Are you kidding me?! I can't believe it's this simple and yet it really works! I wanted to throw away my waffle maker because it's such a hard task to clean it up! You're so smart, thanks for sharing! You saved the earth and saved me money!!! (It's been 6 years since you posted this. I hope you and your family are doing well.)
Thank You!! I've been using this method for years. Hope it works for you too. Just be careful until you get used to it. Use less water at first. Thanks for watching😃
Same here. I'm house setting for my niece and her husband and wanted to help her catch up on some house cleaning. I wasn't sure how to do this so came to youtube for assistance. Thank you. I never would have thought of running water through it..
I have to say, this is absolutely brilliant!! Like other commenters, I’ve struggled with cleaning, especially as getting even a tiny bit of soap residue out is a nightmare, but this is such a simple and effective method! Thank you so much for sharing.
I’d never have thought of this. I’ve had a few cheap waffle makers over the years that I’ve not been able to give a good clean, just a basic clean. Yesterday I got a really expensive one and made potato rosti in it. What a greasy mess! Hubby was trying to clean and eventually got it just as I found your fab video, so it will be a great help next time. Thank you so much
I spent at least an hour cleaning mine with a wet dishcloth and q-tip. Then it hit me…RUclips, and what do you know here you are with the simple answer. Thank you so much and God bless you. I was ready to give mine away. Throw it away not deal with it. We can continue to have sourdough waffles.
After using paper towels and trying other methods, I started doing this as well. It works! Just using paper towels I wasn't able to get all of the oil/grease off from around the rim and sometimes the waffles would stick the next time I used it. If you have burnt on oil it may take several times to get it all off using this method, but it will come off.
I just did this on my regular waffle iron, non-flip kind. It worked perfectly! I haven't used it in over a year and apparently put it away with butter or spray in it! It smelled horrible! I used soapy water and it cleaned itself! Thank you!
Thank You!! I’ve done that before, it gets sticky and definitely a pain to clean any other way. I’m all about the self cleaning method😂Thanks for watching😃
I have this same model. Made waffles this morning and was dreading cleaning it as I was getting it down off the shelf. Came straight to YT before I just gave up on it. Found you, and I’m gonna try it next time! Thanks! ❤. Mine is over 10 years old but only gets used a few times a year, so I know it still has plenty of life left in it, so I’m not ready to let go of it. 😉
Hello, I’m super late to the party, but I wanted to say thank you. My parents bought us this maker years back and I never really knew how to properly clean it. I watched your video tonight and wow! Thank you so much. 😃👍🏻
Got the same waffle maker i use the spray oil when cooking on waffle maker and it cleans it very well with this method thanks after i use paper towel to to wipe of anything that still left
I was LITERALLY headed OUT the door to take back my waffle maker and get a more expensive one to have the removable plates because it just took me 20 minutes to clean it! I will try this out and see what happens from there!! Thank you and God bless you in many ways!!
I've used an All-Clad Belgian Waffle maker for like 15 years? It's a great appliance BUT, it's so not easy to clean. I tried this technique, and it really helped. Here's how I did it: Preheat the waffle maker on high, and slowly pour water into the grates. (It'll bubble and sputter, be careful), slowly close the lid so it can perform its magic. Let the heat cook off the steam. After a few minutes, turn if off/unplug the chord from the outlet, and open the lid. All of the baked-on stuff should be loose enough to remove, I used a very small wooden spoon to work between the grates. Take a microfiber cloth, lay it on the grates, and moisten it with water, close the lid. Eventually, open the lid, and I used both the cloth and the spoon to get out the little bits I missed. Now, the lids open as it air dries. Yes, it was fussy, if you have the same style of the maker, there's no getting around it, this is what you are going to have to do. The new waffle irons have removable grates, that'll be what I purchase if I ever upgrade.
Thanks for the advice. I haven’t used my waffle maker very much and I wasn’t sure how I cleaned it the last time I used it. I just told my husband that I’m sure I can google it and find out the best way to clean the waffle iron. Sure enough RUclips saves the day again.
