Founded in Italy by Mariarosa Dalla Costa, Selma James, Silvia Federici and Brigitte Galtier, the ‘Wages for Housework’ movement argued that the entire capitalist system was based on free domestic labour.
Witness History spoke to one of the founders, Mariarosa Dalla Costa about the campaign.

House work is one of the most underrated jobs in the world for which women are not given credit. It's time that this changes and we acknowledge the work women do at home for which they invest their time and energy and be respected for it.
Men doing housework are also not given credit.

Either way, it's good that this kind of activity brings the issue to the public's attention. But what kind of work should paying a housewife be considered? From the activist's speech in the video, it seems that housewives are a public service provided by individuals to the public, and if so, does the "charity" (i.e., the government) that pays for them have the right to supervise this work? If not, should benefits given as maternity subsidies be given a gender label?

XD yes... as long as the guys don't want to share the housework equally, the ladies might as well get paid for doing all the work... if guys can get their act together and help raise the kids by feeding them, changing the diapers, cleaning up the spills and accidents so their significant other can relax, I don't think this would be an issue

Sorry, but you shouldn't be paid for something if you're not actually doing anything that produces something. Literally demanding that the government pay you for doing chores, how ridiculous. Like a child demanding allowance for carrying the rubbish to the can.

So tell us how single people should be compensated for working a full time job AND having to do all the household chores themselves. How would that work?
And if people want to be financially compensated for doing household chores in a cooperative domestic situation, then half of the rent/mortgage and half of all the other expenses should be deducted prior to that compensation.
It produces literally everything, if women stopped doing everything they do there would be no economy, no kids and men would need mental therapy immidiately 😂 Of course that work should be payed since most men still don't try to do the equal amount or even pay child support. Maybe we should all just live without food, walk around dirty and go back in time 😂
