No need to apologize for the kids. this is my first farming simulator, you’ve been a big help! I’m trying to do the bales to feed my few cows, my game recognized the grass bales as grass and I needed to Ted my grass first, but all is good, thanks for the help
I appreciate you saying “I petted a cow once”. That used to be me, then I tried herding lol almost got caught between a younger bull and a fence place xD and I emphasize BULL lol

Hey Arthur. First off, thanks for great tutorials and videos. Always enjoys watching you. You seemed to be a bit unclear on how the feeding worked with power food. When you mix silage, hay/grass and straw you will get TMR(Total Mixed Ration), not pure power food. TMR consists of 60% basefood and 40% power food. This means that a load of 10,000 TMR will give your cows 4,000 powerfood and 6,000 base food. That's why it will increase the foodlevel other then powerfood. This actually is explained in game if you check the tooltip on the Siloking in the shop. If you already figured this out or if I misunderstood you on the video, my apologies. Don't wanna be the smartass, just helpful. Keep up the good work!
Man don't ever apologize for your family they don't like it they don't need to be on your Channel children come first before anything keep up the awesome work making these videos
I didn't even know you could connect 2 trailers together!! And I spent 2 hrs trying to understand how to feed those damn cows... ty so much for those tutorials
You don't even need a tedder. Adding grass to the siloking automatically turns the grass to hay. All I have is a huge pile of grass, straw, and silage. Then i suck up what I need with the siloking. also i can use the siloking to pump straw for bedding. Great video
Tethering fluffs the hay so it dries faster, if it rains on cut hay you tether it to dry. If you put fresh or wet hay in a barn it can start a fire. some farmers will bale their hay just after cutting it , this is done for a type of cheese production.
Hey i am really happy to have a passionate gamer thats make tutorials ans tips thanks a lot, you are awesome And by the way we have big crone mower on consoles too😉
Didn't know you were a single dad with 6 KIDS?? WOW. You certainly deserve a pass on the noise in the background. I think a dad can be just as good a parent as a mother but with 6 kids it's gonna be hard for anyone. Serious props man.
quote "not sure barley gives you that" in relation to straw, yes it does and yields more straw per acre than wheat, barley straw is softer and better for bedding
I play on PC - When I was a teen I did a lot of consoles (NES, SNES and so forth) but once I started playing with PCs way back in early 90s, I never went back :)
@@kingarthursims i played on pc when i was younger like in the 90s like nascar games and truck simulator. when i was 20 or so, i got a ps2 but it broke or something, then my boyfriend had a xbox one and i decided to get my first xbox like a year ago and just like 2 weeks ago, i got my first ps4. i want to get a pc but they r way too much money.

I had the same problem connecting those 2 tippers, you have to get the other one that's the same capacity, but has the axle in the front, I think it's because one is a ball hitch, not a normal trailer hitch with pin
Hey I live in Wyoming and we turn cows out to summer pasture to graze and they drink some very nasty pond water that I've seen very thirsty horses pass up. Just thought I'd let you know cows can drink water that isn't potable.
Exactly what I came here to post! My 4 year old is obsessed with farming (which is cool, we own a farm!!!!) so we watch A LOT of farming sims. Every time I see this part talking about buying water I giggle. Cows slosh through the irrigation on our neighbors place all day every day. Heck, even my corgi drinks it!!! :D
If you love Rallying you REALLY should get Dirt Rally. I love it, I suck, but I love it, super great fun. Alternatively, track down a copy of Richard Burns Rally, its even more hardcore =3
Oh btw, I found a vehicle that alows a better turn radius with the auto square bale pickup. It is the Tatra truck. I am thinking the 4 wheel steering helps a lot
try 2 silage and 2 hay and leave the straw away. ;) Or if you take an other Feed Mixer from Goretech(?) which only loads 12.000: If you put 1 straw, 1 hay and 1 silage there - the mix will be fine, at least all signs showing green. If you want to have more than one trailer, you can only take one with the tandem-axis as first trailer, every further one has to be one of the standard kind (which are a horror to go backwards). And from KUHN there is a Bale Wrapper for square bales.
