      @@GambleSmarti have played at a place where the machines are set at 92% payout rate for a little over 10 years.
      we only have low limit machines here as the high limit ones are not allowed here.
      i have i believe extreme bad luck, can you tell me if what's happening to me is anywhere near normal?
      here are my statistics:
      i've seen a total of well over 3 million in jackpots drop on machines next to me including an uncountable number of majors right after i left the machine.
      i've played lightning link, lock it link, dragon link and rising fortunes.
      on rising fortunes the grand drops on average once a year and the major 3 times.
      i've seen the grand drop twice next to me ( at 41k and 62k) and the major 3 times.
      that's 20% and 10% of the jackpots which dropped, which is a FAR higher percentage than the other machines which drop no end of jackpots...
      on the other three the major has dropped an estimated amount of around 15 thousand times in those 10 years, i lost count of the number of majors which dropped next ot me or right after i left the machines, but my estimate is around 300 times, which is only 2% of the total.
      the grand dropped 14 times on those machines next to me from an estimate of 300 times on those three machines.
      which is around 5%..
      i know of an old lady who only ever played 50cent bets on lighting link, she won the grand 5 times....
      friend of ours has won the major 3 times and the grand on lock it link, and he doesn't even play those that much.
      i have not won a single one of those jackpots...
      we go on average 6 times a month and we only play within budget to keep it sensible, which is the only way you should play.
      how is it possible to miss out on that amount of jackpots?
      is it even possible with those statistics not to get a single one of them?
      do you know of anybody else with this amount of bad luck, and no good luck at all?
      my girlfriend has played ligthning link for a total of around 6 hours in those 10 years, she has won a major jackpot... which with these statistics to me seems completely normal....

    You're right on all points. I've been a slot gambler for 40 years and a slot game designer for 15 years. But honestly, the slot industry has an interest in creating myths and making players believe they have control. Such players play more often, for longer, and lose more money than rational players. We have invented many nasty things like near-miss situations, perceived persistence mechanics, denominations and bet levels, progressives and much more to fool players into thinking they have any control. We are constantly thinking about inventing new techniques of such kind.
    If it was all about winning and losing, without any emotion, then we would offer a machine where you put in $100 and randomly pay out $0 to $1000 instantly. Without any animation and sound. No player would play it even if the odds of winning were identical.

      I have probably thee most diabolical idea for a new game that could and will change game design and mechanics. Might be a rat race to get there too. But I’ll probably talk to much about it and get it ripped off lol! So I’m just going to stop there. I’m not kidding, I have logos mocked up, I’m a professional Tattooer. Absolutely LOVE slot everything. I do love to play them, but even everything about them I am super intoxicated by? Honestly wanting to hault a 15 year professional tattoo career. I just don’t know how or where to start? I’m 37, I am very tech savvy. Just decided to start getting into coding, first step. Getting the ugly shit outta the way. Although im down definitely rather work with a company than create then sell potentially which would just never work?
      Are you by chance looking for new ideas on games and ideas to try to make your local patron happy with walking away with less money than they have expected to lose? You guys have already done this decades ago it’s perfect. I’m in the market to stretch that. And I have a way we can add a sprinkle of zest called confirmation biased. This whole thing Would be like a gnarlier moolah, nothing like it at all. AT ALL. Nothing like any other game out.

      I just stumbled onto this video, so I'm not sure if the term you used, "perceived persistence mechanics" is what I'm thinking of. While he was speaking, I was thinking about the many slots which feature a graphic of a pot which gradually fills with gold coins or such whenever a bonus symbol appears which doesn't result in a payout. This may telegraph whether a large payout happened recently or not, and feed the superstition that a machine is ready to payout, when in fact it has no bearing at all on the probability.
      Rather deceptive in practice, but probably effective. I wonder if it might balance out though if superstitious players will avoid a machine with a nearly "empty pot"? Or are the machines programmed to "fill" that pot after they've sat idle for a period of time?

    • @SK-bester
      @SK-bester 4 месяца назад

      @@ciabelle281 These filled pots, growing pigs or illuminating chains of fireworks are what we describe internally as a "Perceive Persistence Mechanic".
      The pots are usually triggered by a specific event, e.g. an incoming scatter. Internally, there is a probability table. For example, if the pot has 10 filling levels, the lower levels are filled with a higher probability than the upper levels.
      On average, the second last level is reached at around 75% of the trigger frequency of the free games, so that the pot is usually almost full when the next free games are won purely by chance. However, there is no correlation between filling the pot and triggering free games, only a mathematically similar frequency. If free games have to be awarded, all missing levels of the pot are filled.
      Free spins can be won at any time, regardless of how full the pot is.
      If the pot is almost full, the chance of winning free spins is no greater.

