I feel bad for the Saga and Mana series, they can't seem to catch a break. There's so much magic in these games, and a little clunkiness, but they have so much going for them. Thanks for this.
the amount of work goes into this game was unimaginable, all scenery and unique places was handcrafted. romancing saga 2 was already a gargantuan game with more than hundreds of places to visit , but this remake further expand it together with the combat mechanics. i dare to say this is the JRPG of the year for me , even more so than metaphor re-fantazio.
@@Particle_Ghost I wouldn't say massive downgrade, Ys X is still pretty dang good. It's funny I was not really expecting this game until I tried the demo and I got hooked immediatelly. This might be the most fun I've had with a JRPG in a decade and the fact that's it's a remake blows my mind. Great review, it's cool to see content from outside the demo for once ( SE has been very careful with what they showed and showed so little as a result). I slightly wished they would have added a few more spells and one or two new weapon types but just having the original remade is already so amazing.
Romancing SaGa 2 got me into this series (I did NOT understand SaGa Frontier as a kid lol...fumbled my way through beating at least one of the stories tho!). The generation mechanic is one of my favorites in JRPGs and the final boss is the most insane and cool final boss maybe ever. Incredibly hyped for this release. I know a lot of games just came out but i promise this will scratch an itch you didn't know you had. RS2 began my SaGa craze and I can't get enough of this series.
Some of the bosses feel like they were throwing darts at a board to see what crazy bosses they can add lol. The final boss is still very difficult, lol
As someone who owns multiple SaGa games, this was good to hear. It's always a great thing to see an RPG series get modernized without sacrificing the series identity. Just like Visions of Mana.
Awesome review man. You have fully convinced me to get this game, especially with how your decisions end up effecting the game and stuff, which sounds amazing. Thanks for the review!
Would you believe that the JRPG that has 20+ recruitable characters, a town building mechanic, multiple choices that affect the story, and non linear story progression came out before Final Fantasy 6? Most of the mechanics here were there in 1993.

I tried the demo. For anyone who never play the original should try this. I might buy it maybe next few month, this month already bought too many game 😂
This is gonna be my first Saga game! I generally dont like modern looking RPG's... but this one looks to hit a sweet spot stylistically and I was always a turn based guy. Super excited for this!

already ordered, demo got me hooked and it seems it´s not even close to all the mechanics to play around with in the full release, really like the graphics and designs. now I just gotta finish the last month of refantazio before release. I need to split in three to have time to finish all the games I want to play..
Sad that this might just be overshadowed by Metaphor. Despite being based on an over 30 years old game, it feels in many ways more ambitious and daring than that game. And then there is of course the marketing that will completely drown out anything.
I think JRPG fans like a variety. I have no interest in playing Metaphor, even though I think it looks cool. This is more of my jam when it comes to JRPGs. I like that we have options lol - Azario
I've never played Romancing Saga games, is this like Agarest Generations War where sthe story goes generational? is there romance in the game to continue your lineage etc?
No it isn’t like Agarest and you kinda just die and choose a successor. There is a couple romantic scenarios, but your characters die so fast that those core stories are mostly found in the seven flashback scenes
There is Legend of Legacy which is another SaGa-lite! Recent SaGa remasters (and especially this remake) have done a lot of work to streamline their systems so if you want something like Alliance Alive, the Romancing Saga Minstrel Song remaster is excellent. It is way harder and more direction-less than TAA though but very rewarding. There is also The Last Remnant that has a more straightforward storytelling structure though the battle system is more about commanding squads instead of single party members. This RS2 remake seems like the perfect modern attempt at the series.
I dont really understand how the generations work. Is there a limit to how many generations you have to beat the game? Is there just a set number of heirs to choose between? I apologize. Ive never played the original.
No. If your full party dies in battle you also start a new generation. The idea is kinda rouge like where you share abilities and skills across generations
Is their an option for English? Or is it only Japanese with subtitles? Not that I mind subtitles if their done well, just having the option for English language would be nice
My feedback is there but I think only the devs will really see it. The game lacks some quality of life and performance and optimization are a thing. Feedback is great to improve games.
Thank you for yet another excellent review. I'm gonna buy a physical PS 5 version, and thankfully, unlike Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake, this hasn't been censored or changed to pander to the "modern audience". It was an easy choice to not buy the Dragon Quest game after learning of that. But this is something I can't wait to add to my collection.
They removed male and female from the game, they covered the female more, they took the crosses off the religious people and instead put a trident, just some of the things they changed, and the DQ creators even complained about it.
I love Metaphore. I also really enjoyed the demo for RS2. I’m not sure how Metaphore makes this game unplayable. They offer quite different experiences.
