The thing you said about Aamir not acting like the little boy reminded me of a Tom Hanks' interview in Graham Norton where he said that the young actor playing Forrest used to pronounce hard g at the end of a sentence. So the director was trying to teach him speak like Tom. But Tom said that he would rather speak like the boy and this is how Forrest's accent became so unique. He even had cassettes of the way he used to speak. Wish Aamir had taken this inspiration and interacted with the little boy to understand how he was supposed to act.

Agreed. This is exactly a thing from Tom Hanks, in acknowledging and Appreciating the child artist, whereby continuing the similar trend in the Adult character, as well. In Hindi both child and adult expressive nature are way different, hence disconnecting entirely. And the most shocking is Aamir Khan is known to identify such things and implement accordingly. In anyways, he either missed this point or deliberately didn't want to acknowledge it. Eventually, this very thing has become loud by the audiences. Having PK character placed, entirely in a different movie. Kinda Lame.
Moving on, I still will continue to have an immense respect towards, Aamir Khan's overall contributions, towards Indian Cinema.

I remember that interview of Tom Hanks at graham Norton's show....he had put so much effort those days to speak the dialect of the little boy that he imitated perfectly in the interview after so many years. As for Aamir Khan, can't believe he thought he could pull off a remake of a masterpiece like Forrest Gump ?!! What a grave mistake ....hope he learns from this and stays away from remaking classics and comes up with something original.BTW did jammy just say that Kareena's character was a step up from Jenny ?!! I disagree with that ...everything about Forrest Gump was perfection ! And no way a Bollywood knock off can come close from any aspect ...

How about not trying to do all of this in the first place. We know Aamir can do way better than this and is quite unexpected that he actually came up with this after months. A young artist would look up to a senior actor expecting to learn from his quality and creativity he or she adds into his or her movies, except you see the actor replicating the same story from 1994 legend which will ofcourse in general be good as there is slight changes to character and not so much of the story.

SRK's role in My Name is Khan was kind of similar to this Laal role of Aamir. SRK's expressions were normal and simple but Aamir is still playing the same role in Dhoom-3 and PK ! A talent like Aamir should have done justice to his tribute to Forrest Gump !

One of reasons forest Gump worked was cuz it was a satire on the American imperialists nd industrialists that led to the vietnam invasion. The Americans resonated with that feeling. One of the other reasons laal singh chadda messed up it by its portrayal of the Indian army. Having seen ssb interviews at a very minimal level, the Indian adaption is nothing but a mere joke on the Indian army itself.

But i really hoped that i would go wrong when the movie released like alia bhatt proved me wrong in gangubhai where i didn't like her in the trailer but loved her in the movie. Keeping aside the unnecessary boycott thing, the beauty of the original film is that Tom Hanks played the titular character in such a beautiful manner that it never felt over the top, whereas Amir was in Dhoom 3 mode and turned it up so much that it felt cringe and over the top.

One anecdote about Forest Gump is that Tom Hanks had worked and prepared his character w.r.t. how he looks, walks and talk. However, just before the shoot started, during the younger guys preparation, they noticed that the kid is not able to pick up the accent Mr Hanks had finalized and they found the kids original accent interesting. So Mr Hanks reworked on his accent and adopted the kids original accent.

Just as we feared, after seeing the trailer.
So surprised Aamir performed this way after we have already seen what SRK did in My Name Is Khan in such a controlled, restrained manner.
Aamir seems to have played this role out in a very 90's way.
I think you made a very good point about how important it is for a director to be able to make those calls, and for an actor to be self aware enough to realise how the pitch may just be too off.

What disappoints you more is that you get a caricaturish performance by an actor like Aamir Khan. It would have been a pass if it was an actor who hasn't delivered memorable performances.

