- The war in Ukraine is reshaping our world. Every weekday since the invasion, the Telegraph's team of experts in London and correspondents on the ground have analysed the conflict for the ‘Ukraine: The Latest’ podcast, combining our reporting with detailed analysis of the war from all angles - military, humanitarian, political, economic, and historical.
With over 24 million downloads, it has grown to become the paper’s most popular podcast ever, with millions of listeners across Europe and the Atlantic.
To mark a year of war, we recorded a special video version of the podcast with its three core presenters - David Knowles, Dominic Nicholls, and Francis Dearnley - to reflect on the last 12 months and to answer questions submitted by listeners. They are joined by Aliona Hlivco, a former Ukrainian MP, and Oksana Zabuzhko, renowned Ukrainian novelist and essayist.

Great podcast…and to see /hear a huge array of views and opinions expressed is such an educational experience…and shows such hope for the future…like, views not like allowed in 🇷🇺!!!…💙💛💙
Couldn't agree more.
My thoughts exactly.
Absolutely
Wow!!! Glad to these faces David, Dominic and Francis. I’ve been following Ukraine the latest since the start. It’s my commuter pod cast or bed time pod. I am so thankful to these people for the fair and balance coverage. Ukraine is dear to my heart and can’t wait for this war to end so I can travel with my family to Ukraine. Putin must end this war and he and the minion must be held responsible!!!
Excelent, Excelent, Excelent! Excelent guests, excelent hosts, excelent ideas. No big empty words, no beating around the bush. That is journalism at his best and i know how dificult is to deliver that a full year day after day. Congratulations! A special note to Francis Dearnley and Oksana.

Its great to have faces to the voices and names I have been listening to your podcasts for nearly a year now. Keep up the good reporting work. I subscribe to the Telegraph now because I like to support the high quality of reporting both on Ukraine but also on other matters.
It's an echo chamber, totally ignoring how the Ukrainian government has assassinated opposition politicians and the Maidan coup overturned a democratically elected president supported by the majority of the population.
great to have faces . . .
Do any of their predictions come true?
yes
@@9thebear I see many people laughing to Russians sending old equipment on front line . Here is TOP Serbian Generals comment about that:
"Russia puts T-55 tanks into service. This is the most gruesome message to the NATO pact and the most gruesome message to the world since the use of atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. The T-54 tank does not have a PNZ coating on it, a coating that protects the crew from nuclear radiation. The T55 tank has that lining inside the tank. All subsequent tanks created in the territory of the USSR (and M84) also have that lining. All tanks have devices for filtering and ventilating the air, creating overpressure in the tank to protect against the entry of irradiated air, etc. The T55 tank and all the subsequent tanks have PNZ coating (anti-nuclear protection), but the T55 tank is a Serbian story. Its electronics are dominated by electron tubes, triodes, tetrodes, pentodes, hexodes, etc., in the stabilizer of the STP-2 Zyklon gun and in the R123 radio station, or in older versions of the T55 radio station R113. In all Soviet tanks, a nuclear strike wipes out all software from the tank's electronics, fire control navigation system, radio equipment, and other tank electronics. And the tank becomes pile of iron standing on the battlefield. A stationary target. A nuclear strike cannot erase any software from a T-55 tank, because the tank doesn't have any. In the event of a nuclear attack, all tanks stop, and only the T-55 tank continues its mission. Without any problems. A very clear message. We will drop the atomic bomb. A clear message. Armageddon. The R-123 radio device, along with other types of devices, selects channels through gears, which means that in the event of a nuclear bomb explosion, the electromagnetic shock, which some call an impulse, cannot cause damage to the assets. Anti-nuclear chemical protection of the tank with filters enables the use of the tank even after a nuclear explosion.
Anyone else from shovel laughter groups still laughing ? No?! Guess so...I want this war to stop now. Only morons cheer for any side in this conflict..... Stupid and sick west colonial minds....
Long form and allowing the two Ukranians to speak uninterrupted was really informative.
Very good piece.
I don’t intend to spoil your joyful party, but I believe it is extremely difficult to dislodge the Russian army from Ukraine. I know they were defeated in Afghanistan, who wasn’t?, but it was another time and the terrains were different and let’s remember it was finally Gorbachev, an enlighted leader, who withdrew.
The Russian army always loses in the initial phases. This was true during Catherine the great too! It’s basically a peasant army, with doggedness to withstand losses but they go reinforce and come back.
Eventually this war must end through negotiations, neither militaries is capable of defeating the other. We need a DEFINITION of success for Ukraine and that’s not total withdrawal of the Russian forces.
Perhaps a president Navaltney will withdraw the rest.
In my personal opinion (don’t rely on it) Ukrainians should concentrate on Crimea! For the moment forget Donbar and Lohansk! With Crimea Ukraine will have the Black Sea trade route!
@@arsalanziazie9812 or we can see how much GDP and weapons output potential, and discipline and training the Russian troops have. Only after he got assurances thru a third party (ex-PM of Israel) that his life is in no danger. Same night, he released a video stating he's staying. Far more nuance to ur statement.
Really enjoyed this episode! So nice to get a face on all those familiar voices! ❤️
US here. I've been listening to these podcasts for six months, when I first discovered them, and it's good to see the three faces behind the voices. But the one who stands out most to me is this former Ukrainian MP: Aliona Hlivco. IMO, she's an exceptional person and lady. To lose her would be a true loss for Ukraine, obviously, but would be a true gain for any other country. If she wants to come over to the west side of the Atlantic, I, for one, would welcome her with open arms. She would raise the bar of political discourse over here by a factor of ten or twenty without saying a single word.

