This professional is the most underrated teacher in the sport of golf. His ability to articulate the mechanics of a consistent motion is unmatched. Moe is proud of Mr. Graves!
Todd...That has got to be the best demonstrated vlogs you've made to date..I'm watching this time after time and makes a complete analysis on the back swing which is so easy to follow!..So, many thanks for your dedication and persistence to make our swing as perfect as possible.
This is the best takeaway-backswing instruction ever, I also think this is the most important part of the swing that will determine the plane and the downswing trough the ball.
Your series on Moe and your instructional videos breaking down his technique are fantastic! I became friends with Mark Evershed and his lovely family in the early-mid 2000's when he was at Peterborough Golf and Country Club. Mark introduced me to the single plane concept and he shared some of his own stories about Moe. I started golf late in life at 45 years old. Since starting in 2000 I had been trying to learn golf the way every one else was. When Mark convinced me to try the single plane swing my handicap dropped more the next year than in my first 9 years! I haven't played much since 2013, but I'm semi-retired now and I'm surrounded by golf courses and wineries! So I'm starting to practice the single plane swing again. Thanks for sharing your knowledge and enthusiasm!
Todd, just wanted to say thank you for everything. Sometimes I can’t believe how much you give away for free. Discovering this channel and Moe has changed how I play golf. Only been playing for 2 years and I have never hit the ball straighter. Best golf coach I have ever seen - wish I could come and visit you in the States.
Totally agree! Thanks Todd for your continuing vlogs on the SPS Model and your honest appraisal of, an insight to issues you encounter with your swing, ball position or reading gre hisens when putting. Most golf instructors edit their video sessions which gives the impression that they are faultless. Moe said it took him 5-years to establish his SPS and although he spent the rest of his life hitting balls to maintain his fluid swing, he openly admitted that putting was his weakness. When asked whey? Moe replied, “Because, ball striking and putting are 2 completely different strokes. One’s in the air and the other is on the ground.” Moe won 80+ events and admitted to occasionally playing for 2nd or 3rd placed trophies, or recording 6 x 3-putts in the last round after holding a 54-hole lead. I find myself wondering if Moe really was a poor putter or was it his shyness or on course events that impacted his putting and as such, lowered the probability of Moe winning numerous PGA tour events and Majors. Winning 80+ events, scoring multiple 59’s and setting numerous course would suggest that Moe was, in fact, a great putter, and although we shall always remember his “feeling of greatness” and being the “greatest ball striker, ever!”; Moe could have been remembered as the “greatest golfer, ever!” 🤔One can envisage Moe hitting thousands of balls down “the pipeline” to a captivated audience on the driving range at ‘Heavenly Golf Club & Resort’ ⛳️🏌️♂️😀 RIP Moe...
Am a new golfer. I was really struggling with conventional golf and was not enjoying learning. I found your videos it has changed everything. Only a couple of months and I hit the ball straight most of the time. Just wish you had coaches in Scotland. Keep up the great videos.
Omg...I just figured something out today....leaning my butt back, feels like 1-2 inches, feeling my weight transfer to my heels...is giving me pure and straighter strikes. I hope today isn’t just a good day.
God these videos are so much better than nay video I've ever seen. So much detail and so much more energy put into these videos.... And the most important component is the ideas are complete and part of a package and don't leave you guessing.
Your foot board is helpful. I own it. Tilt is critical. Left arm turn and hand on the club. These are true fundamentals. Then it goes to the course. Its a bit uphill and bit downhill and grass in front or behind the ball or no grass at all. The nice thing is that the swing can be taken to the course and measured out for each shot with an understanding of the fundamental swing. I'm the guy over on either end of the range hitting out of the deep uphill or downhill grass. This is the best way to swing by far. And zero injury. Keep at it Todd and thanks alot. I have all of your books, the old videos and even a Moe Sandy Andy. I break out your grip club 6 iron and use it from time to time to reinforce grip fundamentals. All worth the time andclearly the best money I have ever spent on golf. all the best
I have watched every video once or twice or even five times - because they are so informative. I have been watching for 1-1/2 years and own the book - but every new video beats the next video. You do amazing work and are a great teacher. Keep it up!
Your backswing lesson has been a breakthrough for me. I was taking the club straight back and it was causing all kind of inconsistencies. When I watch and got the feel of this lesson, OMG, it was a major breakthrough. Thank for such a great lesson!
Wow, I've been working on the single plane swing, and Father in law kept telling me I was swinging out wide and not inside....this video was very helpful in seeing the proper way to start bringing it back, thank you!
The more simpler a golf swing is in its mechanics the more confidence it builds a repeatable swing that you can depend on confidently to go where you wanted to go I love this.
Todd thank you so much as I have been struggling with the take away. This video really made it clear in terms of what I should be doing. Greatly appreciated. I have been doing the single plain swing for several years but I am really starting to understand it. I switched because of back problems and I can play 36 holes if I want to now and I am 64 years old. Thank you again.
Thank you Todd for all excellent videos, since i heard about Moe Norman i got all excited, and continue to get familiarized with him and bought a Garmin R10 (which i havent installed) but i have ready all my indoor set and i been watching your videos and a guy named golf test dummy, and i learn so much in this week of doing my first hits (Never hit a ball before NEVER) only 2 days hitting foam balls and 2 days real balls, and now i can do hits all the middle of my impact screen. and just by watching your videos and Moe Normans. it has helped me a LOT. Every time im about to hit my ball i just hear inside my head... The feeling of greatness ! (Cant imagine how im gonna hit the ball in a year) Thank you !
I’ve been a loyal SPS for a few years and had it nailed down pretty good after a SPE 1 day session. I recently lost it & remembered that I could get it back if I just reviewed the positions & trust the system! It worked & this backswing refresher was the key. Point is I’ve lost it with conventional swing but never had a blueprint like SPS to get it back! Thanks GGA & Clay!
Todd, I can’t thank you enough, it’s as if you’re my personal trainer, just watching your videos is giving me so much information to make my single plane swing so natural. I got this!!!!! Thanks!! Also I love your nuts and bolts seven episodes seems like that’s all I need you explain everything so well, God bless buddy you’re the best!
Hey, Todd I been doing sps for 10 months and have trouble with irons going left and left of that. Driver once awhile. I have the book, board, video too! I hope you canhelp me, I think you are breath of fresh air with the golf swing. Thanks Todd
This is a perfect example of feel isn’t always real. I have struggled with this issue on takeaway until this video clarified it…finally! Thank you for your commitment to better golf- JB
Hi Todd I loved this clear explanation of the sequence in the backswing . The overhead camera makes the club face appear open at address which really bothers me. I would like to see the straight on view of the sequence if you can add it.
That’s something that bothered me also. Now what I do is lay the club just in front of the ball instead of behind it. That’s where I square the face. Then I’ll put the club right behind the ball and yes, it will appear slightly open, however the results are definitely straighter. Remember the ball stays on the face for a moment during the swing. That’s why you want it square just in front of the ball and not behind. Hopefully Todd will weigh in on this.