Yeah, the Kuhn pack came out after I made this, lol. Oh, The reason I use straw is because it gives you extra mixed ration for "free" You can do the 2-2 mix, but you are using only your grass product which takes a lot of time to make and collect. Adding the straw in makes it go farther giving you more "bang for the buck" Does that make sense?
You are totally right, I didn't have the barkeeper in mind. ;) I just did that for convenience reasons. You don't have to calculate - just 2 silage, 2 hay. Or if you want to use straw, there is the very cheap (12.000 Cr) 3-point-hooked food-mixer I mentioned: It can take 1 straw, 1 hay and 1 silage - which leads to an thirds-mix, but will be 100% treated as 100% power food with that mixer - another advantage of this 3-point-hook mixer is that you don't need any tools to fill it up. It can put up bales from the ground - So you can have the mix-display visual during the whole process. What I don't like with the siloking trailer is the fact that you have to sit in the towing tractor to see the display, but have no idea of the mixing while filling it. What is nice in that term is the silage-bucket from CSZ (which in fact is a Food-Mixer itself - try it out!).
Relating to your "more bang for the buck" - I just came over the fact that straw sometimes even has a higher price for selling than hay, meaning that it is not nescessarily cheaper to use straw (and hay or grass will grow itself, as if you want to have straw, you need to cultivate some kind of grain with all the work coming with it. So if you take the 2-2-Method you can spare all of your straw for the bedding. Besides that, there are (meanwhile) two food-mixer-mods (I'm talking about the PS4-Version) out there, which have an other mixration than 40% silage, 40% hay and 20% straw, but they also will be fine (meaning the outcome will 100% TMR!) with 33% silage, 33% hay and 33% straw, meaning easy to remember: 1 bale of silage, one of hay and last but not least one bale of straw. No calculations needed. ;)
They probably did the silage/hay and power food the way they did so that if your mixture is wrong (i.e. It's not power food) then you can still use it instead of it going to waste
As far as I know, in real life corn silage is not the best silage. I worked on a farm last summer that used it and people kept talking about how it's actually quite bad in comparison to normal grass type silage for a cow's digestive system. Not sure how, I didn't really investigate the matter further. Just thought I'd share, great tutorial BTW!
Actually I remember (1 minute later... lol). Cows' stomachs are quite sensitive. Feed can be not mixed enough, meaning the pieces are too large and it cause problems. It could also be mixed too much, making the feed too fine and that can cause problems too. With corn silage, the material is tougher than that of grass silage and it can bind cows stomachs up.
I have actually heard that the reason we have ecoli is because we feed cows way to much corn silage. They need to be eating grass which breaks down ecoli. You will find that most deeply organic farmers only grass feed their cows.
"Normally a harvester wouldn't pull such a big trailer. Guys we need to keep this prototypical.." * klonk * and disconnects the trailer while driving 20 kph ;-)
So, using the mixer machine fulfills the power food, silage, and hay needs, but I still need to put cut grass (not straw) in the feed trough directly also? Luckily if you are a dad you are likely used to lots of questions lol. How do I know what ratio of fresh grass to feed from the mixer to put in the feed trough (as to avoid putting too much grass so there’s no room for mix food)
In changes per cow, but in the status menu you can see how its filling up. If you do happen to have fresh grass in the mixer, you can always dump it out on a field using right bumper + left bumper + Y
Thanks for another awesome tutorial. I was waiting for this before I added cows to my farm because of the changes. Now I'm good to go.Merry Christmas to you and your kids and God Bless!
I’m using silage bunks @ McLean for storing silage bales ( round ) . Thinkin I’ll get 200 bales per bunk. Did I mention I stockpile hay all over the map?
Love this video I’m playing the ps4 version of this farm simulator 17 and I never knew about the bale wrapper I tried to make silage and scoop it in but I always added to much and screwed it up. The bale wrapper will work because I only have 15 cows. What the name of the tractor you were using to pick up the bales I tried to find it in the console version but I don’t think it had it just like I’ve never seen the robot cleaner in the console version. Some of the mods are very helpful I wish there was a mod to feed your cow like there is for the pigs where it’s a storage tank that you just drive up to and have instant food for your pigs the need that for the cows and sheep. I ran across your channel randomly RUclips suggested it so I clicked on it. Ty.
