Very cool Cap. Amazing to see the storm force effects on that F-15 ! Very relevant considering Hurricane Dorian is heading to my region. Another great vid El Capistan.
you helped me to understand my girlfriend - thank you! quote"take things to the extreme helps me to get my head around it" - so all she wants is to understand - thats it! general wisdom in a special purpose video. 10/10.
Thanks for the vid Cap! I made my own but I dialed down the extreme to only 2000 and I was able to watch my Sabre fly so fast that you could see the wings twisting on the fly by camera!!!
At the end you mention flying backwards... I was in a helicopter that actually did this. We were flying over the hills from coastal Californian to the Kern valley to deliver a helicopter for crop dusting. As we began to crest, the wind seriously sped up. It was rushing from the land towards the sea at tremendous speed. I don't know the speed, but every time we rose up to try to get over the hills, the helicopter would lose ground. I thought it was the coolest thing, because I was a kid- and did not know how dangerous it was. More than one craft has crashed on those hillsides trying to get over. After each attempt, the pilot's knuckles would turn white on the yolk. Third time was our last, because he tried to rise even higher to get above the windstream- and it was just as fast higher up. We waited until early the next day when the winds still and then turn back the other way. It was easy to fly over them then. I had no idea how dangerous it was. Nor did I know the pilot had been in five crashes. (Crop dusting is really dangerous business.) This is the same guy who threw an M80 out a truck window and bounced it off the windwing frame- and into my lap.
Your videos are all awesom cap. I learn so much from them all. Keep up the good work. I would like to offer you one, very minor constructive criticism. If you simply paused for like 3 seconds between each point, it would make it tons easier to absorb the information you are presenting. You have an a good narration voice and it's easy to listen to, slight pauses would greatly lessen the need to pause the video to absorb the info. Awesome stuff.
Love the Mission Editor Tutes. If you want to make it very windy in one part of the Map then squeeze a Low (cyclone) between two Highs (Anti-Cyclones) to the North and the South of the Low - like propelling a lemon pip between your thumb and finger...... it's the differential that is important because the isobars (lines of equal pressure) get close together which equals wind. Thanks, Cap! Best, Pete. PS Yeah, well your example is more like weather on Jupiter....... I'm rather glad that you are not God.
Rotation would be which way the elipsis squashing would happen. You squash it one way, then rotate it. A high pressure cyclone and low pressure anticyclone will probably rotate the same way - as a double negative. Sonic booms should be a function of airspeed, which should be the same regardless of wind. Great watch though.
Is the static info actually irrelevant, or just irrelevant inside the cyclone I wonder? For example, if you had a wind of 20mph coming from the East, would that apply on the ground or wherever you indicate, except for areas inside the cyclone? That would be interesting to know... picture a shift from 20mph from the east to flying into a cyclone that has 150mph wind from the north or something. Pretty cool in any case.
This is just speculation, but I bet the reason they use x and z instead of x and y is because many programs export or import their models rotated 90 degrees by default, so on a global plane you're actually using the x and z axis because the world is tilted 90 degrees. It just looks like normal because everything uses the same geometric standard and the laws of relativity but if you looked at it in a modeling environment it would look like you're flying against a wall. Again, just speculation due to my experience with modeling programs and how things are sometimes coded.
Interesting, what will happen if you accelerate using such cyclone, and gets to speeds, much exceeding maximum airplane speed, and then gets out of cyclone into standing (slow) air. In reality, plane should break a part. It should be like hitting a wall, or shuttle, entering earth atmosphere.
And we would have to invent a new name for this. Maybe something like the "DCS dogfights from the padded cell" series. By the way, are there any observations yet on how the AI in DCS handles this light breeze with hypersonic rain?
*sees caption on thumbnail* wuteffffffffukk😂😂😂 Yeah remember those 17 raptors in Tyndall airbase last year, could've just checked on flight controls then put on runway and wait for hurricane Mike to strike aaaaaand lift off... And then somehow survive the arse and then land somewhere safe and damage minimal. But hey at least all the grounded raptors survived with the sacrifice of their tough arse hangar
I can move the low pressure systems from inside the editor, left click and hold above the centre of the base of the L and level with the middle of the vertical of the L and then drag it to move it, the click point must be tiny though because its easy to miss. Can't find one on the H to move those about so fairly useless information really.
Shoots, if you ever update this fly the the herc into that like the USAF does. Maybe recreate the conditions in The Perfect Storm. What great CSAR Coast Guard type mission. Can you change the temps of the system? Or is that not modeled?
This is an ELEMENT of dcs that's very under used and underappreciated.
agree
I see what you did there....
It is also another ELEMENT of DCS that has been poorly implemented half a decade ago and still sucks.

This is easily the most entertaining video you have published
15:46 Wind speed increases with altitude. Closer to the surface the wind speed slows and changes direction due to friction.
thx Sir
I love how crazy going backward in mach 2 and shot bullet is getting back into shooter.

This was a most excellent production, I voted it the "Best Wind Surfing" Video of tonight. :)

Cool, very cool. And yes, showing the extremes is a good way to understand what it is all about.
Gotta say this is probably the most fun possible in DCS
TOTALLY agree. We're gunna do a mission with 5000mph winds next week.
@@grimreapers wtf 5000mph?!?!?! Holy shit gonna need like [MADE IN HEAVEN] hax for this

Y axis is altitude above ground and/or sea level in case you were still wondering. Great videos!
That was actually quite interesting.

CAP stands for Cyclone Air Patrol

Oww super strong winds ... i always love to put some against the landing pattern and then land my A10 like a helicopter :P :)

Thx will put a correction in.
Airspeed is dependent on the wind
"Humanity equals Wagner" Like it! P
That's probably just hyper-sonic rain... Said so calmly.
look at that. 2000mph flares. how exceptional... lol

Scratch supersonic rain drops, supersonic wind will probably disintegrate you plane. It's basically a shock wave :D
Very cool.
Do you know if it is planned to integrate fx, like fog, rain,etc.. in the cockpits in a next future?
Fog being added, not sure about rain.
@@grimreapers I've seen a good attempt at JF 17, but none else
Did the dopler effect just affect the guns on the F-15? Sounded so high pitched when you fired with the wind.
it does yes to all guns

roger, obviously ED didn;t think anyone would be STUPID enough to do this...
Except of GR
Can you have a lot of clouds but no precipitation ??
I think so.

For more fun choose..."summer--snowstorm"
oooOOO
LOL only the Reapers can answer the question no one cares about : ) . Keep trucking cap.
WOOOOOOOOW!!!!
I didn't get the keys i need to press to convert it into x & z coordinates. Could someone please reply with those keys. Thanks!
We should try having a dogfight in this storm.
lol yes

You really need to load that again and then bail out. Would be hilarious to see how far it takes you.
the grid is in X and Z because Y would be elevation
Could you please upload a mission with a lot of clouds, but no precipitation ?
It doesn't matter which map, I own all of them
Thank you in advance
would like to see how to have no fog at take off and then fly into fog. can that be done??????
Fog no. Cloud yes. I am fairly sure.

This weather is a mod sistem?😊
Does any one know how to control the surface of water?
It is proportional to the wind.

H= anticyclon
L= cyclon
Never mind, just seen how old this is 😂