Thank You!! I used to hate cleaning mine the old way of trying to hang it over the edge of the sink without submerging it. This is so much easier. Thanks for watching 😃
Thank You!! We’re planning on posting some hopefully this Fall. The kids have been keeping us super busy. It was easier when they were younger, especially trying to record outside.
This worked great! I don't have the double fancy waffle Iron where it has a holder to flip it. So I have to be really careful. I poured it on the bottom griddle first and let it steam and turned it upside down using a towel and holding only the plastic areas. Then I did the same thing to the top. Worked great. But BE VERY CAREFUL not to touch the metal because it is SUPER HOT of course! Thank you!!
As a electrical engineer I strongly advise against using water as shown in a live environment. Rather let it get hot 1st then disconnect by pulling the plug off the wall ( because the switch only cuts off the live line not the neutral !) then put ur water in & not to max height but perhaps half way to allow steam to build up. It really is very dangerous to work with water & live electricity.
Yeah, based on your channel name, I’m not convinced you’re an engineer of anything. You realize that these types of appliances are designed for wet batter that have water in them. I have half a dozen small appliances that I fill with water while cooking, electric skillets are a perfect example. You never submerge any electrical appliances of course while plugged in. You only need to heat up the waffle maker and then turn it off, which means you would unplug it too. You’re already done cooking at this point so why would you need to keep it plugged in? I don’t think small children are cleaning waffle irons so there was no reason for me to explain that in the video.
My waffle iron has removable plates so I can Clean those up easily BUT I actually have the 2 in 1 waffle/grill thing so its square shaped and has a lot fo nooks and crannies wherein extra waffle batter/melted cheese goes in from. I tried to clean it but its just not clean enough for me. DP you have any idea how I should get to them?
Yes, I was just about to throw this thing away lol trying not to electrocute myself tryna clean it. I had it stored away apparently with butter stuck all on it .with my handy sink brush and this method worked like a charm omg thanks so much
Thanks for watching, it’s helped me many times when I didn’t feel like cleaning it immediately after we ate. Especially when it has brown sugar stuck on it.
Thank you! I was going to surprise my wife with waffles. Batter was sick everywhere. I spent 1/2 hour getting that out and followed what you do. Worked great.
Thank You!! Glad it helped you, definitely the only way I clean mine. I still use this one every couple of weeks and I’ve had it for years. Thanks for watching 😃
I have this same waffle maker now. It's okay, but doesn't make as big or as consistently browned waffles as the Uno waffle maker I had before. It only made one, but it was huge! Hands down, the best waffle maker I've ever seen/used. Don't know why they quit making them. I tried to find a new one online, but no success. Other than making great waffles, the best feature was the removeable grid. You could wash it in the sink or dishwasher. Loved that!
I never heard of that waffle maker before. I hate it when you find something perfect and they discontinue it. I guess I got lucky with the one I got, it works perfectly. Thanks for watching 😃
Thank you! I just got this same waffle maker from a friend but her daughter left it full of dry batter & stuck on oil or cooking spray. No manual either. I was trying to clean it but since you can't completely open both top & bottom at same time I was really frustrated. Thinking how long after I clean 1 side &let it dry am I gonna have to wait to do other side &then wait for that side to dry. What a pain &time consuming I was thinking it would be. You saved me so much time & effort, I can't thank you enough!
If I don't use water at some point, it's hard for me to accept that something I cook with is really clean. So I'm glad I found this video. How long after this process did the waffle iron last? I have the exact same one, so I want to know if it shorted or anything. Thank you.
This video is 5 years old, I still have and use this waffle iron often. You’re not submerging it, the plates are meant to get wet, the batter is wet. Everyone I know cleans theirs the same way with zero issues. Just be careful, I’ve done it many times before recording this video. You may want to let it cool down before adding the water slowly. Thanks for watching 😊
I came to youtube for how to clean this exact model. I'm kind of doubting the method as I don't think that just boiling water will get rid of crusty oil spray residue. I'll give it a try anyway and thanks for the video.

