As to your comments about the RC4WD R7 transmission that were spot on about their listing choices. I purchased one and installed it into my RC4WD Trailfinder 2 LWB. It is very well made except the gearing is exposed so it flings grease so I will be fabricating a cover for it in the future. I have only had it in for 3 days so we will see how it maintains. So you can install it in place of the of the R3 transmission and then link it to the transfer case as shown in their pics on the site. Or you can install in place where the transfer case goes and then install your driveshafts directly to it which I chose to do. In doing so I removed a lot of weight from the rig up top. I was able to remove the battery tray, R3 trans, transfer case and the mount. I didn’t custom-made a one piece tray behind and next to the steering servo before the transmission and motor to hold my battery, my receiver, and my furitek python X esc
😆 Orlandoo's are fantastic. I get that most people don't have the patience to work on them but they're extremely well designed and performance is outstanding for such a small truck. They're a riot to crawl around on your coffee table. Having said that, The Furitek RTR version is ridiculously expensive for sure.
Lunsford was one of the leading aftermarket Titanium manufacturers in the offroad game. They were one of a handful making parts for a variety of big companies. Kelly the owner chose to close the doors when he retired rather than sell it (though I think some effort was made) but in the end, Lunsford ended its legacy run. The same was true with Novak. A longstanding electronics leader in RC, they too chose to close.
I started the hobby with a Duratrax Evader rtr, the og version. Fitted with a Novak rooster and a speed gem motor. No idea what is around from those companies except Ive seen Duratrax and their tires. 84 new rc announcements this year!
Associated I think has been on of those brands that has seemed to lose focus and relevance since it was sold in '05 to Thunder Tiger. I can remember as a kid, Associated was the brand, the only American brand to stand up to the Japanese companies like Yokomo and Kyosho until Losi came around, then it was the big battle between them. Now that the bashing side of the hobby has pretty much separated from racing and racing isn't so much the focus anymore, Associated seems kinda lost and that got amplified when TT bought them. Their race vehicles seem to still be on par with other racers but they just can't seem to understand how to transition into the basher market that brands like Traxxas and Arrma have built. Then you have Element that started off as an Associated but now is it's own thing but you still have some rebranded TT 1/12 trail trucks sold as Associated.. They can still make good stuff, they just seem to have bad problems with branding and developing new ideas. Like they're always a step behind and a bit confused.
One thing I liked about the old SCX24 electronics, was the power level switch. Having a low/med/hi switch was great for kids, and also doing challenges with buddies. On an easy course we would limit ourselves to. Low or med to add a layer of challenge.

Back in the 80s, if you were into pan car racing, Bolink was the #1 name in the game. They have been under the RJSpeed name for a long time now. I don’t have any clue how popular pan car racing is anymore.
Bolink pan cars were ok and great for getting started. I had one as my first pan car then after about 6 month racing it I got a Team Associated RC10L. It had more tuning options then the Bolink
Those old RJSpeed cars are completely outdated these days. No way you'd ever be competitive with one any more. The Awesomatix A12 and the XRay X12 are the gold standard these days. Then there are a host of chassis made specifically for oval track pan car racing.
The Bolink/RJSpeed cars were outdated when they were released. They aren't supposed to race with the latest and greatest, they are spec class cars where everyone runs the same car and a basic motor. In the UK we have a popular class using Mardave cars that are similar which still use the same basic design they started with in the 90s runnjng a 540 motor and 4cell NiMH batteries. I did some research on the R7 transmission. It looks like a completely different setup from the R3. Other than the obvious difference of a billet case, there is no "external" spur. It's inside the transmission case on the same shaft as gear one. This allows the transmission to be narrower and position the motor lower than the R3. This also means the spur, which is Delrin in the R3, is now steel like the rest of the gears, so it should be stronger/more durable. The gearing is different between the two and the R7 includes a big 24T pinion. I suspect the R7 is a slightly faster transmission, but it's hard to say without more information. This seems like a great improvement to me. It's very puzzling how RC4WD puts this much effort into R&D, only to not follow-through with proper marketing.

Anything horizon has touched in the last 20 years has gone downhill. Kinda feels like these days we have two options, horizon or traxxas. There are others but those two brands seem to do their best to squash them away.
My guess is 127 RTRs. I miss Novak. I think Team Associated took a bit of a hit when they were bought by Thunder Tiger. They gradually lost their pure racing pedigree and became a recreational brand. I'm not saying it hurt them in the market, but it definitely changed their path in RC.
Kyosho has traded hands at least three times in the past ten years. Always sold to a different private equity firm while maintaining the name. They have been on a steady decline until last year when things started to turn around.
No red interior for the classic TRX4 trucks? I guess that's why the clear is there... Love me a classic blue interior though. My own 84 F150 has blue interior and I wouldn't want it any other way.

