Un-synchronized, straight cut H-pattern box... Very challenging gearbox which requires user-awareness of engine, transmission, and differential speeds at all times. This guy is doing a fine job at driving it. I've seen lots of videos of clueless collectors driving these who clearly don't know how the gearbox works at all or even understand how manual rev-matching works.
There is'nt comparation with the Laffite '92 test. Still here is the best car and ebgine ever, but went Laffite try the LM, in my opinion the engine set up was mapped at the top power: 900 hp. And is incredible how 180 horses, do the difference. For sure this driver would'nt to be compared with a F1 driver, but that video is very extraordinary. Also because is possible understund what such of means are the F1 or in any case, the prof. drivers. This one, i don't understand why, move the steering during the corners also at low speed, was be at thelimits. And don't try to do the hell toe, on gears downshift.

paolo ciarpaglini Same dude. I run this car in Forza on Nürburgring all the time seeing what time I can get and then I compare to real life times. I actually once beat the 6:11 on Nordschleife once in the car by like 2 seconds.
@@impossibru5721 The F40 LM is a pure racecar. The GT2 RS MR is a road car. So it's possible that the F40 is faster. Besides, the F40 is mid engine, therefore, the center of mass has better location than the GT2 RS which has the engine in the back.
@@rammerwannabe4283 i love this car but i think on track @ Norschleife the GT RS2 is a beast. With very good Breaks and good handling to drive it on the edge. It is harder to control the F40LM - you have to be a good driver . You can see how much he has to work in slow corners with the F40 LM.

Driving with a gated shifter is difficult let alone with a dog box, I think the driving is OK. Ive been in a few cars with straight cut gears and the shifts can be brutal if the timing is off alittle bit. Its not like on my motorcycle or dirtbikes where I can shift fairly smoothly without the cluch all the time, its harder in a car IMO.. let alone an old Ferrari with a gated shifter that you don't drive all the time.

its called dog gears. it doesnt "require" help from the clutch as the dog gears (straight cut gears) are stronger and they transition quicker. but the downside is that it won't last long and (for some people) the gear whine can drive people insane when driving.
As on all youtube videos the commenting guys know always better, drive always better, do all things better ... big deal that almost none of them has ever seen an F40 in life, what to say about to drive one ... or own one ... I have crashed few things while learning. You can't learn to swim without to get wet, but when you get something rare and special, even if you like to push it, you never go on it's limits ;) I know if the F40LM was mine, I would be careful while trashing on track :)
Maybe if you guys actually looked at the BIG WHITE BALL at the end of the gear stick & followed it down to the gear box. You would notice there's no reverse (you may of seen at the beginning of the vid but not thought much of it) so due to no reverse they have placed 1st gear where 2nd would be. So you try driving an F40, fast & smoothly with the gears all back to front..like to see you come out the first corner. Awesome driving skills & hitting the limiter in 5th on a track in a F40 epic drivin
Ye F40s ran at Le Mans in 94, 95 and 96 I believe. Definiltely 95, I was there, they were a green and blue livery and all light blue car plus others. White and green maybe also.
Very carefully.... no seriously, he's matched the two rotating rates (gear on input to gear on output) by shifting precisely with a fast rpm drop (extremely light flywheel). It's not impossible to do, but it does take practice

54 seconds is a very fast time at Lime Rock. By comparison, I have a full race bmw 2002 with nearly 250hp on slicks that will manage about a minute flat. The fastest PCA GT1R class 800hp/2100lb Porsche turbos will run 52-53 seconds. Awesome car.

Hi Jason Good Vid but an FYI . Set GoPro to SPt . Spot meter is primarily for shooting from inside of a car or other dark space looking out into a brighter outside setting. Spot meter adjusts the exposure for the absolute center of the scene, for example the road ahead instead of the interior of the car. If you are wanting optimum exposure of the inside of the car, filming mainly the driver for example, choose Cnt center weighted average to expose for the inside of the car.
It was oversteering with a push here or there . It’s hard to get a feel for the true speed of the car in this video . It just looked like it had cold tyres and was never happy.
The Bugatti's not the same thing. It's a plushy alcove allowing to travel at enormously high speeds in comfort. It's not even a sports car. It's just a very fast car, and don't get me wrong, I love the Veyron as any other gearhead, but it's not the same thing. The F40 LM (and by extension, the latter GT/E) was the baddest and meanest motherfucker in its business, and its business was winning GT races. It's cramped and hot as hell and requires nerves of steel just to turn the ignition keys on.
With all respect to Veyron as an engineering feat, the sensation is all too different. Veyron gets away with all the electronic gubbins, 4WD, anti-lag for its turbo, and all the technological fripperies... This F40... Have you ever heard on how laggy the turbo in this car?! If you had something called sense then you could tell this is a H pattern box not sequential. On cars without computers you can upshift without the clutch but you need to get the rpm right. group b Audi quattro's used to have a button on the gearknob to short circuit the ignition to make this easier.
@joao625 its not a lie, its literally called clutchless shifting. Those tranny's your talking about have helical cut gears thats allow it to disengage and engage w/i the clutch exept from a start. They also need to use the clutch on downshifts with those gearboxes.
It is a Dog Box with straight cut gears thats why you hear that high pitch squeal. In a dog box you can only upshift without the clutch. They are great but you must be very good at heel/toe shifting because these transmissions MUST be rev matched on downshifts. You will snap the input shaft if you dont.

What? Clutch is always used when shifting both up and down, heel-and-toe involves using the brake and the accelerator, it's actually a technique to keep revs up when braking before a corner in the brief moments when the clutch is down for downshifting.