Never had any film of any kind. the hot water/stem cleans it. Try to steam it without vinegar, it might of had chemical reaction, especially if you used a non stick cooking spray.
If you plan on submerging it, yes. Waffle batter is wet too, no need to unplug it before pouring the batter. You can definitely unplug if you wish. Over 15 years of using this method, same waffle iron and zero issues.

WOW THAT 👏 IS AWESOME, IT CAN'T BE SUBMERGED IN WATER OR DISASSEMBLED, SO I WENT TO 😀 GOOGLE TO FIND HOW TO CLEAN IT 👍🙋👍❗️Thank You so much for Sharing it with Me/Us, Muchismas Gracias, from a Man 👨 that enjoys COOKING 🍳, from 🙏 El Paso Texas, Alberto, HAPPY NEW YEAR 🙋🎉💪🙋‼️😋
Aflatoon Mohamed, Its a Waring, I've had it for years. It was less than $100.00 just can't remember the price. They sell them on Amazon. Thanks for watching😃
How do you keep the rest of the iron clean. Mine has lots of areas with sticky grease. I do my best to get it off, any suggestions would be appreciated.
Kathy Nunez, I always clean it when it's still hot. Haven't had any sticky areas on mine. I use those Scrub Daddy sponges to clean up stubborn things. They don't scratch, maybe those would work. Thanks for watching😃
Hey Kathy, I use my a bit of my left overs waffle batter and mix it with water to achieve a runny batter. Then I pour the batter into a heated iron without any oil sprayed. The batter will pick up all the grease and small spots you can't get from a sponge. I tend to scrub the iron first before adding the batter. I find using water and detergent does't clean the iron perfectly as I have a iron waffle that doesn't turn like the on in the video. Hope this helps : ))

i have a problem with my waffle maker, what happened is that when i use my waffle maker to make waffle's on that day, now after i made like three waffle's, all of a sudden it quit working. the light's were not on the steam is not bowing out and it is not heating up.
Waffle batter is wet so it won’t harm your waffle maker to get it wet. You’re not submerging the unit and the plug into water which is the cause of electric shock. You can always heat it up and unplug before adding the water if that makes you more comfortable. Thanks for watching 😃
This doesn't work at all for me. My Belgian waffle maker, though non-stick, requires spray oil or butter or it's glued to the maker. Boiling water inside it later doesn't get rid of the extra grease.
I’ve never used butter in mine, I use cooking spray. There shouldn’t be anything left in your waffle maker other than waffle crumbs or batter that might have overflowed. If there’s anything oily you might wanna use a different spray. This video is several years old and I’m still using the same waffle iron and same cleaning technique. Never had any issues.
@@ChristysCookingLifestyle I use the spray and it instantly burns/browns a tad the instant you put it on a preheated iron. Not knowing offhand what spray she's using, it's entirely possibly it doesn't have a high enough smoke point. Thanks for that suggestion.
Just curious, if you have removable plates, why watch a video showing how to clean your waffle maker? The majority of the waffle makers don’t have them, especially ones on the higher end like Waring.
OK. Been using a ChefMate for five days. FRUSTRATED because my waffles always stick and I have to flip them like a pancake in a skillet because the bottom does not cook. I know---it's the bottom that sticks--the uncooked or only slightly cooked side. So that is the problem. Only the top gets done. So now I am looking for professional ways to clean it and this method does not work. Been waiting over five minutes. It does not steam. I think I need a real waffle maker. I am using what my Mom had left here. She never had internet to get anything good quality. I will have to go online to buy what seems to be every you-tubers choice of a waffle iron.
I’ve had many waffle makers over the years, this is the Waring Professional Double Belgian Waffle Maker. I got it from Amazon, it works perfect every time. You will definitely notice a difference once you get a better one😃
Thank you, Christy. This Chefmate is going to the trash, not to the thrift store!. Evidently Mom wasn't happy with it and had another one here. It is still in the box. I will try that once or twice and if both sides do not cook at the same time, out that one goes, too.