Going by the trailer, this is no surprise. Aamir is over the top. I loved Dangal when I watched it in the theater. But with time, I've come to see the flaws. Instead of telling the story of two young girls in wrestling against a patriarchal background, Aamir has kind of forcefully tried to make it about his character, the girls' father. The scenes where he's locked up, running, crying. All unnecessary. Lending nothing to what was actually going on. Just a star trying to forcefully get into more scenes.
Amir needs to tone it down. It's very off putting to see 'acting' as compared to actors who don't look like they're acting but just being.

The issue with indian film industry is that the A list actors are just catering to their star power in the movie & not letting themselves into the character. If u see hollywood, the biggest of big actors just give up their stardom for character they are playing, so you see a character rather than an A list actor.
Amir's acting is mediocre and the reason why he is a star is that he has done some really good films which returned profit. So bollywood fraternity placed him as top actor coz he promises a profit in the business. Though it is not the case in the recent time as Amir's film flops big time. He became egotistical to a point where the movirs he is doing getting the impact of it. There is said it.

Give them a character showcasing many emotions they fail or give average performance. I'd say that only Amir is one of them who wanted to do some meaningful (and by that I mean he also worked for it, transformed himself and did good acting, whether it's lagaan, dangal, taare zameen par) in Bollywood but he is failing lately. Wish kareena would do more movies, she is such a joy to watch on screen 💜 didnt understand the unnecessary comparison to jug jug n shershah though 😏 aamir just need to gracefully admit he went gravely wrong with his passion projects twice in a row and move on. Also goes to show the power and money these male superstars command, to audition kareena for this role but didnt care to check if he himself is capable of doing it! Also has a personal gripe towards this man for having had 2 marriages and leaving the kids fatherless, not cool 😡

    @soumyaranjanpattnaik2354 2 года назад +115

Aamir is a brilliant actor. But he's far too powerful for lesser directors. He overrules them. He works best when his own spin on the character is kept in check.
Take Ghajini for instance, Surya was phenomenal because he wasn't portraying a person who was angry, he was lost. Aamir on the other hand was just angry, I never felt he was lost in his own mind. The same was in Dhoom 3, way over the top and history has repeated itself with Lal Singh Chaddha. Innocence doesn't mean idiocy. Tom Hanks carried the innocence Aamir looks like a cartoon. Our actors need to take a backseat and allow the creators of these stories to portray their vision rather than hijacking the story tellers vision to feed their own grandioseness.

    • @lyricsassam
      @lyricsassam 2 года назад +4

Absolutely right, though I haven't watched LSC, I completely agree with your comment. People like Aamir feel like they know too much to not take over the character, and that messses up the film itself. The actor should be a vessel for the character, but here its the other way around. I would like to highlight Randeep Hooda's performance in Sarbjit as an example of what I said.

Being inspired by the movie, they wanted to make a movie of similar theme, i.e a feel good life journey of an innocent man. They were equally impressed by the novel Forrest Gump, thus chose to use it for the movie after making changes to the certain areas of basic plot. Aamir Khan needs to stop playing younger character or hire a younger actor to play him in his 20's like the west does, for example moonlight each phases of the character is played by different actors. I think his efforts are genuine but it's not going in the right direction to where it needs to go, he needs some introspection with projects otherwise it will go against him in a long run.

You should stop criticizing Hindi movies for bad Punjabi, simply because it's a Hindi movie not a Punjabi film. Also, what is the point of examining such things with a magnifying glass, it's just a movie made for entertainment; your education and other real life commitments need this kind of attention. Also, Anil Kapoor, Neetu Kapoor, Varun Dhawan and Siddharth Malhotra are actual Punjabi's, so their Punjabi would obviously be better than Aamir Khan, who is not a Punjabi. You have clearly not learnt anything from the Sushant Rajput controversy; you are still playing to the gallery.

