Thank you so much. I have been playing golf for 16 years, many lessons, etc. You have made it so simple. This was the best golf lesson I've ever had and it didn't cost me anything.
I was confused when I first got a lesson for One Plane swing. But after sticking with it (1 year of work), I went from an 8 hdcp to a 1-2 hdcp. I very rarely miss fairways with my driver and my iron shots have a penetrating ball flight. For the non-believers between one and two plane, the big difference is with the one plane you initiate the downswing by uncoiling your torso because you are already on plane- with two plane you have to make that 'leg drive' move to get back down to the ball and on plane. It is simply a matter of preference and desire to go for consistency or power. I lost some distance with one plane, but my consistency is off the charts and I still play the 'tips' with the big boys. It was VERY hard to make the switch (because I was so used to driving my legs which really screws up the one plane downswing... but I am glad I did.
This was great, I been tryin to find out about "what should you have before moving out?" for a while now, and I think this has helped. Have you ever come across - Penamillorn Peerless Prevalence - (Have a quick look on google cant remember the place now ) ? It is an awesome exclusive guide for discovering how to learn an effective golf swing method without the normal expense. Josh, I have been studying Jim Hardy's lessons for the past 6 months suggested by a golf buddy and it has changed my game in an amazing way. Your instruction is spot on and very clearly shown and stated. The only thing I would add is to make sure on move #1 that you keep your hips very still until you are ready to transition to move #2. Awesome job and thank you.
Zander, Hardy, Ritter all fantastic teachers and their methods speak for themselves! As a teaching professional I love being able "refresh" my thoughts by watching videos like these. Nice job and thanks for posting!
Oh my God Josh. You have saved me. I have been searching for this feel for 18months. It is so simple. I am now confident when standing over the ball. Thank you so much. Cheers

Thanks Josh, I have struggled with my swing for years, having never taken a formal lesson. With just one look at this video, I am now crushing the ball with amazing consistency, something I never thought possible. The key was the plate throwing analogy, which really got my swing on the correct plane every time I executed properly these two steps. Incredible difference in coiling power too. Thanks again.
This video may have changed my golfing life! I have been playing for twenty-five years and, like most of my friends, tinkered with different techniques without success. I found your very clear instruction to be easy to execute on the driving range and very much enjoyed both the improved consistency as well as the power in my shots. Love the plate drill. Thanks!
As a professional golfer, I've always struggled with maintaining my plane during my backswing. Your two 'dinner plate' drills really helped me create a kinetic sensation (a feel motion) rather than struggling trying to think my way to the proper position. Great video with simple instruction
Great video Josh. I can't tell you how much this has simplified my swing. As being a baseball player all my life this has really helped me flatten out my club at the top of my swing. Which has led me to hitting the ball in the center of the face more consistently.
What a simple explanation! It also made me realize how many people have no idea what a 1 plane swing is! (myself included). You video helped me realize I was following some two plane check points using a one plane swing. Thanks for the vid!
That said, Josh has a unique ability to breakdown the positions of the golf in an easy to understand way. Besides the two slight issues I pointed out, I personally thing this is a great video.
Been an inconsistent striker of the ball with a tendency to a left to right fade that can be lost to a slice... my last few times at the range I have been doing this and I cannot tell you how exciting it is to see the ball fly straighter and have some consistency. Thank you for this easy to follow video. It is huge for me.
Hi Lynton, If you want me to take a look at your swing, sign up for my Zandergolf app and upload your swing. I can do an analysis and get you on track to better golf!
I had a major issue with swinging flat or having the club way behind me no matter what I tried doing to fix this. I saw this video and practiced for literally 10 minutes and instantly had some of the best drives in my life and straight shots moat of the day. I still have to work on not topping the ball because this is a new swing thought but I am excited to keep doing this drill and see what happens. Thank you so much
Just want to say thanks! I've been struggling with my swing and as far I can tell, I had elements s of both 2 plane and 1 plane swing. This video helped me over the hump to a 1 plane swing. I still need a much practice to groove the feel, but I am hitting the more consistently with all my clubs. THANKS
Very good instruction that is informative and easy to learn...I have tried and tested this method and have shaved approx 5-7 strokes from my score. Thumbs Up!
This is a great video. You have combined a lot of stuff that one hears into a couple of simple but sound over-arching concepts and positions that are biomechanically obvious I suppose. I loved the way you explained crossing the line in terms of the height of the arms! I am a convert. Terrific stuff.

