You always come up with such great ideas! The idea of people being food insecure freaks me out too. I belong to a FB frugal meal group and every so often someone says they have hardly any (or no) food and it upsets me. There are absolutely no reasons for it in this or any other developed country. Have you ever seen one of those dumpster diving channels like Freakin Frugal? It’s shocking, the amount of perfectly good food that gets thrown out is a sin. I’ve heard it said that there is enough food to feed every person on the planet but the problem is getting it to them, what with wars, lack of infrastructure, corrupt governments etc. With everything going on in the world right now, 300 million people are now facing famine. That’s almost the same amount of people as the entire population of the US. Anyway, that’s my depressing rant. If someone is able, please consider donating to your local food pantry. Retired social worker here - if you’re able to donate to your local food pantries, please consider giving cash rather than food. They have corporate partners and contracts that can stretch the money further than anything we could do for them in a store. Anything helps, but thought I’d throw that out there.
I belong to another group and many are from other countries. Several have said "please tell me people don't really waste food when so many in my country struggle to eat." Broke my heart. We don't realize even when we don't think so we are lucky to live in America where there are programs to help.
You can also use the water from the veggies cans, to use in your biscuits etc. The water from those cans, in an emergency situation, is such a blessing!
Putting a tote of these together (as many as is a good fit for your budget) would be such a good gift for an older person on a fixed income who you don't know what to get for Christmas, newlyweds, or as a housewarming gift for a young person moving into a new apartment/house. You would just need to include copies of the recipes. Thanks for doing another round of these--they're great!
I never thought about putting what I have into meal kits. I am always trying to decide what to fix for supper. If I do this, it will not only organize my small storage space, but help me decide what to fix when I don't know what to fix lol. Thanks for that idea.
I have some wasted space at the bottom of my deep pantry! You just sparked an idea for a great project for me. I, too, love the idea of having them organized and ready to grab and go when I can't decide what to make, or when hubby wants to cook or one of the kids needs a hand-up. Blessings
I have the ingredients for each bag broke down in the description box. Along with the price I paid for each item, and the total cost, with recipes included for you to write down and stick in each bag.
My grandson makes 2 packs of chili ramen then adds a can of chili with beans to it. Then he adds some liquid velvetta to the top... great shelf stable meal.
The pesto chicken is even better if you add a can of cream of chicken soup with the pesto and the chicken over the noodles or mixed with noodles so delicious
I used to volunteer at a local food pantry where we would put together family boxes. It was always a struggle to fill them in a practical way that would provide meals instead of an assortment of random stuff. I think it would be such a good idea for me to assemble some of these meals and donate them for the family boxes. Thank you for the inspiration!!
My yard just flooded pretty good for the first time, neighbors said they'd never seen it that bad... definitely a situation where we could have been stuck at the least, for awhile. I was 2 days anyway.
IF there was an emergency, Natural Disaster OR man made it would be helpful if you had a few of those kits down in a 5 gallon bucket ready to grab and go QUICKLY. Also If you take a single bottle of water and mark with a sharpie on there where the water line is for say for the water needed for the biscuit mix. This allows you to grab and go and not have to have measuring cups. I bought a batch of P38 (military can opener) off Amazon and have one taped to the inside lid of my 5 gallon bucket. (I have had all my kids use one so they are comfortable with it) I have a lighter and a can of sterno down in my buckets as well. You just NEVER KNOW anymore in this crazy world when you might have to leave your home quickly and having a bucket or 2 ready to go is a little bit of extra security. Don't forget to throw some plastic silverware and napkins down in the bucket as well.

One of our favorite little deserts/breakfast...1 package Spice Cake Mix and 1 can of Pumpkin...nothing else...just mix together and we cook them in a mini muffin tin...you can also swap out the Spice Cake mix for others... My family’s favorite shelf stable meal is chicken and rice. Two cans cream of chicken, can of chicken and rice. All you need to add is water. As for sweet treats. I keep the small just add milk or water muffin mixes, the small cookie packs and shortening instead of butter, and a box cake mix, can of soda, and frosting. Voila pantry stable sweet treats.
i love this idea..my sister did hers this way...i use the knorrs ALOT..cheddar broccoli and bacon bits, mexi rice and canned tamales, chicken and Alfredo.. those little packs of bacon bits are very handy and still affordable for now..boxed stuffing as well..stuffing, chicken, cream of chicken, and can of mixed veggies 😋 just mix together and top with stuffing(prepared with the water)
