Surprised how much your viewers like the STP.. I do too. Thanks for providing the sound effect for the coil spring which is part of the reason I watch your vids .. LOL 🤠
I've always liked the Premium Guard filters, especially because of the silicone gasket. My car runs very high oil pressure and has blown out a rubber gasket in the winter. Luckily I caught it right in time, I always watch the oil pressure light when starting. Still had my fingers on the key. The softer silicone gasket compresses more and doesn't blow out as easily. I've never had an issue with one. I also like the soft, pliable ADBV. I used to run the Ford Racing filter but they got rid of the silicone gasket and I moved to the Premium Guard XL. I have a suggestion for an oil filter: look for a new old stock Amsoil filter to see if the media before 2008 was really the Donaldson media. You can compare it to any Donaldson DBL filter. There were a bunch of really old Amsoil filters on e. Bay, last I looked. Make sure it's an EA series.
Oil filter Friday! the Endurance is almost identical to Royal purple, Amsoil and I think one more I can’t remember. Very well-made but wish the bypass was better
They are actually identical to the Amsoil EAO34 and RP. They are all made in the same factory by Champion labs. I use the Fram FE3600 and the Purolator Boss PBL that matches. I have cut them open side by side and they are identical. Bank testing here on RUclips has testing and ranking of all the most popular oil filters. You should check the testing out.
I would go with the STP! If you are doing regular oil changes and changing the filter very time, no real need to go with the FRAM Endurance. I like the silicone oil gasket and the silicone ADBV on the STP. Living in Canada when it can get as cold as -40F in the winter, i have more confidence in the silicone over the rubber in extreme conditions.
Great Video Pete! Both solid filters. I used an STP extended life oil filter for the 1st time on my daughter's Equinox for the last oil change. Couldn't beat the deal at Auto Zone that month on STP FS High Mileage Oil, an extended life oil filter and an air filter. I took full advantage of the deal on the air filter and grabbed one for my other daughter's Jeep Cherokee which usually run $20-25. I'm curious to cut that oil filter open after the next oil change.
I would like to see a comparison of the flow rates between the two filters. I know that it's not what you are doing on your comparisons. Hey, you can't have everything. What you do have here would give me confidence in either filter. Great job. Personally, I would like to see more pleats with the Fram. Of course that would mean getting rid of the wire screen backing. In my opinion, if the Fram had another dozen or so pleats, it would be a fantastic filter. Just my two cents. {Ok, with inflation, 2 cents just isn't worth much anymore.} Take care and keep these coming.
Another great comparison. I would use either one without any concerns. I prefer the higher degree of filtration over the lesser filtration/ higher flow of most standard filters for my personal use. Have a great week!
STP products are Good. Amazed China QUALITY. Sooo I am going to keep buying it. Always good specials with points in Autozone with STPc oil an air filters.
My pick is the Fram. It’s a solid filter and if Amsoil is willing to put their name on the same exact filter, then they are willing to risk their business and I see that as a win for me.

That STP looks to be the same Chinese/viet nam made PG EX. On Rockauto under “standard replacement” these are available under the moniker “various MFR” for under $5. I was using the Fram, but it is a weird size for the filter socket making it VERY irritating to remove.(Hoda Accord 4 cyl) I just switched to the STP, so we'll see. STP looks well made. So was the Fram, but the weird size pissed .e off.
Great Job, Pete, thanks for Sharing Warren! Despite being made in China and being made pretty well otherwise with good components, I'd take the STP. That bypass valve stuck in the leaf spring is a deal breaker for me. If it had the BPV in the canister or, better yet on the top end I would select it in a heartbeat.
I could buy the STP XL oil filter for $5.80 today at Auto Zone, if I buy 5 quarts of oil and an engine air filter at the same time. The STP XL is a good filter for the money. If I bought a Fram, it would be the Ultra Synthetic for $8.97 at Walmart. The Fram is the only oil filter that I’ve been able to remove by hand. I’ve used both. 👍
I think the STP edges out the Fram because of the spring, the silicon seal and because it does not have a leaky drain back valve, which look like the same thing Champ uses. I had a Camp made "Fram Pro" filter and I wonder if they are not both related now days.

The Endurance often fails the bypass valve flashlight test and is a leaker because the "leaf Spring" does not sit flush to the endcap. Much prefer the STP bypass valve design. Leaky bypass valves can & do affect the efficiency of the filter.
Would have been interested in seeing a flashlight test to the FE to see if light showed. My guess would be that it would. Until I see Champ Labs has corrected that design flaw, I wouldn't purchase one, The Premium Guard made STP XL, excluding that small excess glue area, looks good. The way the Fram's spring and bypass valve assembly uses metal to metal surface connection to the open center tube provides a poor sealing connection prone to passing dirty oil under pressure. This is the fatal flaw in most of Fram's designs...
