Well explained Ryan, good lesson, clear and crisp explanation. Chapeau
Great video Ryan thanks 🙏🏻 just one question is when does the trail hand leave the cradle? After impact or slightly before? 🤔 keep up the great job 👏
@@MrPaulbartholomew trail hand will start leave from about P5-P6
Brilliant black and white explanation. Thank you sir. :-)
This adds wrist cupping for me which I’ve been taught is not good. What do I do?

Great drill thank you!!
Great tip for better shots! 👏
Scottie Scheffler didn't get the memo!
It's a great idea but I must be flexing the left knee for some reason like decent contact or getting the club on plane because I cannot stop doing it on anything faster that a super slow motion rehearsal swing.
Hi Ryan. Santa delivered one of these. It's telling me I'm way too closed at the top but good at impact. Should I go changing anything? I seem to have lost a bit of distance with irons of late and not compressing as much. But I got rid of the hook miss left in doing so.... There's so many facets to this game!
@@strypergolf impossible to know what u need mate without seeing a swing. If you’re good at impact then maybe the top doesn’t matter…
Solid tip.
Great video.
Great lesson,Thankyou but what is that annoying noise in the background
Yes that me no matter what I do and try I keep doing that movement and can't break out of it and the drop of the shoulder I do both wrong ways
How do you move lateral? Is it a push off back leg or some how float laterally?
@@bj146651 once trail leg is loaded, it’s a slight push off the trail foot. Dont really need to think about that too much tho… throw a ball and it’s the same thing
To much talking

Fantastic explanation
Thanks for sharing - Hooray for era of videos (2024) - in yester year of magazines and pictures it would have taken a pages to explain this and even then it might not be that clear
Nicely & simply explained - thanks for sharing ! (noted your comment that you wish you knew this 10 years ago - wow! (PS the screen cap showing JT steep and Rory "deep" was what made me click)
Nelly Korda has a drill where she has a ball behind the ball she is about to hit and pushes the second ball back . This helps me two ways : proper take away and also low take away loads my back swing with power .

I started bowing my wrist like Rahm and DJ and I’m hitting the ball much much more solidly, but I tend to pull the ball allot more. So now I have to fix that.
@@polarbear4612 “bowing” the lead wrist closes the face… which starts the ball left… (pull)
@ So how do Rahm and DJ keep from pulling the shotwith such a bowed wrist? Should I just aim way right?
@ nah need to exit left. Face needs to be open to the path. Face can be closed to the target but path needs to be more across the ball
Reached out on X (nee twitter) about this video when you first released it. The 2 ball drill has transformed my iron game. Was 5-7 i/o and after one session of this drill have seen my path neutralize to 1-2 i/o with the ability to hit proper fades on demand if I want. It has been consistently at that now for two weeks worth of indoor sessions. I made that extreme path work with some club face manipulation but was prone to an over draw or push if things weren't timed correctly. With a more neutral path that manipulation isn't required and has lead to much more consistent contact. I've seen other drills similar but they didn't land with me, for whatever reason this gate drill has done the trick. Thanks so much for posting this, and to anyone looking for coaching, seriously consider contacting Ryan.
How about an open face at the top and then the closing of the club face on the downswing around the shaft’s axis?
@@JJ_Khailha Can do that yes.
@@ryanmouquegolf Phew! Thanks for the reply. 🙂
nah, turn on its on doesn't affect depth,,, the relationship between turn and lift does.... if you turn less but lift less, you are bellow plane. JT is clearly lifting way more than Rory... the swing is way to dynamic for one piece to affect a precise outcome... how much of that height you burn early in the down will also affect if your under on or over... Just my opinion..
Does Catalyst data support getting into the trail heel fully? I definitely agree that the pressure shift to the ball of the lead foot before rotating ultimately into the lead heel. Good video!
@@TheGoodGadfly it won’t go into the trail heel 100%. There will still be “some” pressure in the toes and ball of trail foot at the top but majority will be trail heel
I don’t think I’ve ever seen it!

