  • The Large Hadron Collider (or LHC) is the world’s most powerful particle accelerator. In 2012, scientists used data taken by it to discover the Higgs boson, before pausing operations for upgrades and improvements. In the spring of 2015, the LHC will return to operations with 163% the energy it had before and with three times as many collisions per second. It’s essentially a new and improved version of itself. In this video, Fermilab’s Dr. Don Lincoln explains both some of the absolutely amazing scientific and engineering properties of this modern scientific wonder.

And some people say science is boring... What do they know, right?

They say science is boring because all they know is gen. ed. science from when they were 15.

Small bit of technical feedback: This video is interlaced, or at least the intro is. RUclips and most other video sites do no interlace uploaded footage which makes animations quite ugly. Try switching from interlaced to progressive scan in your encoding settings to fix it. It'll probably increase the filesize slightly, but the gain in quality is probably worth it.

why isn't, with all that energy involved, the detector getting radioactive a problem, supposedly there are seven detectors, isn't the degredation of unstable isotopes/elements, knocking the detectors to the junkyard?

Going to be one seriously huge electric bill, but for the sake of finding out what Father did to create the platform in which our souls go through "Teenaged" angst (I am speaking metaphorically) is time and money well spent. Why so? Because it can only reenforce the Awe we have for our Creator. My prayers are with you.

Hopefully this switch-on will not be heralded by irresponsible doom-mongers, the like of which scared that poor girl in India into taking her own life. I know what I think they deserve. As for the feelings of the people at CERN towards them I shudder to speculate.

Please understand that CERN has nothing to do with demons, portals to hell, Mandela Effect, Aolloyon, Nephilim, or any of the other pseudo-religious drivel that anti-CERN trolls upload to You Tube. Nor pseudo-scientific drivel like black holes, worm holes, stranglets, parallel universes, and hypercubes. Nor conspiracies from the Jews, the Vatican, The Muslims, or all the other scape-goats. As a devout Roman Catholic, I will pray for you. CERN is ONLY a particle physics experiment.
BTW, 666 requires 3 lines and three circles. The CERN logo has 5 lines and 2 circles. The irrational fear of the number 666 is known as hexakosioihexekontahexaphobia