    • @generalwasteman
      @generalwasteman 3 месяца назад

      @@ciabelle281from what I understand, the only ‘pots’ that actually have some potential value are those with for example extra spins/wilds/whatever built up, and especially if they have a must hit by number, then you are probably in a better position than average. A display showing a growing item alone generally means nothing.

    I programmed computers for over 25 years. If there is a percentage payout, then there can not be random payouts. It has to be one or the other, but can not be both. If the payouts are random, and there are 4 bonuses. Mini, minor, major and jack pot. On a true random machine, then the bonuses should hit at a equal 25% rate. If you spend 1/2 on the slot floor, notice how many mini bonuses are hit as opposed to max bonus. You can spend 24 hours in a casino and not see a max bonus payout. If you are in a large casino with 3000 slots, you will see 10's of thousands mini's, 1000's of minors, hundreds of major, but not one max. The only random event is if the spin is a win or lose, after that everything is controlled by a program that keeps track of money going in and out. This program passes the payout amount to a display program. The display program then determines number of spins and pictures to be displayed. The pictures on the display do not determine the payout, be shows the out come. It may display line hits, free games or bonuses, but what you are to receive has already been determined.

      There is a random part and a non random part. Just like picking out a card from a standard deck of cards. The act of you pulling out a card is random, but the control is it has to be one of 52 cards.

      @JasonEmerson711 4 месяца назад

      @@GambleSmart a spectrum within a spectrum maybe? best example i can give is this: a bonus is going to occur, but the amount of it is randomized. is that possible? seems it's still within the 'rules' that casinos must follow with their states gaming commission to do that type of randomization within a controlled environment...

    • @user-tl6xz3yq9u
      @user-tl6xz3yq9u 4 месяца назад +6

      I agree. What I understand after playing for several years is the casino is required by law to give back a certain percentage of what they take in, but that doesn't mean every machine is set to pay back a specific percentage. One machine might pay back 150% while another is set to pay 30% of what it takes in. Trying to find the machine that pays is the hard part. For instance, my sister hit a jackpot on the same machine 2 times in a month and goes to the casino about 4 times a month. She always plays the same machine. That tells me that it is a winning machine that is set to pay at a higher rate. If you go frequently and just watch, you will notice the same machines tend to hit, while other machines consistently lose. After you figure out which machines hit, it's all about whether you sit down at the right time. What I am trying to say is some machines are set to never pay a significant amount and are set to only give you kickbacks. While other machines may appear to be eating your money and then out of the blue they hit a jackpot. That's why I put very little into a machine and hope I sit down at the right moment. Chasing is a great way to lose a ton of money.

      Yes! Thank you !! First expert to tell the truth here “ the ONLY random Event is if a spin is a win or loss but EVERYTHING ELSE is programmed “ !!! Thank you . This fact gets overlooked so many times !! They just keep Harping on the “RNG “ as a basis for the complete game is random but that leaves out so many things like the DESIGN of the machine.

    Slots have a random element but when a program determines a "payback percentage", they cease to be random. The program changes the choices the rng can pick from based on coin in. As more money is put in, the number of winning choices the rng can pick from also increases. This is done over such a long period of time it is impossible to anticipate results but these machines are not random. They absolutely make money for the casino.

    Watching you and Brantley has taught me so much. I've been gambling 40 years and have never had a handpay or a line hit over $400. I think some people have more luck at gaming, plain and simple. I have close friends who bet the same way I do, and log two to three handpays a year. Luck is random too. Recently bet $.40 and got an $80.00 line hit. So that is equivalent to an $800 hit on a $4.00 bet. Those are my "big" wins and I'm happy with them. Well, kinda. If you play small bets most of the time, handpays are going to be rare. I’ve only gotten one in my life, landed the highest progressive on Kronos on a $2 bet. I never do bets larger than $5. Doing larger bets will definitely increase the amount of handpays you get. If I played like many of the high rollers I watch on here that routinely do huge bets like $50 or $100 per spin or more, I most certainly would get lots of handpays. The reality of betting like that is that you will have massive wins at times but will have equally massive losses as well. I could bring say perhaps $10k with me, play large bets like that and certainly get multiple handpays. The odds are, I would still lose overall and lose big. It takes deep pockets to play like that.

      Not at all unusual for our brains to use pattern recognition to form our thoughts, even when we understand something is random. We can't really stop it because its subconscious behavior we can't really control. We can only override it after the fact. Many of us that understand it have these thoughts as well. The difference is we can override them with more logical critical thinking skills. That's why it so hard for some people accept how these machines actually work. They just accept what their brain is telling them about the patterns it is seeing.

