Prime Lenses - Watch This Before You Buy!
Prime Lenses - Watch This Before You Buy! I have tried out a few different prime lenses on my Fuji cameras over the past year and I wanted to share my thoughts about it and hopefully help some of you figure out which focal length might work best for you. I tried out a 23mm F1.4 a 35mm F2 and a 56mm F1.7, each has it's positives and it's negatives. Ultimately it comes down to your type of photography and how you want things to look, but I think you will find this one interesting and hopefully helpful.

Viltrox 56mm f1.7 - The Budget Fujifilm Lens You NEED! This week we tried out the 56mm F1.7 lens from Viltrox. I have wanted to try out a 50mm prime lens for a while and this week I got the chance to. This was a little tricky but also a fun lens to try out for a few reasons and I thought I would share my thoughts on the focal length and this lens in particular which sells for £175 brand new. Ho...

Outdoor Natural Light Portrait Photography - 35mm F2 - This week we decided to try some portrait photography. I've been wanting to improve my portrait photography lately so we grabbed the cameras and headed to a little forest trail to see what we could get. I love the Fujifilm XF 35mm F2 for portraits so along with the X-T3 that's all I used for all the portraits in this one. Overall I'd say it...

WATCH THIS Before Trying F-Log | Fuji F-Log Cinematic Video Beginner's Guide. This week I tried Fujifilms Log profile F-Log on my Fuji X-T3. I had previously tried F-Log with my X-T30 using 8-Bit 200mb files but now that I have the X-T3 I wanted to see how it would go trying F-Log using 10-Bit 400mb files. Long story short, this is a to the point Fujifilm F-Log color grading test. Hope you find...

Street Photography With The Fujifilm X-T3 & X-T30. So last week we went on a short trip to Edinbrugh in Scotland. We did some exploring around the city and took some photos with the X-T3 35mmF2 & the X-T30 with the 18-55mm. It was a little tricky at times but I managed to get some photos I really quite like. Summer is nice but having the lovely low winter light all day worked out very nicely on...

Which lens have you used
We use the XF 18-55mm for pretty much all our video stuff 👍
What editing software do you use? Great video!
Hey & thanks very much! I use premiere pro for all my editing and color grading 👍
What is the warm filter called? The one you applied to the shot photos after?
This is just one of our presets we used to edit the photos 👍You can check them out here - www.macnteens.com/store/p/the-explorer-pack-lightroom-presets-by-mac-n-teens

very insightful, thank you
Thanks very much, hope it was helpful 🙂
You can never have enough😂
😂 Getting a new lens is always a good time I would agree.
Rocking the 35mm f/2 and the 16mm f/2.8. They're a great 2 lens setup. Always have the 18-55 just in case. Will definitely be getting the viltrox 56 f/1.7 at some point, seems like a no brainer lens. Where did you do shoot this video? Is that The Sperrins?
Still rocking with my 18-55 for more than 2 years on the X-T30 II, but really looking for that Viltrox 56mm option which you reviewed earlier :) Although I do miss some of the "pancake" formats I had before with my Canon 77D (the 24mm from Canon was super cool). I think a 27mm version exists from Fuji. Very cool video and informative ! Loved it !
Absolutely no problem with that it's a great all rounder 👌 It seems to be a pretty solid performer especially for the price. Yeah pancake lenses are great especially for travelling etc I really fancy trying out that 27mm too, seems like it might be the perfect focal length for me. Thanks man appreciate that ✌
The image with the gothic tower and the birds was a great shot. Well done!
Cheers Peter appreciate that. Those birds deserved to be paid for their work 😂
Fujinon 23mm f/2 + Sigma 56mm F/1.4 cover 99% my needs
Really nice combo right there has you covered for pretty much everything 👌
Your accent is terrible, can you not try and talk a bit more Bangor
What prime lens do you guys use for your photography? 📷
sigma 16 and 56mm, fuji 23mm and 33mm. Couldnt choose one of those, collector me, had to get all of them. Mostly use the fuji ones, 33mm a bit more than 23mm. But you are right, i take mostly 2 primes and a zoom with me and the rest stays at home. Rarely i take all of them with me, out of fear that i than switch lenses all the time and not making pictures :P
That's a nice selection right there, I would like to try the 33mm myself just that little bit wider might be nice haha That's exactly how I think too, I don't want to be thinking about lenses and constantly swapping it's a bit of a faff 😂
@@MacnTeensVisuals the 33mm is pretty nice, i like the 50mm (full frame) view a bit more than 35mm (FF).
Really great video. For instances where you have to long a prime lens you can some times take multiple shots and stitch them together in post.
@@dean_to2878 Thanks, hope it was helpful. That's a great point I did think of that while I was editing but left it out. A good solution if you're stuck 👍
🙏🏻
😀✌
Thank you guys so much for these amazing videos! They are so appreciated I have learned so much from you 😊