This is so good and on point. Really clarified lots of things for me as I was messing up the shaft leaning fwd and the take up of the club. Infinite thx Todd.
7:36 - Excellent instruction. No intentional cocking of the wrist, as the folding at the elbow and lifting at the shoulder of the trail arm, along with momentum, will automatically bring the mass of the clubhead past perpendicular to the ground (balance or tipping point) and apply a force on the wrists, thereby cocking them naturally.
This was a struggle point, thanks for the clarity, being a senior $$ are limited, however I did shoot 39 on front last week since watching your vids for last two months only! At 73 I’m happy duffer.
This movement I discovered this weekend before watching this video and was swinging my 8 iron so pure. That video that Moe or you made where he hit the 250m pole 3 times in a row I experienced that. You are so correct in saying that the first part of that takeaway is so crucial what I feel is the club going back to your right foot keeping it all intact Ed and when I come down only can I push that left knee into position if I don’t you can’t get the pure transfer into you left leg and the pivot around what a feeling when done right I get it The results are there My bad I don’t take videos and figured this out the hard way
This was the best video you've ever done this was the one part of the one plane swing I was having trouble understanding what feeling to do it right cuz it's like you said I was having trouble deciphering if it was take it back with your arms or what are you doing because I always had trouble trying to do some type of Boeing or wrist caulking what you said it basically moves back with your chest and torso rotation it was a aha moment are you just turn it back and fold it up into your a stands and then you just do a little slight push off and it goes right into the flexed lead knee and you can't miss the golf ball
Just ordered the alignment package and the putter. I’m having issues with which direction by lead shoulder is suppose be pointing. Is it at the target or facing down as if I am as given blood in my takeaway?
From the hat camera view, why does the leading edge of your iron looks slightly open!?? Is that correct or an illusion? It also looks that the club head is swinging quickly inside. Is this because the right arm is lower because of your tilt?

