Having owned the Suzuki Ignis, would go for the Aygo X, it’s build quality and drivetrain is a step up. Something you might not pick up until you’ve owned it for a while
Ooh I wanted to go for Suzuki Ignis, just because I thought that it is more practical and has all the features that Aygo X has, and it seems has a better quality inside. Can I ask please, why would you choose Aygo X over Suzuki Ignis?
I'm an ex Ignis owner, I had the top spec with all wheel drive. It's economy was incredibly good in town, not quite so good at motorways speeds relatively speaking. And I think you would find that the Ignis is much faster than an Aygo, there are three Aygos in my family and they are really slow accelerating. But the Ignis is ugly and has a cheap plasticky interior. Incredible rear seat space though, in fact it's better than my Kia Proceed shooting brake and that car is 4.6 metres long! I love the look of this new Aygo x, but it is seriously compromised by a lack of power. Put a turbo on it Toyota, make it a bit interesting...
You asked who would take one on a road trip? I have driven mine from Gdansk to the Mediterranean three times. A little noisy at speed, but the car is comfortable and still economical cruising at 120-125, and super-stable. Suspension is wonderful. The radar cruise control makes all the difference! The CVT teaches you to drive smoothly, power is of course very limited, but it's enough to drive thousands of kms apparently - I average 4.9 crossing the Alps! Worst points are the seats lack of lumbar support, and the steering wheel's lack of reach adjustment. I bought an aftermarket armrest for mine. For the money (avoid higher trim levels, manual AC is fine and the lighter headlining feels more roomy), the car is a bargain in the current market. Very high quality, in terms of robustness, and a 10 year warranty.
My friend's parents drove a previous gen Aygo or C1 from UK to Estonia and back, so it's possible. I took a Fiat 500 from Warsaw into the Alps. It can be done. Would I want to do it regularly? No :)
Having owed a Duster and now an Aygo X... l find the drive better in the Augo X... the car is far more compliant on bumpy roads compared to the Duster. Remember, the base of the Aygo X is the same as a Yaris! The interior does not rattle like my 2021 Duster did!. Ok its certainly down on power compared to the Dacia but you do get used to it. I found the small turbo on the Duster engine annoying!! It would fidget around at 2500rpm. The aygo, although slower, is a smooth rev... at least until you rev it hard. I actually prefer the aygo to the duster... both cheaper build quality, but the aygo is better quality in this segment. Overall l am pleased with my Aygo X and the adaptive cruise control is actually great on the motorway. I agree this is a two person car... rear passenger space is incredibly limited, but ok for short passenger journeys and occasional use. Boot space is good for a city car. If your not a boy racer and drive sedated like myself, l think people will appreciate this incarnation of the aygo... It would've been better as a hybrid... but a few thousand would've been added to the price! Overall, you are incredibly limited in a choice of petrol city cars now, at this price. You have to live with these cars to really appreciate, or not, in the real world. Good review mind 👌
I have the previous Aygo model and have looked seriously at this one. Other reviews often moan about how this car is small and slow- which is always a bit of a foolish point to make because the whole point of this car is that it is small, and it has a tiny engine so it will be slow. I really appreciate your review being more pragmatic about the whole thing and this has helped inform my decision much more. Thank you!

I don't live in the city, but bought this car! I didn't buy it for break-neck performance or crying rear seated passengers, though back seat and rear doors act as a great 'alternative boot'. I find it comfortable, positive to drive, active cruise control and lane assist is fab, fuel eco great, varies from 50-62 MPG with me, depends if you fill up on E5 or shitty E10 petrol. Biggest gripe, no spare wheel, but I bought a space saver spare kit from Toyota for just £145, which reduces your boot space a bit - oh well!

No doubt they are reliable, 160.000km or 7year guarantee. I owned a 2007 Aygo, same engine, sold it with 170.000km with only yearly maintenance. I drove it on long trips too, all the way to southern Marroco. 8 years have gone by and I still see it being driven around. Too bad they are so expensive and the back seat so bad but you are guaranteed to have transportation for at least 10 years.

I'm not sure if I'm reading your comment right, but they don't have the normal Aygo anymore. This is the only new Aygo, so this one is now Toyota's only city car model, with the 108/C1 platform gone.
10:19: Why is it so "absurd" for people to go with a small car on road trip? First: The Aygo X costs less than for example a Yaris. Not everyone can afford to buy the latter. And the car is still better than every Dacia. Second: People went on Roadtrips with their Familys in Fiat 500s in the 60s and 70s. Third: Even I made with my 2007 Kia Rio (which is smaller than the Aygo X) Road Trips.
When I was 18, I drove the Fiat 126p. It was the best car, because it was all I could afford. Today I'm in a different place, and I can afford not to travel in a Fiat 126p.
I took my Suzuki swift on a 1000 mile trip and my spine was in bit after it, the redeeming factor was that it is a reasonable quick car for the motorway, that Aygo will get you killed on a motorway with how slow it is, no car should be that slow given how good 3 cylinder engines are these days if it’s fitted with a turbo. Shame Suzuki has binned the boosterjet engine.