Greetings from America. The faces of the voices I've been listening to for almost a year now match. Keep up the great work. You guys are the best podcast on Ukraine. I never miss a show
Wow first time I was able to put a face to the voices I have been listening too for a year.
A very complementary panel and, as others have noted, nice to put faces to voices.
Elena is very smart, thoughtful and well-spoken. She is a great spokesperson for her country.
I’ll be seeing these faces now every day I tune in 😂😂😂thanks for a year of reporting guys!
I know, right? They look so different from what I imagined. I'm sure that's true for everyone who has been an avid podcast listener.

I can not possibly express my gratitude to The Telegraph and this amazing group of reporters, editors and guests. I am vested in your excellent coverage with its respect and insight regarding the human beings in this war. Your narrative of the conflict is absolutely amazing. It’s gripping. In this day and age with so much odd and off reporting - this is a touchstone of how it should be done with dignity and truth. I know many of you like Dom work under immense difficulty but know we register and are grateful for your courage and commitment. You are all, everyone of you, first responders for truth.

It's a shame it's proven necessary, but thanks for the great coverage all year. I'm a lefty, so don't normally get my news from The Telegraph, but these guys (and gals) know their onions (as Dom Nicholls would say) and this situation goes beyond mere party politricks. I have to say, I expected Francis to look more like the comedian David Mitchell, as their voices are similar to me (I might need to increase the dosage of my meds). Cheers from a Brit in Bangkok.

