    I Grew up in North Leigh watching John on his Ramp that he put In our local adventure playground, got me into riding and I still ride today. Owe this guy alot although he probably only remembers the little kids watching him ride. The Ramp was burnt down in the end and I was gutted but it was where It all started for me. THANK YOU JP

    The conversation about micro marketing and the nature of an already tiny industry in flux is an important one, and it drives home why a company like Our BMX is so important. Industries change, and that change doesn't have to be good or bad. Future brands may not continue to support their riders the way they did in the past, and that might be okay. But the loss of media outlets dedicated to documenting and messaging the culture of BMX is its death knell. And that's the void Our BMX fills, thankfully!

    i don't usually watch podcasts, but this one with Povah was one i was really interested in for the North leigh/ Oxford connection. i'm 42 and from Witney, which is a few miles from North leigh and Combe bowl & although Povah had moved to the US by the time i switched from skateboarding to bmx in 93 -94, and never personally met him, the stories and photos of his ramp in North leigh seemed unreal. later dirt jumps were built in the woods at the common, and a few guys in the village rode flatland in the school playground. it was a tiny village back then, but over half the local bmxers came from there. so guess he inadvertedly created a scene that he never got to see. First time i was able to put a face to the name was Dirty deeds.
    Oxford itself had a pretty good ramp set up before the council chopped them up. A few of the Standard bykes riders stopped there for a demo, and as Alex knew Jerry Galley, he's sometimes turn up to boost the shit out of the ramps. Guys like Alex, Geoff cain and Steve McCormack were who us younger locals looked up to, and were the ones able to take us to KOC comp and Radlands. Bmx was so tiny back before the x games, but even then, in the UK, it was Shown on TV about 2am , so didn't really grow the sport that fast

      Wow !! I seriously never knew I had any kind of impact on the scene locally, this makes me sooooo happy !!! .... I was just a kid from London who loved BMX and wanted to ride. It just goes to show, if you have a passion and keep doing what you do it'll inspire others .... Love y'all !!!

      @@mikeescamilla9640 I know it's a late comment but MAN when you and Povah were talking OC spots things came flooding back! Since you kill pools I would love to hear if you ever rode the pool manufacturer spot that was on the north side of Chapman across from Vans at the block right before the mall was built!? On the freeway frontage road of the 5? it had like 4-5 empty pools when they closed down. I remember just exploring this area and riding it 2 times before it was demolished and finding it was the greatest thing ever. Also did you ever ride the mall before it was "the block"? I think it was called the "city mall"? Had a ton of banked walls and features everywhere.
      Some other notable spots were the mini golf right across from disneyland (abandoned for years) on Harbor and all the slum hotels along Chapman and Harbor with empty pools before they cleaned that area up.

    This episode slipped by me so I am late to the show but excited for it. I think a Plug for Dale’s could be in the future When you are not going to be drinking them. Is we are choosing to be responsible on this episode. LoL. I hope dale’s is happy supporting this show. Because of the show I did ask at 4 different bars, a theater and two restaurants in downtown San Diego last week. I came up empty, because of this show I did ask. I saw some pro street riders at the train station downtown I was kinda hyped I recognized Albert from a previous podcast. Two other guys a black guy and a white guy. I would hate to guess and be wrong. I could tell one was in the middle of a battle and didn’t want to mess up his flow so I kept walking. My buddy who lives down the block I told him when I see the clip I will send it. I only go downtown 1 or 2 times a year so I it cool to see the spots but I could never live like that. Anyway on 12-14-23 might have been the 15th at the point a curved bench at the train station downtown and am looking for some footage if anyone sees it pass along any info.

      right ?!?

    • @stoneyardbmx
      @stoneyardbmx 9 месяцев назад +1

      Wrong. The riders are just as broke as the industry. You’ll just end up having more riders riding cheap completes that don’t match the quality or they’ll be riding the same parts until failure and hopefully they don’t end up too badly hurt

    • @johnpovah5218
      @johnpovah5218 9 месяцев назад

      If you want something, you'll figure out a way to get it, @@stoneyardbmx I promise. The issue is, is that BMX consumer has historically been taught that shit should be affordable (whether you think that's the case or not).... Why should a brand make things cheap just because you can't afford it, they're in biz to be sustainable and build their brand, the sport etc ? And honestly, if you're knowledgeable about product, design, quality, and serious about the sport, I VERY MUCH doubt you're going to go out and buy a cheap POS frame or bike knowing it'll risk your neck ?

  • @gzdseh
    @gzdseh 10 месяцев назад +1

    You can't compare the costs of MTB frames and suspension forks with BMX frames and forks. Although a top of the range DJ frame goes for around the same price as a standard cromo BMX frame. Full suspension frames will obviously be dearer...the only thing I didn't agree with tbf.

    • @johnpovah5218
      @johnpovah5218 9 месяцев назад +2

      Thanks for the message, @gzdesh , its sincerely appreciated ... To respond to your comment: I didn't compare BMX forks to MTB forks, and a reputable DJ brands Frames are definitely more $$ than top of the line BMX (dirt jumping style) BMX frames