I was excited for this film feeling that maybe Aamir Khan will have his own performance stand out by staying true to the role. Forrest Gump has a very emotional and inspiring story. If the remake is given justice, it can easily strike a chord in anyone's heart, be it an Indian or not.
This year I have rooted for so many Hindi films to be hit and to make an emotional connection with the audience. I was miserable when Shamshera flopped.
I hope LSC becomes a BO hit tho

I’ve been a big fan of Aamir. He’s the son of great Tahir Husain saab. As his son, I’ve always felt that Aamir should’ve been a mass hero like Salman, but the people around him have turned him into a social activist. I saw the disaster LSC coming the moment I saw Kiran and Atul were involved in the creative process. They have their own political agenda.
The thing about Forrest was that he used to think literally. There was a scene where Bubba gets shot and he asks why it happened. Thinking literally, Forrest replied, “Because you got shot!”. Forrest never tried to entertain the audience. He was stupid to other people, but his struggles were real. He tried to convey his lack of understanding through thinking literally, poor choices of word etc, . But here Aamir tried to manifest his simplicity through weird facial expressions. In South Asia, directors often think that’s how you show simplicity on screen. Kabir khan made the same mistake in Tubelight, even though Bajrangi character’s simplicity was more realistic.
Advait is a mediocre director. I saw that in Secret Superstar. In every interview, Aamir keeps telling that he’s very careful about who is the director. But recently that hasn’t been the case. Because after terrible Secret Superstar and Dhoom 3, Aamir shouldn’t have worked with the directors again. But here we are
There were many red flags in the trailer itself. First replacing the American football with sprint / race was a big mistake. They could’ve at least used rugby since the director took many creative liberties. I remember how funny Akshay was in Namaste London with that rugby scene. The humor in that scene took the movie to a different level. Second, replacing shrimp with underwear. I mean what they were thinking!! Naga’s character looked more like Chatur from 3 idiot. It would’ve been okay 15 yrs back. But now people are more exposed to South Indian movies, so the stereotype not gonna fly imo.
Choosing Kargil War, World Cup, 1984, 26/11 is the easiest way to make a movie biased and prone to propaganda. And the writers couldn’t just resist the bait. There were many other historical moments in India which could’ve been more suitable and aligned with the humor and message of the movie
The biggest casualty of LSC is the Jenny character. They just couldn’t understand her

Ppl around him havent turned him into a social activist. It is a conscious choice Aamir made and that worked for him! Similar to Akshay kumar..There's two genres that worked best in indian cinema..Romance and action..Romance was takn over by SRK n Action was taken over by Salman..The third would be comedy bt Aamir is not good at that..That just leaves out films with social messages..Aamir realised that if he doesnt stick to that genre he may disappear into oblivion...

    Flowed with it ..
Not one of best of Aamir but definitely delightful lucid movie
Loves it's cinematography, music and the amazing way a Hollywood classical masterpiece is Indianized. It never feels like in a others shoe..Loved how subtly different phases of Indian landscape and socio- political history is woven. And how beautifully and unpreachingly the message of " curing the malaria" is voiced. Rupa, Mhd Paaji and Lal's mother was so wholesome. Maybe when the context outside the movie will be forgotten , people will love it like Knockout, Salesman of the year, Wake Up Sid was liked or like lesser known beautiful movies such as Mee Rasqam, Lunana - a yak in the classroom, Skater Girl, Purna etc eventually are appreciated.

If you haven’t watched Forest gump which I am sure 80% of people in India haven’t , they would actually love this movie. I have watched both , and for the Indian twist this was FAMILY FRIENDLY, Whereas Forest gump is an Adult Film. The only part I didn’t like was the chaddi banyan sequence. I was satisfied he died 😂. Aamirs approach was good. But the wide eyes was not required. The young Laal was so natural. Aamirs felt like it was forced.

I think Kabir Singh did the best in terms of using Punjabi in a Hindi movie. It was real and the masses understood it as well. It is more to do with how comfortable the actor is with language and if he isn't comfortable then the language is sure to be butchered. Irrfan Khan was so comfortable in speaking the language of Paan Sing Tomar which added to his flawless performance.
