The only thing that is slightly irksome for me is the army bit. Not because it's necessarily defamatory, but because it's missing the context. In Forest Gump, there was a horrific experiment where they choose a hundred thousand people with lower IQ, autism etc to send to Vietnam. And the purpose of that entire sequence sheds light on that shameful aspect of the military there. Nothing like that happened in India. I just wish they had used more context around the events. But then again, the film would be boycotted even more vehemently if they were to put up a mirror to our reactionary and defensive society. :/

Why does everything needs to have a context? Why everything that had a context in Forest gump should be exactly same by having a context. A film has so many things which are fantasies, exaggerations. I saw the scene just as that. If you'll find reality in every scene in every movies, then you wouldn't get films at all.

In absolute real terms, this was an 'Honest review'. In all the bullshit, clickbait reviews which are being shoved on RUclips, this was a breath of fresh air. Great review guys as always. Other reviewers should watch and learn, how not to be disrespecting towards art. Me and my GF didn't get OYO room today, both of us were very worried. Then we checked BookmyShow to find empty theaters and finally found LSC's show, the entire theater was empty. We booked a corner seat. Thank you so much Aamir and Kareena. We spend great time together.😁
One of the reasons forest Gump worked was cuz it was a satire on American imperialists and industrialists that led to the Vietnam invasion. The American resonated with that feeling. One of the other reason lal singh chadda messed up is by its portrayal of the Indian Army. Having seen the SSB interview at the very minimal level, the Indian adoption of the Army sequence is nothing but a mere joke on the Indian army itself 😞

One thing I find flawed in this movie The only reason, Forrest Gump was taken into Army was due to Vietnam War but such a problem never occurred in India, so, the writer could have found another reason for it.

There Tom rescued his own army lieutenant general in Vietnam war which was happened far from USA's soil. So imagine the original film with this narrative that Tom helped a Russian or Chinese soldier and then went back to USA and opened a business and earning in Millions without any US military's inside knowledge?

In original film Forrest Gump got into army because story took place during Vietnam War, when US conducted controversial experiment called 'McNamara's Folly' or 'Project 100,000' where US army recruited below military Mental or Physical standards into US Army. Those people were called McNamara's morons as they were considered low iq. But such thing never happened in India's history, so how did Amir's Character got into Special Forces? It's not easy for person with Special Needs to get into ANY branch of Indian Armed forces. Circumstances that led Forrest to get into US Army never occurred in Lals life then how did he managed to get into Indian Army?

I think it's natural to draw parallels between MNIK and LSC. Amir being a "perfectionist" filmmaker should've known that audiences have already seen MNIK whose core theme was inspired by Forrest gump itself. One thing that worked in favour of MNIK was that it didn't try to be exactly like Forrest gump but the soul of the original could be felt throughout. Karan Johar cleverly incorporated FG's theme in a modern setting which is where LSC fails miserably. It basically copy-paste so many plot points from the original that feel clearly outdated in 2022. Moreover, the emotional connect is just not there. Personally, I like SRK's Rizwan better than goofy LSC's portrayal any day.

I saw the movie yesterday and I agree with your review that the movie is not that bad to be tormented from all sides and not that good to worthy of so much applause. It was an okish movie at best. And I literally agreed that the last 20-25 minutes were drag .
I watched it yesterday. Although movie was good but a bit lengthy. I watched Forrest Gump two year ago, Forrest Gump was a bit lite but this one was more of emotional. I think 7.5/10 would be fine enough.

The only thing that is slightly irksome for me is the army bit. Not because it's necessarily defamatory, but because it's missing the context. In Forest Gump, there was a horrific experiment where they choose a hundred thousand people with lower IQ, autism etc to send to Vietnam. And the purpose of that entire sequence sheds light on that shameful aspect of the military there. Nothing like that happened in India. I just wish they had used more context around the events.
But then again, the film would be boycotted even more vehemently if they were to put up a mirror to our reactionary and defensive society. :/

Why does everything needs to have a context? Why everything that had a context in Forest gump should be exactly same by having a context. A film has so many things which are fantasies, exaggerations. I saw the scene just as that. If you'll find reality in every scene in every movies, then you wouldn't get films at all.

One of the reasons forest Gump worked was cuz it was a satire on American imperialists and industrialists that led to the Vietnam invasion. The American resonated with that feeling. One of the other reason lal singh chadda messed up is by its portrayal of the Indian Army. Having seen the SSB interview at the very minimal level, the Indian adoption of the Army sequence is nothing but a mere joke on the Indian army itself 😞

but this movie IS illogical. In original film Forrest Gump got into army because story took place during Vietnam War, when US conducted controversial experiment called 'McNamara's Folly' or 'Project 100,000' where US army recruited below military Mental or Physical standards into US Army. Those people were called McNamara's morons as they were considered low iq. But such thing never happened in India's history, so how did Amir's Character got into Special Forces? It's not easy for person with Special Needs to get into ANY branch of Indian Armed forces. Circumstances that led Forrest to get into US Army never occurred in Lals life then how did he managed to get into Indian Army?

But the thing is, it wasn't necessary to pick a Punjabi character as language did not have a major impact in the movie. He could have picked a character which is easier for him to potray...after all the characteristics of Laal Singh Chadda can be found in people of any language...so it is easier to pick a character which you can play easier. It's not like Aamir Khan could not have any influence in the story. *Just an opinion.*

I think it's natural to draw parallels between MNIK and LSC.
Amir being a "perfectionist" filmmaker should've known that audiences have already seen MNIK whose core theme was inspired by Forrest gump itself. One thing that worked in favour of MNIK was that it didn't try to be exactly like Forrest gump but the soul of the original could be felt throughout. Karan Johar cleverly incorporated FG's theme in a modern setting which is where LSC fails miserably. It basically copy-paste so many plot points from the original that feel clearly outdated in 2022. Moreover, the emotional connect is just not there.
Personally, I like SRK's Rizwan better than goofy LSC's portrayal any day.
SRK did play the Rizwan character much better even though both the characters has similar characteristics.
aamir khan should distribute the tickets for free with 1000 rs compensation for medical treatment only then people will watch this movie

I saw the movie yesterday and I agree with your review that the movie is not that bad to be tormented from all sides and not that good to worthy of so much applause. It was an okish movie at best. And I literally agreed that the last 20-25 minutes were drag .

I watched it yesterday. Although movie was good but a bit lengthy. I watched Forrest Gump two year ago, Forrest Gump was a bit lite but this one was more of emotional. I think 7.5/10 would be fine enough.

This is a brilliant movie! As good as it was expected to be! Amir khan is phenomenal and ppl who are afraid of expressing their own opinions wil just repeat what the boycott gang is saying. The truth is that this movie deserved all the love and appreciation that Dangal or Lagaan might have received. Please open ur eyes guys! Don’t say what the herd is saying!
