  • Romancing Saga 2: Revenge of the Seven has made the necessary changes to the original game and its remaster to not only excite fans of the original game, but also potentially bring in new fans or people intimidated by the original game. It added menus to clarify all the lack of information in the original game, including a detailed tutorial. It added ways to see what can glimmer new skills. It now shows you if enemies are weak to certain types of attacks as long as enemies have been hit by the attack or element type before. You can see the turn order. You can see when enemies are about to use their strongest attacks. You can see how much of a reward you've earned for fighting enemies after a battle.
    True to the game's added subtitle "Revenge of the Seven" it also seems like the game is going to emphasize the story of the Seven Heroes more than it did in the original game. This game has also added new classes never before seen in the other versions of the game, and larger 3D environments with vertical exploration gameplay. Romancing Saga 2: Revenge of the Seven also added United Attack mechanics through its Overdrive system inspired from games like SaGa Scarlet Grace and SaGa Emerald Beyond. The game added more armor slots along with more armor types including shields with their own defense mechanics. 4 dedicated evasion skill slots are also now available for your characters.
    Romancing SaGa 2 was a million unit+ seller in Japan in 1993 distinguishing itself among other JRPGs even during the JRPG golden age in the 90's, but it never quite got a chance to shine in the west with its remaster released west for the first time in 2017. This remake definitely stands a chance of giving the Romancing SaGa series as a whole a lot more attention in the west.

    You forgot one tiny little thing. You no longer need to off your party members to switch it for a new one. On the demo, you can freely switch around your characters with 4 other units in the castle freely and as many time as you like. Actually, a lot of people seem to have missed this, lol.

      It is easy to miss out on this in the demo, truthfully.

    • @smward87
      @smward87 Месяц назад +2

      @@bluespaceman7937 Yeah the game makes no mention of it whatsoever and it kind of urges you to just instantly fast travel to the next dungeon. So you need to actually go out of your way to figure it out. Which is fine. It's rewarding exploration which is often lost in games these days.

    I've been pretty put off by a lot of games lately, including rpgs, but this ones demo genuinely has me interested with its design, combat, skill progression. Gonna get it for sure.

    It's always funny to me how my first taste of SaGa was when it was wearing the mask of Final Fantasy Legend 2/3. A series with a lot of potential that turns some people off with its barriers to entry and extremely high difficulty. Hopefully this remake has alleviate some of that.

    A nice little addition I saw was that alternates of the same class aren't just palette swaps, but some of them have different hairstyles from each other.

    • @Augusleeberty
      @Augusleeberty Месяц назад

      I tested it and there is 3 different outfit and 3 different hairstyle for each characters for a total of 9 different combination. When the ninth one die, the cycle restart. But it was a really long prossess lol because you need a character to die almost 100 times to regain the first model version. At least that's it works in the demo. Tested it with 3 characters.

    Only few complain i have is loosing the ability to save anytime, also they combine skill point and magic point into one. Original game your ability and magic skill have two different bp and mp.

    Enemies get stronger in the remake, but apparently it depends on: a) how many events you have completed. b) how many battles you have won.

    I remember when I first played the first romance Saga. I blew out all my items facing one boss and then as soon as I was done and went on to the next area it threw 3 enemies of the same boss in one battle.

    I'm having quite a few of these titles on my backlog, but cause they are so exhausting to play (because of the difficulty and the BR system) I decided to wait for the right moment to play them.
    Well, the moment came with the demo of this game, cause after playing it, I'm nearly done with my first char of "Minstrel Song"... even on "Normal" speed, cause I love missing stuff for having greater replay value.
    Man... I just love the whole structure of these titles so much.
    The whole growth already got me in "Vagrant Story", and I'm a sucker for it.
    Plus the freedom you have and creating your own journey.
    And this freedom extends to your party, cause you can outfit them and teach them how you want, even if it deviates from their normal style.
    I can't wait for the release, and despite finding "RS 2" the most interesting in this series, I never gave it a fair shot.

    Animations are a little stilted, but this game is gorgeous, and I'm so happy we have a 3D SaGa game this big and this beautiful. I'm impressed. I know there's supposed to be one more game in the Scarlet Grace/Emerald Beyond style to round out the trilogy of sorts, but I hope SaGa games start to look like this moving forward.

    Yep, I played the demo, realised this is quite a different game than the jrpg in recent years. Preordered and hope it doesn't fail me as I am quite allergic toward preordering usually.
    I am much more weak sauce though, I am playing it at normal and it is a suitable difficulty for me HAHA.

    I always wanted to try the RS games and I feel this is a great point to start it, by the graphical look is it the same team that worked on the Mana remake? If is more reason to buy the game.

    I don’t like remakes more than the originals usually. I don’t like change because it often makes me uncomfortable. However, this game is one of the rare occasions where I find the remake to be the definitive experience of the game. With the added lore, the fact that magic isn’t a complete pain to level, and all the QoL changes it’s just so much better. I love the original version and will still play it from time to time, don’t get me wrong, but this remake just blew me away.

    the 2016 remaster did actually come with a manual on Steam, I have it downloaded as a pdf file. I loved the demo, I just wish the game didn't have denuvo, i'll only get it when they remove it. That thing is a fucking plague.

    Was extremely disappointed with the demo. They changed it for 14-year-old anime kids. Game holds your hands so much it literally put lightbulbs in the skills section so we can tell you what to use and when to use it…. I can’t make this shit up. 😂

    • @smward87
      @smward87 Месяц назад +2

      You can turn all of that off. Regardless, it doesn't mean you're guaranteed to learn the skill. It just means the chance to learn it is now available. That lightbulb could be there for dozens of battles before you finally learn the skill. So you're literally complaining about and acting like a tough guy over nothing.

      So turn all that stuff off then. You don't have to act like an elitist asshole. This series has always been niche. I wholly welcome a more accessible entry so that more people can get into the series I love.
