second observation, which is consistent across all of their challenges, is that they cook for the entire crew to eat. It’s not one plate just for filming but something all will try after. Such an awesome duo! Can’t wait for more from them.
@@bruisersdilemma354 Absurd. I'll give you three, and there are more. 1. Cooking while being sufficiently entertaining and likable to make us want to watch. I don't think you realize how hard it is to be compelling on camera unless you've tried it yourself. Don't be believe me? Record yourself cooking and put online. Feel free to do as much editing and as many takes as you'd like. 2. Knowledge and adaptability in a team environment. They envision, collaborate, execute, and adjust on the fly at an extremely high level, all while keeping it calm. Again, try doing this with someone you're close to and film it. I think you'll develop a new respect for the excellence on display. 3. Educating the viewer while pulling off all of the above. Sure, there are plenty of people (although fewer than you might think) that could cook a high quality meal with the ingredients on hand, but how many of them display such incredible generosity with their knowledge WHILE also pulling off the task? Note, I'm not even highlighting their cooking skill or understanding of technique, both of which are top tier. But hell, if you can do all the above or know people who can PLEASE get it filmed. We need more content of this quality out there.
Sohla and Ham are ridiculously talented. They’re also both a really cute & sweet couple. I remember when she was on the bon appetit channel (I don’t watch it annymore), the other professional chefs/bakers had to go to Sohla for help many many times, like she was crazy overqualified for that job. hope you have a good day
I want to tread carefully here, but I do believe this episode best demonstrates their exceptional talent to embrace experimentation as a tool for tackling both creative and technical challenges. I'm always captivated by their effortless capacity to overcome "obstacles" and emerge even more formidable as a duo. Without a doubt, here we've two great masters of their art.
Agree! Also do Sohla and Ham fully understand and appreciate what they just did? I am in awe. They made an AMAZING vegan meal which very few chefs/cooks/people have a clue how to do. And they did it in an hour!
I finally had the time to watch this just the way I want to... on my TV instead of my phone, with wine and cheese. This show is hands down better than anything on the food network. Sohla and Ham just get better and better together, and so does the filming and editing. ❤LOVE. IT!!❤
I love it when Sohla and Ham get a win, they create enough positive conflict without throwing 'challenge' at this fantastic duo of color. I always want more of them!
@@Nazioarteko89 Perhaps because when she worked at Bon Appetit, Sohla was one of the cooks that was heavily affected by racism in that work environment and was paid unfairly. The format of those Bon Appetit videos were certainly popular, but they were generally quite stressful and negative for the cooks involved, and particularly when those cooks were not paid on the basis of their skin color. So it's nice now to see that Sohla is being recognized and given positive projects to work on, as she clearly is an absolutely brilliant cook.
Full disclosure, I watch anything and everything involving these two; however, I particularly loved this episode as I happen to be vegan and LOVE all mushrooms. This was super fun and informative.
If you only had Candy Caps (Lactarius rubidus) for the sticky toffee pudding. They have a flavor like fenugreek with maple. They make great butter cookies and we even use it in ice cream here in Mendocino County (CA). I noticed they used winter chantarelles, which have a more earthy flavor than the yellow chantarelle. The morels should have been the star, IMHO, but what and excellent vegan feast in such a short time! Just found Sohla and Ham here, and it's so much fun! Thanks.
Awesome episode! I like that we saw much more of the part where they design the whole meal. It is so nice to kinda get inside their brains and understand how those awsome ideas come. Mystery menu is always a high point of the day.
As a private chef I really appreciate the communication level! It is so fricken amazing. I love the way that you make menus playing off of each other. Meanwhile my boyfriend can’t even boil water lol.

I really enjoy watching Ham and Sohla cook together. They are kind and considerate towards each other and that is great to see. Also, they did a great job with this ingredient.
Finishing each other's thoughts was really cute in the beginning! I admire how they approached their dissatisfaction with the salad and worked through its re-imagining so well together :D

(Look for Hermès mushroom scarf, especially the original woodland green edged one. It’s earthy and beautiful.) Looking forward to the rest of your cook :))
I have some farm market king oyster mushrooms -- usually saute them with some garlic but I love your idea of apple & red pepper. Going to give it a try!

This was one of my favorite cooking videos on YT! I love mushrooms so it was so fun to watch you two build such a beautiful spread built around my favorite ingredient. 😍

It's like they share a brain. 😂
Right???
they are both briliant on their own already but together theyre just scary

Lol. They ruined their business and made their restaurant go broke. Narcissism isn't goals.
This is, hands-down, my favorite ongoing NYT cooking series. It's creative, super wholesome, and just damn entertaining without being over-the-top.