I agree completely. Love the exterior design, but that engine sucks. I don't like how it sounds inside the car, and to get it moving on an incline, must be horrid. If really wanted an A segment, I'd go for an i10, Picanto or Up!
Shame Toyota are still using that same little engine with no turbo. If they enhanced the performance a bit it would appeal to more buyers I would think
Add a turbo and you increase the fuel consumption and reduce the reliability. The whole point of the design was to produce a small, inexpensive, reliable, economical and practical vehicle for driving around in urban areas. The Aygo X fits the bill perfectly
It is kind of brash of Toyota to not even really update the engine or give it at least a mild hybrid system while raising the price so much, as if Toyotas in general weren't too expensive for what they are nowadays. A Hyundai i10 is a vastly superior offering in the class lacking only really the adaptive cruise, which again I doubt is really a dealbreaker in city cars.
Still wondering, why no manufacturers in Europe uses kei car system, when you can slide seats back so much, that it creates a lot of leg room and even can fit a dog, or move seats forward to significantly increase boot space. If only this is the way to push you to purchase a bigger car…
I think the original Twingo had that. In the slightly larger segment a sliding bench was available on the previous Nissan Note. I think it's probably too expensive, too heavy.
If id be in the market for a car (Drive only in b and c roads) and manage to get 5.5 Liter with our old 1.4 Liter Volkswagen I would consider it for a test drive. I actually dont care so much about connectivity gimmicks and but Like the short turning circle and the General compactness of it But the price has to come down. That too expensive
so it's a fashion statement and nothing more. Id call it useless. This has nothing over the normal Aygo, so save your money. I agree with Marek, the VW up for this amount of money makes so much more sense. And if you wan tto save money, the Sandero has a lot more room on offer.

When I see cars needlessly getting the SUV treatment Aygo Cross too. I'm not sure this car brings anything to the table, especially at that price. Fuel economy isn't that great, especially compared to some of Toyota's own hybrids, and the packaging seems poor. Having seen what the Japanese manufacturers can do with packaging in kei class cars I wish they would bring some of those ideas to the west.

I am driving a Sandero Stepway for over 7 years now. This car is reliable. After 150000 km only tear and wear replacement. Tyres,break pads, cambelt and recently the clutch.Yes 150000 with the original clutch. The car was never fun to drive but i appreciate the fact that starts and drive every day for long distances. I thought the current prices for a new Dacia are too much until I saw the competition. I would rather drive an old Dacia every day than this joke of a car.
Its not a shame that there isn't an electric version it's already too expensive at £20,000 can you imagine if there was an electric version it will be nearer £30,000 for a low budget city car it's laughable.
I'd make this into a 20k EV, maybe a safer Dacia Spring alternative. I'm sure they have some unsold batteries from the pre-facelift UX 300e laying around. Cut those in half, stick them in they Aygo, and voila. And I know, it's not that simple.

@@MarekDrivesENG I would say it’s the mini. With the advancements in hybrid tech the smaller fuel efficient cars lost their appeal. Even in Europe these cars seem kind of useless unless you’re in a smaller Italian town. I always rented cars that were in the 3 series size when I visited Europe.
That's the thing... from European perspective smaller cars are just... smaller :) When Toyota first showed off the Prius in Europe everyone here was like: fuck that, my diesel Vectra gets better gas milage. Now when diesel's bad again, hybrids start to make a lot of sense, especially in places, where EV infrastructure is lagging behind.

In uk you need to wait Aygo X 3-4 months, and Hyundai 8-9 months.

What's the smallest car you get in Canada? I recall we rented a Micra to get from London to Toronto, and that was a scary drive next to all those semis.
@@MarekDrivesENG I would say it’s the mini. With the advancements in hybrid tech the smaller fuel efficient cars lost their appeal. Even in Europe these cars seem kind of useless unless you’re in a smaller Italian town. I always rented cars that were in the 3 series size when I visited Europe.
That's the thing... from European perspective smaller cars are just... smaller :) When Toyota first showed off the Prius in Europe everyone here was like: fuck that, my diesel Vectra gets better gas milage. Now when diesel's bad again, hybrids start to make a lot of sense, especially in places, where EV infrastructure is lagging behind.
@@MarekDrivesENG Over here, there are a lot of people driving these huge SUVs like the Escalade, X7 etc and I just don't get it. I've always liked cars the size of an Audi Allroad, or the new X1 or X3 at largest.