Glad to have you here and glad you enjoyed the video! I tried to stick with no mods for this video, so you should have all the tractors that are in this video. I have the yellow JCB (the larger of the 2 in the shop), a red Zetor 150, a Green Fendt, and toward the end of the video I also saw a Zetor Proxima. All of these tractors are in the base game.
There must’ve been an update cuz grass bales don’t work anymore as of October 2018. It says that this bake is not supported so that means we ,use have to Tedder the cut grass.
After I put in 2 wrapped grass I try to put in the one unwrapped grass and it says it’s not supported and won’t take it. Do you know why by chance? Thx
With the no bale method, is there a trick to moving silage out of the bunker if I made to much and want to sell? Like, how do I get it to the biogas plant?
Its gonna take some work - Use a conveyor or front loader to load it into a tipper, move it to the biogas plant, dump it, and then shovel or convey it into the loading point.
so i’ve recently been trying to make my mixture and i did what you did just straight up mowed and i have my straw and the other two but when i try to put my grass in it won’t it says that this bale isn’t supported
I’m a single dad to her mother don’t want to know my daughter is 18 years old now she starts university in September I love it when I hear ur kids in the background asking questions my daughter does the same
Idk My name that new holland header that I didn't talk about is for poplars. It turns poplar trees into wood chips. Poplar seedlings are available at the store.
I think the self propelled mixer works like you show in the fs15 on PS3, or would it not pick up grass or straw in the field? I know 15 on PS3 won't let you make a pile. Thanks for the vids. I might have to go buy a ps4 this weekend. :)
Yes, it should be able to pick it up directly from the field. Interesting concept. As far as bugs go, Its not really bugs as much as there are more mod maps available for PC, but there are several mod maps on console already.
The trailers that connect have two different models that sell next to each other. They work like male/female. You have to get one of each and connect the correct one to tractor so that it 'mates' with the other. I see the easy way you can over look that, not Really Well noted when purchasing. Congrats for showing your mistakes as well as successes. Great Tutorial!
Great tutorial... Guess I'm going to buy come cows IRL... 😊😊 Only trouble here is my Siloking won't accept grass. I have made it the same way as you. Has there been an update of the gameplay since you made the tutorial? So it has to be hay and not grass?
You can either deliver it or go into the "shop" menu. In the shop menu, click on "garage" and then press the very top menu arrow keys until it says "leased". Then you can press the return button. Be careful to return stuff as soon as you are done because there is an hourly charge.
Thank you Rob! I actually still need to make one - I am hoping to have some time right after the New Year to make it. Pigs can be pretty complicated, but they make some good money in the end.

No in real life unless it's wet or has rained after you mowed the grass you don't use a tedder for your hay. I grew up on a dairy farm.
That is what Kyle says too. He is in Colorado and they don't ted at all ever. Depends on where you live I guess.
I’m using silage bunks @ McLean for storing silage bales ( round ) . Thinkin I’ll get 200 bales per bunk. Did I mention I stockpile hay all over the map?
Keeps the frame rates happy lol
i really enjoy ur video
I don't hear them at all but good work keep it up :)
hehe - they are definitely in some of them :)
Hi mate
Love the videos
Awesome.
Do you know how I get the pens for the cows as at the moment I am storing them elsewhere on the map
I don't think 17 has add on pens. I think the animals have to go in the pens that are already on the map. In 19 you can add pens though.
Arthur and Simone Chapman
Cheers mate
I wonder if you had to force dump the chaff, because you started the silo with grass.
Maybe, though I have heard people say that the same is true on Goldcrest at the animal pens.
There must’ve been an update cuz grass bales don’t work anymore as of October 2018. It says that this bake is not supported so that means we ,use have to Tedder the cut grass.