Great to see you all.
That guy that posts NO VIDEO every day can finally have his fantasies fulfilled! 🤣
Whoa, very good guys . Slava Ukraine And The Free World.
So glad i finally get to see what these people look like. Been listening for a year
I have been listening the podcast for a while and finally I can see the faces of the three excellent presenters. Amazingly they all look just like I imagined how they looked like. Of course, my favorite presenter is still Francis. His thought is so clear and his mind is so sharp. Everything he says is right on the point, and he speaks so perfectly!
This is such a great program and I love all of them.
Fantastic presentation. The last statement that Aliona Hlivco the former Ukrainian MP gave says it all. It’s now time for the West to support the values that Ukraine have been fighting for
So oligarchs?
Interesting to finally match voices with faces. I had imagined Dom as a grizzled old warrior when he actually looks like an underwear model.
So much importance was said I’m lost for words. Beautifully done and insightful. This American will always cry SLAVA UKRAINI !!!!
Very powerful statements, explanations and arguments made by Aliona. Convincing.
Great year of podcast, great quests.
Hats off to Aliona Hlivco, and especially Oksana Zabuzhko for their insightful and eloquent commentary.
Left leaning independent, former Democrat, it still sometimes surprises me that I'm listening to the Telegraph (tho it was my Brit born/raised family main newspaper). It started because I wanted to try to remain objective by listening to different perspectives but this podcast grew into a top notch, go to, daily listen. At first I thought it might be too biased to be a good source of honest info but over time it became clear that the goal was accuracy even if the speakers clearly had taken a side. And in this war, accuracy is a really tough thing to do. Congratulations on a year of truly great work.
Fellow Lefty here agrees.
I found the insights offered by Ms Hlivko very interesting.
LOVE the video!
I Enjoyed the entire video, however I particularly enjoyed hearing from the young ex PM. I can tell that her heart and mind are 100% with the Ukrainian people, and on every question that was served her way, she stood tall, and gave her answers, and her opinions that shows that she loves her country, and believes in her countries leadership. I can't emagin her pain, although we here in America may soon understand the pain from war within. Our country is suffering from a corrupt self interest government, that we could very easily fall into a civil war. Infact I believe this will happen, and I think it is coming very soon. I do believe that something needs to be done to control our government, because somehow they believe that all the control of our country belongs to them.
So that is the faction that we the American people have an issue with. We will get this right.
Funny to finally see the faces of the team members I almost daily listen to
The Telgraph got it so wrong on Brexit that it exhibited what appeared to be willfully stupidity. But I always sensed when their journalists spoke candidly... they indicated they were being forced to take a party line - how awful. Here and in this remarkable podcast, they absolutely shine, and in the recent honesty on the dreaded B, it is serving to somewhat redeam the tarnished reputation of what was once a great paper. So if we could get past the big B, this team is exceptional and provide the best coverage of Putin's invasion available. Well done.
The insightful and thoughtful material coming out of The Telegraph is wholly pleasurable.
I like how PREPARED Mr. Knowles is with his questions on the topic. Americans could learn a lot from English intellectuals!!
I'm hearing your voice almost a year now, and it's always strange to finally see the face with it.
Re Zelensky. I think Ukrainians misunderstand that someone has to represent them to the free world. They want the heroes all be recognised, but its not possible. Someone has to talk to the worlds leaders on their behalf. Zelensky is doing it so brilliantly but Ukrainians in some way seem to resent it.
Thanks to all the reporters of the Telegraph pod cast.
Ukraine is showing the west what freedom looks like
Fantastic as always...but this time I get to actually see your faces! I found your podcast when other media outlets ceased or lessened their coverage of Ukraine, and I'm so glad I did. I wish I had been with you from the beginning instead of just six months. Thank you, thank you, thank you for your superb coverage of all aspects of this horrible war, always asking the questions that are in my mind and all the ones I would never think of. I will be listening intently up through your coverage of the Ukrainian victory parades and rebuilding of Ukraine. Slava Ukraini! 💙💛
Cool. To actually SEE the people who have become familiar voices on the podcast. PS. They don't look anything like my mental pictures. Hmmmmm!
I don't agree with what she said about Zelensky shadowing other heroes of war like officers or Generals. It's not a competition about who gets more public time.
Zelensky, as the President, represents Ukraine on the international level. He's the front man, and he's doing a great job at representing his country.
When it comes to the generals, the officers and the soldiers, they are doing their job. When the war ends, their names will be immortalise through various ways and their names will ve remembered in Ukraines history.
Amazing podcast keep it going guys
Love Aliona’s insights and accuracy. Please invite her more.
You guys are the single-best overall Ukraine-analysis out there. Follow your podcasts each day. Brilliant to see how you look. Please keep it up.
I've been listening to this podcast from NZ for the last 4-5 months, it's important and informative which is essential in this conflict to allow the public to understand what is going on.
The media here has turned a blind eye to it, someone even asked me two days ago if the conflict is still going on (to be fair we've had a weather crisis to focus on).
It's great to be able to put voices to faces in this video. Keep up the great content.
Slava Ukraini.
And let's stop referring to Ukraine as ex-soviet bloc!
Faces....faces! They look nothing like what I thought. Nice format. Loved it!
I never read the Telegraph as I detest the Tories with every fibre of my being, but, this is an amazing podcast I think the best Ukraine one around.
Brilliant! Also great to finally be able to put faces to the voices that I have come to appreciate in the individual quality that so far had been connected to them in an auditive fashion only. I pleasantly surprised myself in not being at all surprised. Good show and please do continue to cover this with the apparent zest, drive and above all honesty and quality. Britain and the rest of the world stands in debt to your excellent work and efforts.
to pu. to put faces to.. . . .
Great to put an image to the voices that speak truths!
Something unexpected I’ve learned from this podcast is that Ukrainians are strikingly articulate. No ums, no ahs, no notes - it just flows out, and in a foreign language, too. How do they do that? Is it something in their education system? Something in their water? If so, they could bottle it for export.
Слава Україні.
As a University lecturer from Ukraine I am happy to read your comment. English is well taught generally in Ukrainian schools and colleges. The chance to explain Ukainian motivation, wievs and feelings during the past most drastic year is priceless and well-delivered .
It's because English isn't very foreign to them. No need to go into mysticism right away

