Oh cool, excited for you haha It is a little tricky at first but you will get the hang of it 👍 If you have any questions feel free to drop them in the comments. Have a nice week.
It is really nice to have some nice portraits of yourself and it was actually quite enjoyable to make even if the app is pretty terrible haha Interval shooting with Pre AF turned on might work better.
This video is really well-done! I have the X-T20 and yes, the Cam Remote app is hot trash, but it gets the job done especially when I’m not able to utilize a tether. Anyway - I loved the video and it inspired me to shoot some of my own. I will have some new portraits for work soon! Yay!
Hey Joshua, thanks very much man appreciate that glad it inspired you to try it yourself. There is a new version of the remote shutter app which is supposed to be a lot better by the way. I am planning on doing another self portrait video trying it out very soon 👍
Wow, I'm impressed . Thank for for sharing. I think you got a few keepers. I stumbled on your videos while searching about fujifilm Xt5 which I recently bought. I'm glad I watched your video. Food for thought. One of these days I want to have a go at this. Did you edit these phots with any presets? Really like the tone.
Thanks very much, I ended up getting quite a few shots that I really liked. I would highly recommend giving it a try, it does feel a little strange at the beginning but when I got in the zone it was pretty enjoyable. Plus it's always nice having some good portraits of yourself to look back on you know. Also for the edits yes I actually used a preset called Redwood from our preset pack. I'll drop the link to the preset pack here (always feels weird plugging your own stuff in a comment but that's what I used haha) www.macnteens.com/store/p/the-explorer-pack-lightroom-presets-by-mac-n-teens
Great video, thanks for sharing. Can I just ask, how did you set up your focus? Did you use an auto-focus setting and if so can you share the details. If manual, how did you ensure that your eyes were in focus? How does auto-focus work when you are using the remote.
Hey Brian! So when you use the Fujifilm app for a remote shutter It seems like there is only one option for focusing which is a single point focus. So you just tap wherever you want and it focuses. There were a few shots I took where it missed focus slightly because I moved a little which was tricky. The app isn't great to be fair because the quality you seen on your phone screen is pretty bad which makes it hard to tell what exactly was in focus at the time. Portraits are probably the the most difficult thing to use the remote shutter for lol It actually worked for most of the shots though in the end. Hope that helps 👍
This is probably a lot to ask but would you be able to share the settings you used? Things like ISO and aperture and shutter speed? I have a new fujifilm x-t4 that I'm learning to use and getting into photography really for the first time.
Hey there! It's all good, if you don't as you may never know haha So the settings were pretty similar for most of the shots. I used the lowest aperture for them all which on my lens was F2.8 this gives a nice blurry background and adds some depth to the portraits. I tried to use a shutter speed of around 1/100 if I could but for some I shot at 1/50 or 1/60. Then for the ISO I tried to keep it as low as I could so it ranged from 160 to 400. If you don't have enough light and have to increase the ISO a lot you will lose some sharpness. Hopefully that helps. Feel free to ask if you have anymore questions :) Or join the discord where we talk about all this type of stuff (Link is in the bio of our latest videos) 👍
Hey there, I did actually notice that the other day and I plan on doing another self portrait video using it quite soon. Hopefully they made the necessary improvements haha
Haha It is definitely quite hard to know what to do and framing + focusing is a little tricky. I think after a few times you would get the hang of it though. It'll be nice to have some portraits to look back on in future I think.
I set autofocus with eye priority and while the counter is working the AF square follows correctly my eyes but at the moment of shooting the photo, the focus moves from the eye and focuses to other places like my noise. Am I doing something wrong?
Yes this is the problem I was having too. It looks like auto focus is working but when you use the app only single point focus actually works. So you have to tap on your phone screen and then it only focuses once. Eye Auto does not work. There is a new Fujifilm app though that I believe fixes this issue. I am actually planning on doing another self portrait video trying it out soon 👍
@@MacnTeensVisuals yesterday I tested the self portrait with the app + timer and I get higher rate of keeps, but I'm not sure whether this is real solution or maybe I'm just imagining it...
It wasn't too bad after the first few tbh haha The XT30 does do interval shooting but not through the app I don't think. I wanted to try the app out plus it's makes it easier to frame the shot how you want you know.
I honestly thought I would have the same issue using the app but somehow they were almost all in focus haha If you use the app to line up your framing and then switch to interval shooting in camera with Pre AF turned on the camera will auto focus continuously and focus on your eye. I think i will try this method next time for self portraits.
not finished the video yet as wnted to step in at relevant points. The app is an utter disgrace, not useful at all. Freezees, focusing is garbag. good idea but in reality doesn't work. I also noticed tha when you go into self-timer mode , autofocus continuous is deactivated and single focus is activated in its place which is utterly uselss for self portraits so essentially you don't get the fac/eye detection. I've tried dabbling and cannot work this out - I just end up blurring myself out. Hopefully the rest of the video will shed some light on how to fix this but not holding my breath
The first set of photos I took were using window light only. The title says at home and the video was at home, that doesn't mean no lights etc. Settle down 👍
Gonna get the X t30 for Christmas. Can't wait to see my attempt at self portraits

Any of you guys tried self portraits before? I'd love to know which photo you think turned out the best btw, let me know 👍 Have a nice weekend!
You’re good at this haha. Not everybody can do self-portraits 👏 👏
Haha Cheers Phoenix to be honest I actually surprised myself with how many I ended up getting. It's hard to know what to do at times 😂 Thanks though 😀
I need to do this! I have a Fujifilm XT4.

Thanks very much, planning to try this again soon 👍🏼
Beautiful simple portraits. Easy on the eyes. Did you use any fuji film simulations while clicking?
Hey there & thanks very much appreciate it. All the photos were shot in RAW then edited in Lightroom 👍
Great shots! I would have liked to see one of the "Covid hair"... LOL!!! Keep up the great work!
Cheers John! Haha I'm not sure you would 😂 Thanks again, more to come 👍
All the colored shots were amazing portraits... take care!!
Thanks very much Shyamal glad you like them. It was a fun one to shoot 😀👍

great
Thank you man!
Added lights behind window
Hey there, what do you mean?
where'd you get the anchor bracelet??
I got it from a brand called DoubleUFrenk they don't sell it anymore but they did have some cool stuff when I last looked lol
Tried a couple of times quite a while ago. It was hilarious. Didn’t know what I was doing. It was fun though.

Can you use timer and Fuji app?
Yes If I remember right I think I used the 2 second timer... I think lol
Are the pictures you’re posting throughout the video already edited?
Hey, yep all the photos have already been edited. I shot them all in RAW.
where do you go for a studio like this with all the fancy lighting? do you like hire one out?
I'm not sure if you are joking or not... 😂 This was just shot in our apartment with one softbox and some window light haha

That seemed tedious as hell. I recommend getting an intervalometer and just shooting dozens of shots and pick the ones you like at the end.

It's just called Fujifilm Camera Remote 👍