Banana gaming that is correct. They changed it about a year ago
After I put in 2 wrapped grass I try to put in the one unwrapped grass and it says it’s not supported and won’t take it. Do you know why by chance? Thx
You should make like the part 2and/or3 depending how long the video is
Why though? Making it into more videos is frustrating for most people because they then have to hunt around for the next part.
Grass will have to be wrapped. You have to put in straw, hay, and silage (wrapped grass). You can't put grass bales straight in.
Six kids, was your ex Jessica Rabbit?
That was a great tutorial, thank you. Look forward to seeing more of your videos.
glad you enjoyed it!
Can you do a Tutorial on the Lely cleaning robot?
I’m a single dad to her mother don’t want to know my daughter is 18 years old now she starts university in September I love it when I hear ur kids in the background asking questions my daughter does the same
Thankfully (sort of) their mom is doing better and she has been in in their life a lot more lately
@@kingarthursims that’s nice
Thanks! but when i try to put the hay bale in the mixer it says that this bale is not supported:(
Are you sure you are putting hay in? Be sure its not a grass bale - grass bales aren't supported in the mixer
You can hitch two trailers together by selecting the other tool XD
OOOPS ;)
Why would you put a 'thumbs down' to this video??
I SAID THE SAME THING :) - but lets face it - trolls are real.
What's that last header used for that's for the forge harvester?
Idk My name that new holland header that I didn't talk about is for poplars. It turns poplar trees into wood chips. Poplar seedlings are available at the store.
so the plastic machine makes those grass bales into silage ? in stead of doing it in the concrete thing ?
Amnesia Haze yes, that is correct, fast and easy
nice thx i always wondered why the plastic around it made it worth like 4 times as much money
I think the self propelled mixer works like you show in the fs15 on PS3, or would it not pick up grass or straw in the field? I know 15 on PS3 won't let you make a pile. Thanks for the vids. I might have to go buy a ps4 this weekend. :)
Oh, and I heard you mention a few issues with console version, any more you can recall on that? I would most likely end up with a PS4 version.
Yes, it should be able to pick it up directly from the field. Interesting concept. As far as bugs go, Its not really bugs as much as there are more mod maps available for PC, but there are several mod maps on console already.
I'm sure two years later you probably know this, but you can wrap square bales with the Kuhn dlc
John Handley yeah, this was recorded pre Kuhn dlc :)
is it bad i have enough time to watch all the way and not miss anything going on in my life
I definitely have those times myself :)
+1 subscriber just because of this video
Welcome aboard Carson! Glad to have you in the community.
Great tutorial... Guess I'm going to buy come cows IRL... 😊😊
Only trouble here is my Siloking won't accept grass. I have made it the same way as you. Has there been an update of the gameplay since you made the tutorial? So it has to be hay and not grass?
Kristoffer Falk yes, they just changed this in version 1.4. You now have to ted the grass first for it to work with tmr.
The square bale wrapper is available now
Much respect for you being a single father
Thank you Luke! - Its challenging, but I got great kids.
very useful, thanks Arthur :)
Hey wolf, you are very welcome.
I busted out laughing on the Despicable Me3 trailer..... its bust a gut funny.....
I will check it out!
We love u Arthur!!!!!!!
Thanks Carolyn!
The siloking is not working for me at all the one you used at the end
You can Stick that Collection Wagon onto the big x
LucaLuftläufer yes, but it’s not how they do it IRL
When you lease machinery does it automatically go back or do you have to deliver it to the store??
You can either deliver it or go into the "shop" menu. In the shop menu, click on "garage" and then press the very top menu arrow keys until it says "leased". Then you can press the return button. Be careful to return stuff as soon as you are done because there is an hourly charge.
do you have a guide for pigs your channel is the best for tutorials
Thank you Rob! I actually still need to make one - I am hoping to have some time right after the New Year to make it. Pigs can be pretty complicated, but they make some good money in the end.
Its more expensive if you do bales but a lot neater
I haven't been able to get the "vacuum cleaner" to raise and lower. How do you do that?
Its the same controls as the front loader, it also can open and close, like the log forks.
Arthur Chapman Thank you. It seems like the one in 15 had a control such that it was up or down.
