Faker Got DDoS'd

- Well, it’s happened again.
Last weekend, a suspected DDoS attack brought the LCK to its knees and caused a series to go on for 7 hours.
And this week - it even got Faker.
All LCK live game broadcasts have been cancelled for this week. Games will be played behind closed doors and streamed later to viewers. Basically - it’s a disaster.

I've posted this elsewhere but, as a network engineer, which I am:
There is no valid, excusable reason to have professional esports played on a publically accessible server in 2024.
At all.
Period.

Faker is the unkillable demon king but even he can't stop a DDOS attack. The pun was just there for the grabbing the unkillable demon ping.
league is eomm and riged
It's Riot's job to stop DDOS and they are pretty hopeless at it. I guess they are trying to dethrone him with ddos since they cant do that in game.
Why the hell it's not played LAN....

The saddest part what DDOS attack no matter how much protection you have it can still happen the only way to stop it by taking a server and have an offline and play the game that way so when they get DDOS it has no connection to that it's offline server
Who in the world would just DDoS the LCK, even including Faker?
china
This company only cares about the skins and other stuff, Even today DDoS is still on their game, and It's not even fair for loyal players that enjoys their product for them to become lazy and ignore the problem itself, the player is hard carrying their solo game just to be better while others just yoinking ez points, that is so f'd up.
This shows how much lazy and greedy they are for the money.
@caedrel actually explained the DDos Attack in Rat Terms as well.

someone below by the name of kmenzel did mention about as network engineer, no esports games should be publically accessible server in 2024.
as a Network engineer for like... 6 years, i dont fucking understand how riot games. a company since 2009, didn't even think about LAN at the first place. we had this experience as esports from CS 1.6 to Dota 1 and 2, earlier IEM for League and nowadays games like fortinite etc. they never made it on publically accessbible server for the League tournament matchups..
like for god sake the negligence is so bad to the point we are thinking, do they even care about the esports anymore?
No, but here's new lux and ezreal skins.
Whoever is doing will definitely face serious jailtime or a hefty fine.
Just like the hack attack during the apex legends championship series

Kudos to them I guess 😂😂
Old school esports from mid 90s to 2000s did actual LAN setup, nevertheless
So they are only on LAN to have an equally shitty connection?
LoL's hypertoxcicity comes home to roost. It will die a slow death, no new players are allowed in.
What the fuck is the point of having the talent meet and play in person if you're not even gonna use fucking LAN? Jesus Christ, now it's making more sense why this company is also struggling to implement a replay system in Valorant. They're cavemen
getting DDOS in a lan event is like getting hit by a car in the superbowl.... its hilarious =))
Its not a lan event
So this is why Riot laid off hella people?
imagine playing on Lan. laughs in Dota.
Well deserved.

What i love is people becoming experts overnight on ddos and lan servers and how riot operates. So they are to cry wolf all the time.
ddos is very simple and easy to execute. LAN is just another word for local area network, it is not rocket science. Everyone with basic networking knowledge pretty much knows these things
@@tylim88 They do have a bit of a point. It's not complicated but never listen to the comment section. Do your own research rather than rely on the untrustworthiness of an open forum comment section on a video.
@guyen8631 "never listen to the comment section" is an extreme take bro. Even if you do your research there is no guarantee your source is correct. It is about information sourcing and filtering. And so far i dont see anything wrong with comment section. It is also dont have to be an expert like OP said to understand this basic knowledge, obviously OP intention is just want to justify riot use of remote server(without providing any solid reason, mind you), not asking us to be cautious with the comments.
LPL Fans still salty that's why they DDos atk?
Other teams got ddosed too but apparently only Faker had it. Can’t believe he wants that much attention. He’s a fraud just like Lebron James damn

It's mindboggling how Riot doesn't use a LAN. There are no downsides: 0 ping, invulnerability to DDoS attacks.
I love Caedrel's explanation of DDoS. LMAO
the rat one was great too
They realized the only way to take down Faker was to hack
Let's be very clear, the reason it is not a RIOT ID IP lookup/exploit is simple. Switching servers fixes the issue, the game endpoint is being attacked, not the individual user - otherwise their stream would go down.
A common technique in early 2015 used by attack crowds would be to target skype usernames that matched league usernames due to being able to resolve IPs from skype. This caused streams to go down.
Are you telling me a speculative tweet based on second+ hand knowledge isn’t a reliable source for cybersecurity information because if so I need to change my password
Reminds me of the early days of LoL, when going to a tournament could mean camping there because it would crash all the time.
This might be funny if this is true.
Riot games just laid off 11% of its employee. There might be a chance, some people on those 11% are biting back. 👀
(Just my crazy wild thoughts)
not likely since riot korea is an entirely self-contained company beneath riot games total. They didn't have any mass layoffs like much of the rest of the parent company.
Yeah, I don't get why they are not playing on a local build of the game.
I'm... confused...
aren't those played on lan? how do you DDos a privately hosted server?
Granted I don't know much about any of this, but I know that to DDos a server, you need to be able to communicate with it...
Does Riot run their in person tournaments online? why???
they played online on a lan xdddd
its probs cause the game's architecture is so old that their LAN still connects back to RIOT servers
Unlike counter strike where you can actually host ur own server riot doesn't distribute their server code to be able to be run. All these so-called lan games are really played online.
I believe the way it functions is they have dedicated servers for the tournament but they aren't on site at the tournament they are in production and server centers that within the region of the tournament.
there is no LAN on Riot games
All Valorant and LoL tournaments are both online
Faker Moon Face .. Gonna get some Samsung AI pic now ~ 😂😂😂
Everything's fun and games for the hackers until Riot finds out who they are. XD
Riot: Let's change the naming system in League for no reason or benefit at all.
Hackers: Sure, see what happens..
I was watching this live. It was a struggle
Easy Fix : Drop your Ego, and make it LAN.
Will they do it though? Nope. Because Riot's management team is bronze at life.
I saw somewhere that this might have been a joint effort by Chinese boosters and scripters and LCK back end staff. the LCK staff in question most likely provided crucial details like IP address and such.
its very unlikely that it is to do with lck staff. That is something that could be figured out easily enough and SK is very strict on these kinds of breaches of contract. Killing your entire livelihood to earn pennies isn't likely to be the reason for this.
Sounds pretty darn bogus to me.