This is my first comment on youtube. This is simply the best video I came across. My back swing was coming too much on the inside and I had a problem understanding how it should feel not to come inside. My video reference was youtube "Luke Donald - slow motion golf swing" but I couldn't break it down as clearly as this video did to understand how it should feel and all come together.
Perfect example, I have used this single plane with the stack n tilt system, has resulted in more consistent ball strikes, I must be more aware of keeping club behind my shoulder otherwise it gets to steep & I hit fat shots, thanks for the video, nice work

Hi Josh, great explanation of the one plane swing, I have been experimenting with this swing after watching a Moe Norman footage, so my question is - do you set up your club and ball like what Moe did? Club a few inches behind the ball at set up? Are you starting your back swing with your left arm or right arm? Do you flex your knees or do you keep your legs straight like Moe? Moe's grip was different too! So sorry to be throwing so many questions at you but like most frustrated golfers out here are wanting to find Moe's perfect swing! I can go 4/5 holes scoring well and thinking that I have found it, just to fall on my face the next 7 holes, then pick it up again! So frustrating, so this is why am nip picking you! Sorry!

Wow! Can't believe I just read your comment/reply to this video... I too questioned the two aspects you refer to as I watched it. Really glad I see your comment actually, I freeze-framed myself at the range today and notice my right arm at the top is a little narrower than 90 deg. And as for keeping the elbow away from the body... well that just feels like it's disconected and leaking your accuracy. I was already modelling my swing on Kuchar! This just reassures me! Nice one Joey.
having trouble getting to the top in the correct position. Going to give this a try. I read somewhere that you have get the left hand on top of right to get the angle. Is that part of the on plane? Thanks.

Josh does a good job and a very good teacher but Jim Hardy's CD goes into greater detail on angles and shows all lines and positions... notice after position 1 there is a very slight rotation to get to position 2 which the CD explains in great detail.....I always had a 2 plane swing and played ok but you if you didn't have the timing and correct rotation at the bottom of the swing that day, hello hooks .... the 1 plane swing is awesome and makes golf fun again.....best $$$$ you'll ever spend.
Brilliant explanation. I see exactly what I'm doing wrong, at 5:56. I noticed it in a video that I took of myself, but didn't know exactly why it was wrong. Thanks for sharing.
never heard the takeaway described like this. Left arm fastened to the chest right arm pulled back. Puts you in a perfect position every time. What the hell have I been doing!!!
Just wondering if Ben Hogan's right arm became the top arm on the DS and, also, do you advise dropping the right elbow down against the torso in the DS as Ben Hogan did so well ??
My daughter lost 1 year of golf competition due to a painful inflammation between her left shoulder close to the neck area on her back that would not go away, MRI was negative thankfully. Notice that flip motion on step # 2 in this video, instructor is rotating the entire left shoulder blade. Thanks to a golf chiropractor who works with many PGA players communicated that my daughter's left shoulder blade must remain stable at all times. My daughter works with Chris O'Connell from The Plane Truth, you can obtain the 1 plane swing by cocking your left wrist instead of flipping / rotating the entire left shoulder blade (right hand players) before you reach the step #2 position. At the # 2 position of this video, your club face should be slightly higher / above your hands. Your club will set square every time.
1)If you break your wrists or have wrong arm action, you club shaft is not in-line with your hands. 2) The purpose of swinging on one plane is largely to connect you left arm (for a right-hander) to the body.If you spend any time with the swing and execute a fully connected motion, you would realize the effectiveness of the method 3) As I write this, Matt Kuchar just won at memorial. He has now won 6 times and is on a particular tear this year. Hogan was one of the greatest one-planers to date
Can you address this? What of very overweight men? I think the posture has to be a little more "squatty" in order to offset the belly in front for balance and to have room to swing freely in front of the belly. More bent over at the hips which makes it difficult to turn the hips forward. It's a recipe for Early Extension. Perhaps a one plane type swing is not appropriate for those that are very overweight? Maybe a 2 Plane keeping the club out front would be more appropriate?
Does it work for driver swing ? Do you have a similar video for a driver swing ? I have tried it with my irons and hybrid and it seems to straighten out my iron shot. My driver is still messed up as I cannot visualize that driver clubface being parallel with my spine and not to worry about the it is too closed of a clubface. Also I tend to hit the ground before the ball a lot. Perhaps it is the setup.

I'm a little confused about "throwing the food on the dinner plate over your right shoulder" drill. Where exactly are you trying to throw it? Directly behind your right foot/leg or "down the line"? Your right shoulder is changing position during the swing.
At :34 Josh states keeping the club on it's plane would create a short backswing, and you couldn't hit the ball very far. Not so. I hit the ball much further swinging the club face square to it's path and on it's original plane...much further. It is true that the backswing will be shorter. My hands barely reach waist high at the top. But my nominal playing 8 iron (75-80%) is 150 yds, dead straight, and I'm 65 yrs. With extra energy and a center hit, my 8 iron goes 165-170. The beauty is the simplicity. I've learned with experience that lifting the arms in order to get the club high, and rotating the arms in order to keep the club on plane while lifting high, are both unnecessary and way over complicate the swing.