I am a professional wrestler (gamble too) but going into pro wrestling I had to completely reset my mind on how I fall and take “bumps” because most people including myself was never taught how to properly fall on my back we tend to do the fallacy that we’ve seen from others or self taught that hey I need to use my hands or feet immediately when falling to catch myself when actually that’s bad it’s the same thing with gambling especially on slots we were told our entire lives or saw what other people were doing and saying like oh this casino has nothing but tight machines or hey if I fast stop the reels I’ll probably land it. It’s been nothing but myths and crap shoved down our throats to just accept it as machines are lucky and when they pay big stay away cause they won’t hit again for a long time. It’s just not true!! Us people who know that it’s just a world of calculators when you step through those doors know how to properly play. Convincing others that deeply believe it’s not will probably never come around and that’s okay it’s just like telling a hard nfl fan that it’s just a show. Well same thing they won’t believe. I’m glad that I’ve been gambling more and been much more successful because of you and cowboy slots. Never stop what you’re doing.

    Hi have a couple questions, how and who sets the payback percentage, can those percentages be adjusted via offsite computers or only at the machine itself?

    • @kevinb4079
      @kevinb4079 4 месяца назад

      The developers design each game to have a limited amount of payback percentages the casinos can select from. The casinos can have the manufacturer configure the machine with one of the available options before delivery of the machine or the casino can configure one of the options themselves. Upon delivery of a new game the gaming commission has to be present to verify and document the settings and seal and/or lock the logic portion of the machine that holds these settings to prevent tampering. Once the machine is approved and placed in operation the casino can push a configuration to the machines (newer games only) but this "package" does not get configured. You can think of this like downloading a software update. You can get emailed a software update but until you access your email account and run the update it isn't installed. In any case, to change the payback the machine must be unsealed and/or unlocked by the gaming commission so the menus that allow the change to be made can be accessed by a slot tech. Once the settings are applied the gaming commission will again verify and document the new settings and seal and/or lock the logic portion of the machine to prevent tampering. So to make any changes to payback there have to be multiple parties involved and they need physical access to the machine. These processes not only protects you the player from having the casino change these settings at will but it also protects the casino from someone changing them without the casino's knowledge and approval.

    One thing I noticed when I play my favorite machines at The WinStar which are Lucky Ducky and Red Hot Ruby mixed in with a few other VGT machines is the bingo showing possible hits patterns. It happens at each spin very quickly and the only time it has a chance to hit is when a pay pattern shows. It never pays if one of the patterns does not show and not always even if a pattern does come up. So why don’t all the machines have that bingo pattern?

    So, is the bet denomination on the slot games fallacy, bias or both. Since slots are just random boxes waiting for the right moment, what is the purpose of having multi denomination bets across the board. Seems that if you wager .50 cents at anytime you could win the machines largest pot. So what I’m taking away from this is random luck says to just bet low and have chance luck riding on your shoulder.

Even then, it might take a few hundred spins to go off. If it ever gets to that point, you can guarantee nobody is giving that machine up. The irony even then is it might be linked to other machines and an adjacent player might hit it.

      I'm sure they will cover this on this channel but Marc has already demonstrated this on other channels. It requires physical access to the machine and a gaming commission employee to be present with the key to access these settings. Don't let anyone tell you it can be done remotely. Besides, that payback % is a long term outcome that takes MANY (millions) to be fully realized. It's not like they can change it and the machine instantly starts paying out or taking in. The more spins the closer it gets to the configured %. The funny thing is, if they changed the payback % on a video poker game you could easily tell. What the hands pay would change since they can't change what cards are in the decks. This change would be completely noticeable to the player.

    Specifically for games like China Shores where you can win 1000 + free games.
    Or is it already determined what you will win after the original bonus trigger, even if you retrigger more free games?
    I've been told that whatever option you select to start the bonus whether it's the random Credit Prize, Free Games x2, or the free games x7,x12,x18 option you will get the same result. But thats not true cause sometimes the games gives you less or more than the range of the credit prize?

      This has been ask and explained several times in these comments. It's all about the possible combinations that are being randomly selected from and the probabilities of a certain combination being chosen. This is why the most probable outcomes will pay nothing or a small amount while the least probable pay more. The math of these probabilities is not predictable from spin to spin but over the course of MANY MANY spins the laws of the math used are very predictable. Yes, it's possible for machine to hit a jackpot 10 times in row but it is not very probable. Just as it's possible a jackpot may not hit for many more spins then the exact probabilities say it should. There are variances on both sides and over time as the machine is played more and more , those variances will average out extremely close to what the math determined it would be. The more the game is played the more accurate the math will become as all of those variances in winning and losing get averaged. The more numbers you average the less a very small or very big number effects the average. You may be aware of this from taking tests in school. The more tests you take in a class and score high on means the less effect a test you score poorly on is going to effect your grade point average.
