Ok I'm indian so I feel like I should rate this:
+3 for the onion, garlic, lots of fresh ginger
    +1 for the white rice
-1 for the dutch oven (instead of a heavy karahi)
    +2 for frying spices
-2 for using curry powder (instead of curry patta leaves)
    +1 for garam masala use
    +1 for browning chicken
    +2 for coconut milk
-1 for large cashew pieces (probably should be cut)
    +2 for the lime juice
+3 for prefering butter chicken leftovers
-1 for the coconut flakes (looking like Italian food lol)
    Bonus:
+1 for trying to pronounce the real words used
    +1 for the description
These are absolutely arbitrary LOL but overall great job John!

It is such a complex mix of flavours and spices which just melts in your mouth. John, This recipe was super good, but there's something you can do to completely elevate this! You missed a few crucial steps
First saute the onions and ginger garlic in butter, then add spices and tomatoes, cook it down till the oil separates. (this gives it a very nice flavor)
Then you just add the cooked chicken and if you want you can also add cashew cream, Yogurt or cream ( traditionally we add this in butter chicken)
That's it! If you do it like this the flavors will just elevate. 😀

John wow, your take of an Indian iconic dish was refreshing. It is a very personal take and bravo for that. May I ask you to reconsider the title. My suggestion, Creamy Coconut Chicken Curry. I will try it after I watch the video several times.
Will tweak it to make it more personal. Why not cook garlic ginger in butter first, on Very Low Heat. Then add ground spices to toast making sure they don’t burn add a Tsp of water increments .
Slice onions very thin, so they will thicken add body and sweeten the sauce. Slicing them thin will ensure they disintegrate . I realize you aim is to simplify the process and you did a good job
And you get A for originality and A+ for effort

I finally found the Indian dish to die for and as an Indian I am not disappointed. I prefer your recipe as a base. I wonder if you have a chilli paneer recipe. I've been trying to nail it but I'm still working on my recipe. I love the ideas for dinner. I've become really bored with what I've been eating and trying to prep my food better and take care of my health at the same time. This makes things so much easier to manage my meal plans.
I would definitely recommend that you try this dish with Naan bread, garlic and herb Naan is great too. Paratha is also my favourite. You can get plain original Paratha but I would recommend the onion one. You just can't go wrong with it. You can also make some Rita which is some plain bio Yogurt with fine chopped Cucumber and a little cumin. You don't have to put in the cumin especially if someone has an allergy. You dip your Naan or Paratha in the Rita and take some of the rice and butter chicken and eat it together.

@@theBakinNoob it's the easiest thing... First half fry your chicken in a pan with oil, salt and chilli powder. After it is half done, take it out of the pan, pour some oil in the same pan and add roughly chopped onions, tomatoes, some cashews, garlic and one inch ginger. After they become soft and starts realising water, turn the heat off and let it cool. Transfer them into a blender and puree them into a fine paste. In the previously used pan, add a tub of butter, the puree and the chicken. For masala, use 1 tbsp of garam masala and one tbsp of kasuri methi (these you will get in the spice section of almost any store wherever you are). Add salt to taste, 1 1/2 tbsp of sugar and about 50 ml of cream. Cover and let it simmer at low flame for 10 mins and you're done (you can add water if gravy becomes too thick).

Well I know what I'm planning for this weeks chicken dish! Always a bonus if it's easily made vegetarian! I'd brown and throw in my meat substitute toward the end cause they absorb flavor so quickly.

I love buttered chicken, but I’ve always ordered it from the restaurant. I did not know how easy it was to make it home. It is for dinner tonight. Thank you for sharing.
PS no cashews will be harmed in this video lol

We don't usually add coconut milk or cashew to Butter Chicken (usually you add a splash of Fresh Cream at the end for that softness), but I am curious and will definitely try it. I mean it's John's recipe, can't really go wrong.

Hi John! This is an interesting twist to the original butter chicken recipe, although I personally don't like to use coconut in north Indian dishes. You could also soak and blend cashew nuts to form a paste - adds a creamy, smooth texture to the sauce. Much love and thanks for the amazing recipes you share with us!

It's so perfect that you mentioned at the end that this dish improves with age. By day three, any leftovers will taste even better than they did on day one. I make an instant pot version of this dish that everyone loves! IT's a lot like yours, but I'm going to ramp up the ginger from just one meager tablespoon to your version with three, and a few other tweaks here and there.

We thoroughly enjoyed this quick Indian dish. I make it every month! Just as you said, it makes a good amount of leftovers. I bake the chicken, and add it after the onion. I am just more fond of baked chicken, but that’s the only change I make