Venom when they used to do a crawler, and batteries. Now I think they are gone completely. I remember when Arrma came out in 2009 and it was basically cop cats of the rustler, bandit, slash, and also resembled HPI in a way but they have come along way since it was bought out by horizon.
I don't think I could pay that for the RTR Orlandoos from Furitek but I have to disagree about how hard they are to work on. Except for the lights they aren't difficult to work on at all IMO. BTW what happened to your ear? You appear to be bleeding.
Josh, you might hate the 1/32 scale rigs, but what if they start having as many comps as the 1/24 scale rigs? You’ve changed your mind before 😆. My 2024 RTR guess is 121 new releases.
I can't understand why a company would launch a new product and provide essentially zero information on it. I have to imagine most people like knowing a bit about a product before buying it.
As a prediction, do you think 1/24 will go as some sort of SORRCA type C1, C2, & C3? Or how about 1/24 micro robots? lol as in 1/24 sporty? Just a thought. My 👍🏼made it the 1K.
Going back here but Bolink, Duratrax (when they made cars), Novak, and Trinity which is owned by Horizon now like Duratrax. Pretty sure Bolink and Novak are just memories.
Bolink disappeared after Bob Rule died, his son was useless and ran the business into the ground. Some time later he sold the cars and some bodies to RJ Speed. Some time later Sabulatech bought the rest of the body moulds and are still producing bodies from them. Novak kept going until 2016, when they were being left behind in the ESC market trying to compete with modern computer programmable ESCs. They needed a massive investment in the business to try and compete, both on technology and price. If you look for the hobbywing factory tour videos you will see what they were struggling to compete with.
Yikong calling it a "tank turn" is misleading because their wheels cannot move in opposite directions like a tank could. It's more like a skid-steer or side-to-side dig function. I don't see their feature as helping reduce turning radius any more than a regular dig unit. It certainly can't do a zero-radius turn.
It is called that because it is a (trademarked?) feature of the Chinese GWM Tank 300 SUV. Josh really should have mentioned that brand when he was listing real-world vehicles that have a cutting brake, especially as he has shown the RC version by Traction Hobby in the past.
HPI was better under original ownership. Not much development under new ownership. I believe it is under third owners now out of UK importer. Current quality is good. Maybe I have not given them much time but not a lot of stores carrying them.
HPI is one of the companies to die and come back multiple times, but never fully. Hitec was the best servo's we could buy back in the old days of RC, now they're mostly just air stuff, no ground RC. Not even sure what happened to Novak, they use to be a big name too. There's a lot of them that didn't make it
If the VRD has 37% OD with the trans gears 21%/portal gears 16%, then how does the Carbon have 24% with the trans gears 6%/portal gears 16%? That would be 22%, not 24%.
You can also yell 📢"YIKONG" while sending your vehicle off some sweet jumps.

I don't think I could pay that for the RTR Orlandoos from Furitek but I have to disagree about how hard they are to work on. Except for the lights they aren't difficult to work on at all IMO. BTW what happened to your ear? You appear to be bleeding.
That gold digger belongs in a 90’s hip hop video. I like it
Josh, you might hate the 1/32 scale rigs, but what if they start having as many comps as the 1/24 scale rigs? You’ve changed your mind before 😆.
My 2024 RTR guess is 121 new releases.
Boling that has become RJ Speed they didn't really change and that's how I like it: I have some Bolink/ RJ Speed cars and they're great fun!
2024 is going to have 79 RTR Assn Electric under thunder tire
You should keep track of how many models get discontinued
Think that traxxas interior would fit in the sport?
I can't understand why a company would launch a new product and provide essentially zero information on it. I have to imagine most people like knowing a bit about a product before buying it.
Because it’s RC4WD.
I suggested hd starts a new segment called "wtf is this" then does a proper analysis of the product.
Isn't that how Tesla works? They even take your deposit years before you get to see anything.
My guess 86 rtr's and a bunch of "re-pops" of old platforms.
I miss Hpiracing.
Why did you abandon the Phoenix?
Asian Cowboy, that was good. Like button energized.
I'm glad you posted SNU as I was about to end up descending down some degenerate black hole here on RUclips. 😂😂
@@cdsoloachim6069Ahh, that makes more sense now. Thanks!
it is dis brake like the full scale vehicles, I think it is cool!
Gunna be a tough year 85 rtrs tops
Sticking with my guess.... 122 RTRs 😀
Well one of my predictions for 2024 was right thanks rarrlo
But 113 rtrs
That Team Associated announcement dor the big buggy was a huge disappointment va the Hoonicorn Mustang indeed😂😂😂
Yikong? That's near shoopang, isn't it??...🤠
Hey hey scale news update time
Early hour crew in da house!
That dx6c is disappointing. Its only 20 model memory like the 5c. I was hoping they'd do at least 30 on it.
There's a lot of them that didn't make it
Imagine being able to, (cost aside) find every model of rc, every rc type, hobby grade and car or truck made.. anyway, I say 114 RTRs this year.
RC4WD doing RC4WD things lol 😂
Your ear 😳…oh thumbs up as well 😁🤙🏼
If the VRD has 37% OD with the trans gears 21%/portal gears 16%, then how does the Carbon have 24% with the trans gears 6%/portal gears 16%? That would be 22%, not 24%.
Because you're losing accuracy by rounding. If you do the full math, you'll see the answer lines up.
A little less this year, 82 RTRs
Oh that tennis green.
Team-Durango comes to mind.
I miss Novak electronics 😢
Let’s go!!
Those driveline angles on the pics for rc4wd 🤦🏻♂️
Josh another rtr from Vanquish?
