well leave it up to a bunch of high schoolers where the refurbishing project was probably run by a teacher who also had know idea how to fix one of these things.... he was probably a painter....
Since this is from the Siren Graveyard, the tech school must have put the original motor in it without inspecting it. Could also be the collector rings.
1.The chopper has no bearings so it has grinding noises 2.the blower had a late startup or the chopper motor went weak after the wind up 3.Warbling pitch on 1:16 4.blower issues The conclusion is that the siren just has a new paint job, thats all it has new
I've wondered if Chester Co. was ever going to use our old sirens. I remember when these were being put up around town, here in Rock Hill. That was around 1983, two years before the Catawba Nuclear Project was commissioned. For tests, the sirens ran in alert mode, for three mins. For warnings, they were sounded in attack. The last time I heard a Thunderbolt in attack, was during a tornado warning in 1994. It was the same day an EF3 struck Lexington, SC. I remember when they were replaced, and what a difference it was. There is an older 2001 (the one with the narrower cone-shaped motor cover?) not far from my house. It's lower pitched than the newer ones, and I can clearly hear it from inside the house. Still, nothing like the old T-bolt system .
If you listen closely, you can hear a faint chugging sound, which sounds like either an A1 or early A2 blower, hinting that this siren was installed sometime in the 50's or early 60's
Ray Pavon If you mean this Thunderbolt was replaced before it was refurbished, yes. It was replaced with a 2001-SRN (as said in this video's description).
This siren sounds horrible. Says it is refurbished but Thunderbolt Sirens from 50 years ago that haven't had a even a paint job sounds better than this.
Sorry late reply: This siren has a few problems: 1. Bad brushes 2. Warbling pitch 3. Delayed rotator start up and blower shut off 4. Steadily dropping pitch
Josh Mckinnley the rotator and blower are on a delay timer the agistat which delays the rotator and blower from shutting down when the chopper does, it lets the chopper coast for up to 30 seconds. instead it has a delayed start and a delayed shut down.
These are a common site in Cincinnati, Ohio where I live along with the Federal SD-10, but a great number of them have been decommissioned and replaced by the ACA T-128 and the Federal 2001. Ironically the old sirens have notbeen taken down. They're just becoming eyesores like an abandoned old car left to rot away in a rural field.
@@Ikesandknifes Not necessarily, the 1000s were offered from 1952 all the way to discontinuation in 1990. This siren was made in the early 80s. Thus this could sound different from older ones simply because it's newer and has been refurbished.
@@Ikesandknifes yeah but since this is refurbished it probably is using a 4m blower. since most 1000s were ordered at earlier dates they came with 5m or 6m blowers which make the sound of the thunderbolt different. its also probably cause the motor is a bit sick on this thunderbolt.

Brendan Williamson they just painted it! They didn’t re make it.
"Refurbished." Yeah, right. If it were refurbished, it wouldn't sound like that!
I know right , what kind of start up is that , it sounds like the chopper motor is wavering
Refurbished means a new paint job
It's a refurbished single tone

it pitch waivers just like the 2001 130 sirens do

Hmm... Oh deer. That motor must be fixed as soon as possible!
Yeah. Which is weird because it was refurbished not too long ago.
and the activation was at 0:51
Call me crazy but I actually really like the way this Thunderbolt sounds.
Egad, that thing needs TLC. Makes the Silverstreet 1003 sound great in comparison. I like the unusual startup, though. Great video!

Uh, no. The description clearly says it was originally installed in the 80's, so that makes it a C-Series.
Pitch issues.
MAJOR pitch issues.
Ikr
Sounds like a mix of a federal signal 2001 and a thunderbolt
Screwed up Agastat? That's what I'm guessing because the siren starts sounding before it starts rotating.
it has no controller so it was manually set off so nothing wrong with the agastat
Oh. Ok
Siren starts at 0:51.
Refurbished thunderbolt 1000? It don't look like one and it sounds like a dying cow.
I can hear an EAS going off in the backround.
It is the siren head sound
@chara9201 that's not siren head, that's the Eas sound
Lesson of the day, never let a technical school fix a siren.
Note:Its possible hear the ativaction tone in the start on the background what means that a real tornado its coming.
Those are SAME tones for the drill. it shows up as a Practice/Demo.
It sounds like Refurbished Thunderbolt 1000
Siren start in 0:51
If I'm not wrong aren't single tone Thunderbolt's a model 2 chopper in a different housing?
all thunderbolts are basically model 2s.... with an air pipe rammed up its ass
! ObamaTookMyCat ! Lol that a beautiful representation XD
That is mounted like 15 ft!

I think these sirens sound better when the tone is "Hi-Lo", instead of just, "one" tone.
