    I have simply replaced all of the lights in my room with GE grow lights 😊 I have 2 pendants and 2 wall lights, and my plants are all very happy, as long as I run the AC to keep my room below 90 lol. They are all over my walls, and a large plant shelf, and also my desk. And my dresser. And the floor. I live in a jungle, and it's glorious

    If you want some cheap but fairly heavy duty lights I recommend led shop lights. You can get one that's 5000 lumens for under $25 at harbor freight and they last forever. You can get them at higher lumens too and as long as they're led they don't give off too much heat. Not necessary for every setup but they're great for plants that need a lot of light, especailly if you're worried about the sun burning them. And they usually give off a full spectrum light (just check, the description will usually tell you) so no need to get the more expencive grow bulbs

    How do you decide which plants need lights as opposed to lower light or natural light

    • @dadstent
      @dadstent Год назад +3

      Research! If your plant needs more than several hours of light a day or needs to reach a certain DLI you're most likely gonna wanna get light.

    • @sugoiharris1348
      @sugoiharris1348 Год назад +1

      It depends on a lot of factors, but the plants themselves will usually show signs of needing more light. Variegated plants need more light to keep their variegation, for example. If the plant isn’t growing well, it might need more light. If the plant is getting leggy, meaning the stem is longer and it doesn’t have as many leaves at it should, it needs more light. I only have north facing windows because I live somewhere extra hot and I’ve curtained off my windows facing other directions to save energy, so my plants are all gathered around the north facing windows and still need extra lights because that’s not really enough.

    Hi Krystal! I would love to know if there's a trick to where plants should be placed in relation to grow lights. E.g. what is the equivalent of direct and indirect light with grow lights, how close under the light source should plants be, and so on. Please assume for this hypothetical (if you want to answer) that there's no available natural light lol. Thanks for sharing your knowledge, no worries if you don't get to this question!!

    • @aureasmortem
      @aureasmortem 5 месяцев назад +1

      All grow lights provide indirect light. Direct light is essentially the sun. Most LEDs run cool so there isn't a risk of burning leaves like would happed if you put an indirect light plant right under the outdoor sun. Even direct light plants can do well under grow lights if the lumens are high enough. Most grow bulbs will have instructions for how close to put them to a plant. I bought a lamp socket size grow bulb called the Sansi for 16 bucks off Amazon, which has kind of a narrow beam so I had to put it up higher to make room for all my plants to have light. I would recommend the larger size of the Sansi or just multiple of the 16 dollar version if you've got more than a couple plants.

    • @aureasmortem
      @aureasmortem 5 месяцев назад

      If they're small they should do well on a window ledge/countertop near a window. If you're looking for a grow light that can fit in a lamp socket I've got a Sansi growlight that was only $16 on Amazon. Once a week to once every two weeks for watering is fine for most succulents.
