Great video with a great example of what alignment sticks can do as a training aid.
One thing tho and I often do not see it covered which is the importance of to much or to little fore arm rotation in the takeaway.
I use this drill often because I tend to rotate my right fore arm to much causing an open club face.
The sticks help greatly in getting a visual clue of keeping the toe slightly closed in this drill.
    Keep up the good work.

After five years wondering what had happened to my game I finally went for a lesson a month ago. After the first warmup swing he told me I was taking it back way on the inside. I had no idea. Once that was corrected I was back to playing how I used to in the good old days. Last week I beat 39 other guys in an end of season event. Kicking myself I didn't get this corrected sooner.

@@cymrudan36 Thanks mon. I was taking it back on a flat baseball-style plane like the pro does at the beginning of the video just before he throws the alignment stick away. Now I try to get my hands as high as possible on the backswing. That keeps me swinging straight down the line. Felt weird to start with but is slowly starting to feel natural. Far fewer hooks or slices now.

If you really want a solid understanding of ball flights and how different paths and face angles effect them learn “the new laws of ball flight” which are the basic physics of the game. It’s amazing how many golfers don’t know them and just blindly try to hit different swing positions without really understanding why these positions are crucial.

This video of yours, is a good example...it captured that elements I'm talking about. It's engaging, by this I mean, you are talking and showing/demonstrating at the same time.
What's disengaging is when an instructor talk for a long time and then in the last minute, quickly show it. This is not very engaging, let alone helpful, that's all.

Love the video and will try this drill out today, but have a question or two. 1. Will I need a different alignment rod placement and thus a different take away for each club or are the alignment rods spaced such that one set up is good for most or all clubs? 2. I have a bad habit of an over the top swing with a square face to path, thus shots headlining off the fairway left but on a straight path. (Right hand golfer) will this drill help that or am I doing something wrong at the top / start of my down swing? Im hoping that the proper take away will put me in a better position for the down swing. I do try to visualize keeping my back to the target as long as I can in the down swing but wonder if I am letting my arms drop or if I spin around my spine, thus over the top. Do you have a drill / explanation of the down swing move?
    Sorry for the long question.
Thank you for providing helping a frustrated golfer.

Without incorporating the cupping of the right wrist/bowing of the left your club face is going to be open. You can see in the rehearsal 11:28 you're almost vertical whereas every good player is going to have that face at more of the 1 o'clock position.

    @mesillahills 5 месяцев назад

Newsflash.. You are turning with your knees. Touring pros turn away with their bodies. and body angle determines swing path. You need to get control of your knees before running your mouth and your camera. BTW - That is called "connected". Arms, hands, and shoulders only go along for the ride. Nicklaus called this the most important move in the swing. It is why the first 4 inches of take-away are so critical. Body, not knees. The swing tightens up a bit and this results in more power as well. Swings today are getting shorter, not longer from loose knees.

Really love the video but you didnt get to the point until 5 minutes in. Maybe try putting a clip at the beginning of what the drills/point are. You'll lose most youtube viewers if we have to sift through the video to try and find the point.

The theory is fine, but experience tells me that if you aren't hitting balls with the gate in place, then you won't get much out of it. Hitting actual golf shots has a hypnotic effect on most people.

Hands moving away from the body during takeaway works pretty good for Couples and Furik.....Just saying.....Humans are not machines; everyone's body moves differently. Impact is the most important part of the golf swing. Every pro has learned to make adjustments coming into impact to be successful, regardless of takeaway.

I get that. But if we are shown the correct way first, then when we are shown the incorrect ways, we can compare the incorrect ways to the correct way now in our mind and understand the difference. You already know the correct way, so it makes sense to you. But we are watching in bewilderment having no idea what your point is.
Believe me, from a newcomer, amateur point of view, throughout most videos like this, we are lost. For us, showing the correct way first keeps us understanding what you are saying the entire video, not just the very end of it. Get it?

Kinda the point of me making the video from a retention standpoint isn’t it… if I do the correct way first, you watch a minute and then leave after u got what you wanted.

It’s not negative alt all. I’m teaching golfers what the most common movements of the takeaway produces so that when your on your own at the range you can identify what movement you’re creating.
If you think all you need is the “how to fix” then you’re probably not very good at this game.
Go on IG and watch 30 sec reels of positivity if that what you’re wanting. Long form content teaching golfers more in depth probably isn’t your thing
