    I traded in my Prius for a Yaris Cross, something I regret. The Prius had park assist, parking sensors front, rear and at the sides, so if reversing blind from say a supermarket car park and unable to see if there is anything coming the sensors would let me know. With the Prius I could slowly drive up to or reverse up to, say a wall and the brakes would apply themselves when I got to within 2/3 inches. I found with the Yaris that putting my left foot on the foot rest as it is not needed with an automatic car, I rested my left knee against the central console, this is very hard, I would hate to take it on a long trip.
    The main advantage the Yaris Cross has over the Prius is that I can open and close the boot with the key fob.

      None of them is particularly boxy. I'd love to recommend Suzuki Ignis, but compared to Honda it may feel somewhat agricultural. The Jazz Crosstar sounds is not much of an SUV, but I really liked the regular Jazz, so maybe she could give it a try.

      OK, if AWD is high on the priorities list, you don't have much of a choice.
      Panda Cross is no longer AWD.

      @@MarekDrivesENG There's nothing like an MX5 😎 My Kia was developed under the direction of Albert Bierman, ex BMW M division, and despite this and 200 horsepower, the Mazda is still more fun to drive. So, I'm not very tempted by Italians (except the ones with long dark hair), Kona only comes with AWD on the 1.6 petrol turbo and I already know how much fuel that uses, VW's become unreliable after around 8 years old, Vitaras are cheap feeling inside but otherwise good, but the HRV and Yarus Cross I think stand out as being better quality, with current tech as they're new, and I suppose it will come down to 2 or 4 wheel drive. With decent winter tyres it won't make so much difference. And I really like the HRV's interior....

    Thats a very good review and has helped me. Im in UK, but looking for a car for Spain, as l live part time there. This car came onto my radar just a few days ago, but your review has made me discount it already! Im looking at Kia Stonic, Hyudai Bayon and Kona, but can't decide! I need an auto and im attracted by the long warranties that Kia and Hyundai have. I was also considering the Ford Puma, but it only has a 24 month warranty in Spain, apparently! It must be an auto, whichever car I decide on. Which would you choose?

      @MarekDrives 3 года назад +2

      I have no experience with Ford, as they haven't been speaking to me in the last 3 years or so (apparently I don't like their cars enough). As far as Hyundai/KIA are concerned, they are basically the same. In Poland KIA gets longer warranty than Hyundai (7 vs. 5). If it's the same in Spain, it may help you make a choice. However I would advise to read the fine print, as some components may not be covered during the entire 7/5 year warranty period.

One gives 7 years with 3 years roadside and the other 5 years of both, which is a bit strange given they are the same company. Hi Marek! What do you think it's better to buy for a small family ( 3 people ) - Toyota Yaris Cross or Opel Mokka?
    Topgear wrote that "The ride was quite harsh and fussy, so much so that the mirrors were vibrating." on Yaris Cross. And now I have doubts about buying it with not so pleasant driving.

    • @MarekDrives
      @MarekDrives 3 года назад +1

      I wouldn't say it was harsh, but noisy.
      From an everyday usability standpoint the Yaris Cross is a better car, than the Mokka. The Mokka suffers from the annoying power cut, when taking off (blame emissions), which the Yaris doesn't have thanks to the hybrid drivetrain. However the Mokka is surprisingly quiet at motorway speeds. Also, I think Mokka has a better interior in terms of general feel.
      All that being said the PSA 1.2 engine could run into some timing belt issues close to when the warranty is about to expire, so you have to watch out for that.
      Did I make it more difficult for you? :)
      In the end, if you're looking for a car right now, you'll probably end up going with whatever can be delivered in the foreseeable future, rather than Q2 2023.

    Seems like Toyota is failing to be simple and practical cars. Reliable I'm sure, but it just doesn't seem that up to date and/or well thought out in the practicality. Also it's horribly expensive, at least in my market. Top specification (not counting ST) Ford Puma is 10 grand cheaper than the top spec Yaris Cross. Even the ST is cheaper, even a mid spec Skoda Kodiaq is a couple grand cheaper than this! But even in the horrible base spec it's the same price as a top spec Captur, Puma or really any other b-crossover of a much higher specification.

    • @MarekDrives
      @MarekDrives 3 года назад +1

      Where's that?
      In Poland the base spec is among the cheapest (thanks to the non-hybrid engine variant). However most pre-ordered cars are mid/high spec, says Toyota.

    • @shroomyesc
      @shroomyesc 3 года назад +1

      @@MarekDrives The base spec here in Finland also has the non hybrid cheap system but even so it's 26k for the absolute base spec. Toyotas are much more expensive than competitors here for no apparent reason, Corolla, Camry and RAV4 too but the Yaris Cross is a new level of ridiculous.

    • @frankopanklaric
      @frankopanklaric 3 года назад

      @@MarekDrives Yo. legit question. Why don't you reviewers ever review the base spec? I always feel like I am getting baited. I see a super nice car in a review and then I compare it to base version and it looks and I perceive it like a totally different car.

    • @MarekDrives
      @MarekDrives 3 года назад +1

      @@frankopanklaric these are press fleet cars. Carmakers usually present mid/high spec cars to the media, because they want to show the customers what's new. This is why you may want to upgrade your car in the first place.
      If you sit in a base spec Yaris this and previous gen, it's basically the same cheap plastic car. No reason to buy a new one for at least 2 generations.
      There are very few brands (actually I can only think of Ford) that make sense in lower spec. Most other brands are pretty much the same in low spec, and it's the high end options that make them stand out.

      It is not real AWD. Only the electric motor powers the rear wheels, so its contribution depends on the computer of the car making the right decisions, and the battery having stored enough power to use it. Its horsepower is abysmal and is very noisy, slow, and low quality. You can't really go offroad with it, it is a city car that just sits higher. It is a TRASH car, literally one of the worst on the market, get a Hyundai Kona N-line AWD, you are going to get double the horsepower, far better AWD, in pretty much the same form factor and for less money.