Do you use film recipes or just edit them with a Lightroom preset? Anyways, nice shots
Thanks appreciate it :) I use our Lightroom presets to edit all the photos 👍
Great video. Thanks!
Thank you, hope it was helpful 👍
What do you ask for when scanning your film?
I just get high res tiff files. I don't ask for any particular look. The lab I use has just got consistent results that I really like.
Lovely model. Nice job.
Not bad at all now is she 😜haha Cheers!
Can I use xt 30 for professional work?
Absolutely, it may lack a few features of more expensive cameras in Fuji's range but it's still a little beast.
I just bought this camera yesterday! Going to take it for my first spin this weekend!
Great choice, I think you'll love it. Have a good one ✌🏼📷
Which lense did you use to shoot this video? Is it color graded? Thanks for reply
We used the X-T30 with the 18-55mm for all the video shots. We used a film sim and made a few tweaks during editing. 👍
Very nice., love the colors, Did you shoot using a Sim or was it Log? Thanks...
Thanks very much! It was all shot using the Astia soft film simulation with some adjustments during editing 👍
Thank u. Which camera is used for to shoot this video?
Hey, glad you liked it. We used the X-T30 to shoot all the video 👍
Why do you try to sound American? I can definitely hear your Irish accent
Well that's new 🤣 I am definitely not trying to sound american.
Yess! I loove this lens. It's the perfect companion (especially for travelling).
Nice one! I did find it a bit too tight for the city at times but in more open areas it would be great for sure 👍
Great review, that lens has always been on my radar, would be my first alternative lens after rocking the 18-55 for 2 years now with the X-T30 II. Is the lack of stabilisation not a deal breaker ? With X-T3 / T30 II and lack of IBIS I think the evening shots should be much more difficult, specially with that longer focal.
If you like something a little longer then It's certainly a good option to add to the kit. Honestly I forgot about IBIS haha I only shot during the day but at night the low aperture would really help keep the shutter high enough for no motion blur I think.
I still think you two have such good colors in your video color grades, great stuff guys!!
Thanks very much appreciate that, glad you like it. 😀✌
Congrats! Just found your channel, but I look forward to catching up on the back catalog 👍
Hey there & thank you very much. Hope you enjoy the other videos :)
If I didn’t have a 56 already, I would consider this. That lens hood though, that looks so shallow! And it has that shape that lens hoods for wide angle lenses has. It almost looks like a mistake, surely it should be a longer one. The lens has a pretty tight FOV after all.
It performs pretty well for the price I must say. Yeah I did hear that mentioned in reviews too, apparently it's the same hood they use for wider lenses which is just a money saving thing on there part I think. Not ideal but doesn't bother me too much, at least not yet anyway haha
@@MacnTeensVisuals Honestly it wouldn’t bother me either, I never use lens hoods.
Would you want this lens in your kit?
Really tempted to have it
@@johansebastian836 Getting a new lens is always tempting haha
Nice video. Solid advice. I some square shooting experience with a Kiev 60 and found myself nodding along.
Thanks appreciate that, love to hear it. I would love to try out a few other square format cameras.
@@MacnTeensVisuals The Kiev is great. Both waist level and pentaprism options. Excellent lenses.
@@NattyHumpo Sounds nice, would be nice if the Yashica had a prism viewfinder too although I do love the waist level finder.
I really don't know what's more beautiful...... The video quality, the amazing landscape or the color grade. Fabulous work
Thanks very much :) It was fun putting this one together and I must say I am really happy with how it came together.
Realistic review. Thank-you!
Thanks appreciate it. Thats exactly what I tried to do 👍🏼
Say “purple burglar alarm” three times fast.
👍🏼
Brilliant test thank you!
Thanks very much, hope it was helpful 😊✌🏼
I truly believe FE is one of the most balanced cameras in terms of look, functionality and price
I haven't tried out many other 35mm film cameras yet but from my experience I would have to say you are probably right. It's a great camera to use and looks so good too 👌
Awesome. How I see it it's simplest idea than the scale. Imagine you metering 3x for shadows, highlights and mids. If your reading are within 3 stops difference you are good to go as you will be having highlights at 8 in the scale and your shadows at 3.
💩
First, you are very talented ! As a beginner in filmmaking and documentaries (but who love photo too), I hesitate so much between Sony ZV-E10 and Fujifilm XT-30 (I or II). The Sony ZV-E10 is one of the most highly recommended everywhere for a good kickstart, but when I see such a beautiful video, I have the feeling that this one is a hidden gem even for beginners. Fujifilm XT-30 I or II has an aesthetic touch in photo and video for only some 100 bucks added, with a far better kit lens, it seems.
Hey & thanks very much 🙂 Honestly we haven't used the Sony ZV-E10 but I think we made a great choice with the X-T30 it's an amazing little camera for both photo and video and works perfectly for the style of films we create. 👍
Sláinte! I have been enjoying your vids. Just picked up an X-T30 II. What's your external mic solution given it has a 2.5mm jack?
Hey there ✌ Thanks very much appreciate that. I just use a little adapter to solve that problem. Here is the link to the ones I got - MIC ADAPTOR - amzn.to/3khi9cB Just to let you know this is an affiliate link that we have in video descriptions. I'm sure there are many other options but this one has been fine for us 👍
@@MacnTeensVisuals Dia dhuit! Will get that for sure. Thanks so much again! Keep shootin'!
It seems some of these images were taken with a Hasselblad
Haha You have an eagle eye. I actually just wanted to put a black border around them and used this one not realising it was a Hassleblad negative border lol
I like to get the best of both worlds. I take my 120 camera and fill em with 35mm for sprocket hole shots. Please don't call the cops about that joint in my new video, I promise it was all special effects. Subbed!
I think that getting the best of both 35mm and 120 is the way to go there is definitely a time and place for both. Thanks for the support we appreciate it :)
Thanks for this great insight into square format photography! Helps me to think outside the box!
Hey there! Glad it was helpful, thank you! Square format is great and can work in so many different environments I think.
Filum
Indeed 👌
How do you find it using this camera in a light drizzle? I know it's not weather sealed, but is it extremely risky to take it outdoors when it's not dry?
I certainly wouldn't recommend it especially if your lens isn't weather sealed but we have had it out in drizzle a few times for a short period of time and it seems okay.
Love it!
Cheers appreciate it 😊✌🏼
Amazing shots , love the 360 one :) Christina did great!
Thank you! Yeah it turned out a lot better than expected haha She sure did for a first time trying these lol
What did you guys think of the shots? 🎥