Great vid. I don’t think about anything, I just try to feel my lead hip/arse cheek is replicating (rotate around and up ⬆️) what my trail hip/arse cheek did on the takeaway/backswing (rotate around and up ⬆️)
Good one
Hey Ryan! Another great video! I’ve seen all 3 versions of these drills previously from other instructors. They’re all great. I think that the alignment stick drill resonates with me the most though. Will be planning to work on these this winter as part of my indoor off-season practice. Thanks
Great stuff.
even Pros make some dumb mistakes off tee and with second shots and the result is Double and triple Bogeys. OH NO you say but it's true, you just don't see them doing it on the Sunday TV coverage. seen a Pro play hole exactly like you did here in a pro am at my course. except he had a 7. If you were playing is Saturday morning Stableford competition, you would just pick up after one over nett Double bogey on the hole and score as a P =0 points
It's not arse, it's bum
Is it same weight transfer theory for driver ?
As someone who has the tendency to roll it inside this was a very good drill to correct this bad habit. Usually I would see drills to stand with your back to the wall to identify if you are pulling it inside. However that only tells you if you are doing it wrong. this well demonstrated drill gives you a good habit building takeaway so that you know how to set your takeaway correctly every time.
@@BigOnGolf cheers 👊🏼
Great instructional video on how to use it properly. Didn’t sound like a sales infomercial that are so prevalent on social media for the prosendr.

Good stuff! You did a great job of explaining this. I have heard bits and pieces of it other places but you put it all together. Thanks man!
Awesome explanation
Very interesting. I was thinking about this the other day and it is nice for you to confirm my suspicions. That block cut is the worst!
Hey Ryan. Trying to do this with a driver. Is the drill set up exactly the same?
@@geraldbodner9370 yes. But the drill is just an example. You need to insert the drill that your coach has given u. Or maybe ur just asking about the drill cause u want to try it…? But yeah same with driver
@ yes. I wanted to try it. So far so good. Just looking for better sequencing. Trying to do the 25 balls daily.
I will not throw a club again …or at least ill think twice before… many many yrs ago i had an almost antique 2i that i for some reason hit reasonably well most times . I was playing g my old set of beginner clubs i got at caldors (a now decades closed department store chain) and was planning if i shot another 9 in the mid to low 40’s i was buying a new setof irons . I was nearing the end of 9 and was on course for maybe even breaking 40 for the first time ever .. cant recall if it was a par 5 or i missed my tee shot on a par 4 but i needed more than the 230-250 i could get out of my 3i . …or i wouldve needed to really wind up to make the green with the 3 .. so out comes the ole 2i , all i had to do was smooth it through the ball and i was good almost anywhere the ball went …i was excited, i wound up took a breath ,and swung smooth and slowish down towards tHe ball … and hit 3-4inches behind it and the ball only went about 50-80 yrds max 😡😡😡😡😡almost whipped the club but caught myself and just sort of tossed / flipped it up in the air a few feet …and i watched this light flipping toss as it came down and hit perfectly on angle to bend and crease the shaft almost 180 degrees 🤦🏼♂️. This club was at least 30 yrs old and irreplaceable ! I was so flustered i ended up finishing just barely in what i could call mid 40’s (thunk it was a 47 ) ..i could never find another 2i i could hit at all never mind as easily as that one … tldr: dont ever throw a club unless your sure you can live / play without it . They break easier than you’d think ! Bought a set of the best irons that Dicks sporting had in my price range:air bears … that proceeded to ruin my game and ive never come close to breaking 50 since (over 20 yrs now )… in my mind its all because i broke that 2i Just this season ive gone back to complete game improvement clubs (taylormade Qi irons and a Qi max driver ) that havent helped yet but i see my self learning to hit them well by next season 😬 Sorry for long comment .this is the second of your videos i watched consecutively and i like your methods/tips and wanted to help the channels by commenting ..but, me being older middle aged now i tend to ramble 🤪😜🤷🏼♂️👍🏼✌️

Plenty good stuff here. Warren Bennett recommends same about speed coupled with light grip pressure so you can feel the changes and so implement them in full swings. If you like this you'll love Warren Bennett and his methods.
This is an amazing video! Exactly the issue I’m having and a fix. Thank you!
@@eg7jj you’re welcome
This makes a lot of sense actually. One question, if you had say 80 balls to use, is it better to go through all 4 sets of 20 at once or to take a 30 minute or hour break between each one? I’m thinking probably better with a break, since it forces you to reset more? Also, switching clubs between sets would be good too I think? Helpful for us sickos with a mat and net in the garage at home
@@noradinc I don’t think it’s mentally possible to hit more than 40 balls doing this. This will require a lot of mental energy to do Most golfers will give up on this and start whacking balls because it takes discipline