You can heat it up, and unplug it if you like. The steam is created by adding the water while it’s hot. I keep it plugged up, the iron is designed to use wet batter so it won’t hurt it. This is the best one I’ve ever had. It’s a Waring😃

it isnt as simple as you can see in this video, the oil stick with my waring so it is so difficult to take it out

WOW THAT 👏 IS AWESOME, IT CAN'T BE SUBMERGED IN WATER OR DISASSEMBLED, SO I WENT TO 😀 GOOGLE TO FIND HOW TO CLEAN IT 👍🙋👍❗️Thank You so much for Sharing it with Me/Us, Muchismas Gracias, from a Man 👨 that enjoys COOKING 🍳, from 🙏 El Paso Texas, Alberto, HAPPY NEW YEAR 🙋🎉💪🙋‼️😋
Thanks, I’ve been using this method for years, never lets me down. Thanks for watching 😊
Wonderful and beautiful What is the brand name of the waffle machine and how much is it?
Aflatoon Mohamed, Its a Waring, I've had it for years. It was less than $100.00 just can't remember the price. They sell them on Amazon. Thanks for watching😃
Christy's Cooking Channel, thank you so much
How do you keep the rest of the iron clean.

It’s exactly 3/4 cup😃
never seen a double Belgian like That!! luckybutt!
BitchFit Gamer, They sell them at Amazon. It cooks perfectly. I've had mine for years. Thanks for watching😃
nice! what brand is the Waffle Maker? it looks really good.
It’s a Waring Pro, I’ve had it for years and it still works perfectly.
@@ChristysCookingLifestyle thankies for the info :D :D
i have a problem with my waffle maker, what happened is that when i use my waffle maker to make waffle's on that day, now after i made like three waffle's, all of a sudden it quit working. the light's were not on the steam is not bowing out and it is not heating up.
Dang, hope it's still under warranty. Mine is old, over 6 years. Haven't had that happen. Hate to hear about yours. Thanks for watching😃
Que es lo que le hecha?
okay but what if i got my batter stuck inside of the black thing? it went EVERYWHERE
I normally use a toothpick to get into the cracks that I can’t clean out.
what model waffle iron is this?
Waring Professional Double Waffle Maker is what’s printed on the label.
any chance of electrical shock ?
Waffle batter is wet so it won’t harm your waffle maker to get it wet. You’re not submerging the unit and the plug into water which is the cause of electric shock. You can always heat it up and unplug before adding the water if that makes you more comfortable. Thanks for watching 😃
The name of the brand and where it is purchased?
I bought it from Amazon years ago, Waring Professional Double Belgian Waffle Maker.
What is the brand name to look for in the Amazon
Waring is the brand name.
I love your accent
What accent?? LOL, thanks for watching 😊
@@ChristysCookingLifestyle Anytime luv
I put mine in the sink lol, did you put any cleaner in that water?
Yes, if I use any sweet or sticky ingredients, I’ll add some soap.
@@ChristysCookingLifestyle thank you
or buy a waffle maker with removable plates.
Just curious, if you have removable plates, why watch a video showing how to clean your waffle maker? The majority of the waffle makers don’t have them, especially ones on the higher end like Waring.
your awesome
Felix Mata, You're too sweet. Thanks for watching😃
your welcome
so no cleaner is needed at all just pure steaming?
Yes, if you have old build up you can use cleaner to get rid of it. If you steam clean it after each use. You won’t have to use any cleaner.
What about first time use? Can we use dish detergent?
Yes, the first wash gets rid of factory dust and anything else that’s on the plates. You can heat up the plates to help dry them off after washing.
Thank you, kind lady. Happy New Year to you!
Mr T you’re welcome, Happy New Year to you too😃

Thank you.
Does this work for waffle makers
