    I have a oil related question...I have a 2017 chevy traverse... I switched over to amsoil OE synthetic 5w30....formerly used ACDelco full synthetic....since the switch it takes forever to get to operating temp ... any insight is appreciated...

    • @WhipCityWrencher
      @WhipCityWrencher  11 месяцев назад +2

      I think you have a separate issue. Switching oils shouldn't have anything to do with your engine getting to operating temp. "Just my 2 cents", but the first thing I would check. Are the cooling fans on all the time? Or is the thermostat stuck open? I'll pin your question so that it sits on top. Thanks!

    Looks very good to me at 5.2k miles, especially so for a jobber filter. Pleat spacing around seam pleat, not bad. This one made in the US, Fayetteville NC. Going to say most miles at operating temps, easiest on the filter media and oil. This is same application filter you Whip cut open unused and caused the price to spike on Amazon algorithm. 😀 I just checked, price is finally back down, might grab a couple before you cause another price increase. 😉Decent ~5k mile oil filter, as long as they keep it made in US. Moved Bosch Prem. went to Mexico and quality went down. Thanks for vid, have a great day.

    5:24 This is where I *categorically DISAGREE* , Pete!!!
    Filter Media absorbed a _LOT_ of dirt from the oil!!! And your review convinced me even more that 5,000 miles is the critical mileage for an oil /filter change.
    By the way, this inexpensive (but high-quality) filter with an obviously well-functioning pressure relief valve was a pleasant surprise.
    And...

    Today's cars are quite different from the Oldsmobile your dad used to drive. In the past, we could use paper oil filters because we were using conventional oil. Modern cars use synthetic oil, and it's important to use an oil filter with a cellulose element designed for synthetic oil. What’s Inside the oil filter is a filter element made of a specialised material, such as synthetic fibers or cellulose. This element has microscopic pores that allow oil to flow through while effectively capturing and retaining any harmful particles present in the oil. Many shops are unfamiliar with cellulose filters and why would they use them. Many shops offer special prices on oil changes as a way to attract customers into the shop. The issue is, they consider it a loss. The majority of shops only stock paper filters due to their low cost and are unwilling to invest the extra dollars for cellulose filters. It feels like a race to the bottom, with everyone trying to offer the cheapest price for oil changes.

    • @Andrew__Smith
      @Andrew__Smith 11 месяцев назад

      All of the above is complete nonsense and bullsh..t
      There is absolutely NO difference what type of oil you use in your car.

    • @BehindTheCounter_TFSO
      @BehindTheCounter_TFSO 11 месяцев назад

      Mr. Smith, your comment is open to interpretation. Are you talking about my dad's Oldsmobile? The fact is, oil manufacturers have designed synthetic oil to last for 10, 15, and even 20,000 miles. Paper filters are designed to last only 3,000 to 4,000 miles; That's why we opt for cellulose filters; they're specifically designed to work with synthetic oils that can go up to 10, 15, and even 20,000 miles before being changed. Have you ever heard of anybody coming in at 3,000 miles to get their filter changed? You know, customers tend to push their oil changes to the limit. In my world, there are no dumb questions, only misinformed DIYers.

      This is all advertising fluff. No one in a sane mind would drive the same oil fill for 10,000, or 15,000 miles... (On passengers car with 4-qt oil volume)...Well, maybe there is *some idiot* who believes that you can “get a vaccine” for the flu , or that that a mask on his face will help save him from death.
      As you can see from the video: ANY oil filter simply CANNOT PHYSICALLY last more than 5000 miles.