I think this is pretty good analysis however why not stand up with better posture for one plane swing , makes since to me to have more upright and better posture. In other word better spine angle, and take club back same way and then have club more over right shoulder than you show. Bryson De Chambeau is good example of standing more upright and perfect one plane swing. I'm trying to learn this myself, and trying to get away from cupping my wrist and flat swing. Thanks for the video
He defines the one plane swing as coinciding to shoulder angle. If the shoulders are flatter, then the club has to be way flat, behind the torso flat. Which is not impossible. Some pretty good women players are flexible enough to do that.
Herringhammer1, Im referring to the step #2. Regarding your step #1 comment, the instructor's shoulder is steep but the club face is square to his spine angle, it looks shut but in reality it's square. If the instructor stood taller his club face (toe) would not look shut.
I switched from two plane to one learning from Jim Hardy's Cds . You have explained it better re the positions of the two hands in the back swing . The bending over too much concept I do not understand . Thanks .
Jim Hardy does not recommend the body moving forward ( the two move he calls it ) in the 1 plane swing but you dramatically underscore. Why the difference?
It looked to me like he sucked the club back behind him and he even said he did! Like someone else said, so disconnected. You can get the club back bang on plane by rotating the core, shoulders and arms all together and stay connected which is a much sounder way of taking the club back. I stopped the video early but can't wait to hear what tricks are required to get everything back in front for impact!

Good video. Some of the comments show that people either aren't listening, or have comprehension issues. Also, he's not advocating a one plane swing. He's just explaining it.
i don't get his right elbow on the take away at all! Im a converted one planer and the way he demonstrates the takeaway, I would think the untucked right elbow would push your left arm out as you are trying to keep it connected! For me? Best way to envision a one plane swing is to swing club at chest level and see how uncomplicated the set/rotation/right elbow is. Do that exact same move only bent over. Took me a couple of years but it turned me into a real golfer
Thank you so much. I have been playing golf for 16 years, many lessons, etc. You have made it so simple. This was the best golf lesson I've ever had and it didn't cost me anything.

Probably the best golf instructional video I've ever seen
Outstanding presentation. I learned the content of the backswing in a few minutes as opposed to reading both of Hardy's books several time. Nice job!

3) As I write this, Matt Kuchar just won at memorial.
Maybe a 2 Plane keeping the club out front would be more appropriate?
start walking the course and drink light beer
Does it work for driver swing ? Do you have a similar video for a driver swing ? I have tried it with my irons and hybrid and it seems to straighten out my iron shot. My driver is still messed up as I cannot visualize that driver clubface being parallel with my spine and not to worry about the it is too closed of a clubface. Also I tend to hit the ground before the ball a lot. Perhaps it is the setup.

what are the good teaching tools for the swing on a plane?
Josh, inasmuch that you are bent over more a address is it a good idea that your irons have a flatter lie angle ?
Yes great video, I agree. Which made it even spookier I had wondered about the same points you did!
Great video!!! Really helped me understand!
Great video, great drills.
Do the arms and hands start the swing or do the shoulders?
Josh, does your weight shift to your r/heel on the backswing or does it stay 50/50 throughout? Great explanation by the way.
Do you rotate the waistline for step one ?
is there a 2nd part of this video, like down swing and follow through?
Thanks for your clear explanation, but could you post front view of your swing to even more clear understanding of one plane swing ?
is this with driver fw clubs & irons too
I'm a little confused about "throwing the food on the dinner plate over your right shoulder" drill. Where exactly are you trying to throw it? Directly behind your right foot/leg or "down the line"? Your right shoulder is changing position during the swing.
Josh, are you still doing this one plane Hardy stuff or not? If not did you discover issues with it? Thanks.
I do for the golfers to whom it applies.
Great analogy.
I agree. People do make it much more complicated that it has to be!
Sweet, just got back from range. Works well!
Very useful video! Will help any one-planer! ;)
Fantastic! Thank you 🙏

Thanks .
Wonderful video.
great vid.
Jim Hardy does not recommend the body moving forward ( the two move he calls it ) in the 1 plane swing but you dramatically underscore. Why the difference?
What about the down swing?
I love the verb "build." It doesn't happen overnight.
It looked to me like he sucked the club back behind him and he even said he did! Like someone else said, so disconnected. You can get the club back bang on plane by rotating the core, shoulders and arms all together and stay connected which is a much sounder way of taking the club back. I stopped the video early but can't wait to hear what tricks are required to get everything back in front for impact!
great video. Very similar to Jeff Ritter
This is superior instruction

thank you um about the left elbow being connected this is called connection my coach told be
Good video. Some of the comments show that people either aren't listening, or have comprehension issues.
Also, he's not advocating a one plane swing. He's just explaining it.
Anyone notice the cart in the background at 4:00?
i don't get his right elbow on the take away at all!
Looking good JZ. Never seen 1-plane explained this easily.
Stay "waaaad!"