Very good discussion, as always. I am a 75 year old, American civil engineer living in Kherson, Ukraine and living here through the initial battle for the city, military occupation, liberation and the subsequent artillery bombardment for over 3 months now. Nice to put faces to voices heard over the past year…. Many Ukraine podcasts out there but “ Ukraine the latest “ is by far the best…… I dare say I have learned so much from the episodes - not only about the war but much more about Ukrainian history and its people and culture… I hope they keep this team together but the better thing to say is that the war ends soon and this great podcast comes to an end - cos it means the war is over and it allows a chance for healing and recovery to begin its long arduous trek … God bless y’all

Informative, sightful and thought provoking discussion, as always. I first discovered "Ukraine: The Latest" around day 5 of Russia's invasion, and the podcast has been an anticipated part of my day ever since.
Laying bare the way each country views the world and its own place therein, and having an honest discussion about how that shapes actions and prejudices, was so insightful. Oksana's please to stop using the terms "post-soviet" and "Ukraine crisis" drove home the point. Five Stars.
It's an echo chamber, totally ignoring how the Ukrainian government has assassinated opposition politicians and the Maidan coup overturned a democratically elected president supported by the majority of the population.
I'm from Ukraine and I don't think the term "post-soviet" is offensive if it's used to discuss problems within society in the 90s-2000s. It feels like everything wrong with my country after the soviet collapse was the fact that the people in power were former soviets. The education system was the post-soviet crappy system. The medical and police force were post-soviet. The corruption is a post-soviet "parting gift". Every problem we faced in the 90s (as well as the other countries: Poland/Estonia/Latvia) were the consequence of being a post-soviet country. However, I think Ukraine has gone through so much change in the last decade that post-soviet is no longer a term that reflects the country as it is.
It's good to have an in-depth discussion where questions are asked and time is given for a proper & full answer. I very much enjoyed seeing the people to whom I regularly listen in the "Ukraine: The Latest" podcasts. It's as if an epsiode of a radio programme was shown on TV.
Wow it's cool to put a face to the voices finally
Started listening to this podcast roughly one month after the start of the full-scale invasion and have not missed an episode since. Fantastic job by all of you. It’s unfortunate that this show is necessary in the first place, but it’s absolutely critical that we continue to give Ukrainians a platform on the international stage!