I ask because I find it incredibly hard to keep my lead arm straight and get good rotation around the ball. I lift a lot of weights and it feels like it's a limitation in that my pecs kind of get in the way of me getting around as far as I probably should and it leads to my lead arm bending a bit. Curious if I should rotate less in order to keep a stiff lead arm or if a slight bend is acceptable in your mind?
Todd, There seem to be a lot of similarities in setup, posture and “braking” lower body and shoulders, as in sitting off of a stool. Hogan talked about imagining hitting off of an old style foldable spectator stool. Are there differences?
Your audience carries mutual enjoyment when you add in-depth views on golf. We know that Moe played with numerous tweaks to his clubs. Can you walk us through the tweaks Moe made to his clubs and the benefits if any, he gained with (say) added lead weight, etc? Did Moe’s physical strength require swing weight changes and as such, improve ball flight or yardage?
Good stuff. I have a question about your alignment board. I know this is nick picking but here goes anyway. I use the board along with a yard stick at times to practice the distance I’m away from ball. So lets say I’m suppose to be 25 inches from the ball for the club I’m using. I just made up this number, I don’t have the recommended distances in from of me. So when I use the yardstick is the 25 inches suppose to be from the front of the board to the ball or from the backside of the alignment board. The alignment board has some width to it maybe 2 inches. When I use the front I do feel I’m stretching pretty good.
@Todd Graves could u give me ur opinion on the things that can cause the shanks using the mo norman method..transition, takeaway, etc..would be really appreciated
@@pc2900 Hosel "leads the toe" into the ball. Often related to a "shallow" swing plane that can occur when hip turn precedes the shoulder turn by too much. The "in and up" dictum to get to position 2 (top of the backswing) gets the club on plane and getting to position 3 ensures the club face is coming in square to the line. Check your video of a shank (down the line) and you will likely see the club coming in BELOW the swing plane, making its approach to the ball too shallow and getting the hosel to the ball before the club face. Steepening the descent (over the top move) will likely cause other problems like topping or fatting the shot. Good luck. :)
Ok Todd, so the takeaway has puzzled me. Jack Kuykendall says Moe took the club back by pulling the right elbow straight back, who have tried with varied success. In Greg Lavern’s book “Reach for the Sky” he said Moe started the back swing by sweeping his left palm away like he did in the drill with the coin. You say turn the one piece ( which is hard because I’m not sure where to focus the energy). What did Moe say about what or how he started the backswing?
What’s interesting is I always noticed Moe’s left shoulder and arm not necessarily lock but flex right before takeaway. In the fireside chat interview he mentioned the importance of the left deltoid, is that where you want to feel that takeaway or essentially feel it from there down through the rod?
9:53 moe almost drags the club head along the ground for the first 6 inches on his takeaway and this is even after he sets the club head at least 6 inches behind the ball to start from
maybe the best way to practice this move is by telling them... in ( start movement of the club without moving hips) then, up (hips start to rotate). Or am i wrong in this? if its correct its easier like that to make click in the brain.
I really would have liked to see you actually strike the ball with this glasses on....how far through the strike do you watch the spot where the ball was sitting? At what point do you start looking up with the rotation of your body?
I think it should be favoring open rather than closed. To be frank, as long as you grip is good and your address is good, and the club fits correctly, I really don't pay much attention to the squareness at address. All of the relationships are correct and it will square at impact. Also, not to get into the crazy detail of this, but at the moment of contact with the ball, the face of the club is open at impact and then squares through the ball separation from the face. I would rather see a slightly open face (not too much) than a closed one.
@@ToddGravesGolf This was exactly what I needed to hear. I have been intentionally squaring the club at address. You can imagine what the results have been. Thank you so much for your time Team Todd.
If you look at history you will find examples of Methods that were scientifically better but were not widely used. Dick Fosbury for example, revolutionized high jumping with the Fosbury Flop - a scientifically better way to jump over the bar. Another example is free-throw shooting. Underhand Free-throw shooting is a more efficient and scientifically better way to shoot a free-throw however, few players use that method in the NBA. There are many examples of this. Regarding the golf swing, as long as the one Mistake is taught in golf (hanging the arms straight down) there will continue to be wide variations of "solutions" to this problem.

the 2 training club's is the club's a 6 or a 5 Irons ?
Todd what are the best size grips for the one plane swing
Depends on your hand size.
From the hat camera view, why does the leading edge of your iron looks slightly open!?? Is that correct or an illusion? It also looks that the club head is swinging quickly inside. Is this because the right arm is lower because of your tilt?
Please demonstrate ball position and swing for 3 wood and hybrids. Thanks

@@ToddGravesGolf Thanks gonna practice that in my pvc drill to capture that feeling!!!
That’s the way to feel it
What’s interesting is I always noticed Moe’s left shoulder and arm not necessarily lock but flex right before takeaway.
Tod slow motion is key in learning. Less talking!
I really would have liked to see you actually strike the ball with this glasses on....how far through the strike do you watch the spot where the ball was sitting? At what point do you start looking up with the rotation of your body?
There’s a slow motion clip of him hitting the ball at 3:16 with the POV glasses on
I'm probably too late to get a response from Todd, but if anyone knows the answer...why does the club face look so open at address in this POV?
Moe: Keep it simple, stupid.
Todd: *makes hundreds of videos breaking down Moe's swing*
NO kidding. I can't believe I need to keep making all of these videos - but I guess I will until everyone is swinging like Moe.
@@ToddGravesGolf I'm trying!

I’m feeling like a sponge lol
Why do none of the top players address the ball like this?,it cannot be the best method
